Paul Dear St. Cecilia Parish Community, This week is National Vocations Week. Several folks have asked about my background before my ordination and assignment to St. Cecilia s. So I wanted to write a few words letting you know a little more about me. I ve lived in the Houston area all my life. I was baptized at St. Benedict the Abbot Church and attended 1st through 8th grade at St. Vincent de Paul. After graduating St. Thomas High School, I received a BA in Mathematics at the University of St. Thomas, and a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston. I thought about the priesthood from time to time from a young age, but it seemed to remain just that a thought, though I had the feeling that there was something more out there. When I would think about abandoning the idea of priesthood altogether, the words of the prophet Jeremiah came to my mind: I say I will not mention him, I will no longer speak in his name. But then it is as if fire is burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones; I grow weary holding back, I cannot! (20:9). I submitted my application to the seminary, was accepted, and began my studies and formation for the priesthood in I was ordained deacon in 2017 and was assigned at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in Katy. I was ordained priest in 2018 and was assigned here to begin my priestly ministry. Answering the call has been a journey, filled with people, places, and events which pointed me towards the priesthood. God continues to call men and women to serve him in the Church. If you think you may have that vocation, I encourage you to contact the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese who can help you discern your calling. May God bless you always. Fr. 5 Youth Ministry News High School David Thies: There is NO Life Teen this Sunday, 4th! We are on retreat with the Confirmation students. Life Teen will be back next Sunday, 11th. Beach Retreat Registration (January 4th -6th) All Confirmed Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend the annual Beach Retreat in Surfside, TX. This weekend retreat will include lots of fun, great food, engaging talks, prayer time at the beach, mass, and Eucharistic adoration. Scholarships are available. Middle School Allison Reynolds: Edge meets Wednesday evenings 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm in the Auditorium. 7 St. Cecilia Life Long Faith Formation Theme Embracing Christ at Mass: What do you gain? 13 Saint Quotes that Reveal the Mystical Nature of the Mass The Mass is the greatest worship that Christians can offer to God! 1) When Mass is being celebrated, the sanctuary is filled with countless angels who adore the Divine Victim immolated on the altar.
