Unless and until we take these things seriously, our life here on earth will lack meaning and focus. Come to the October session of Symbolon to come face to face with topics we often avoid. You may attend either session: at St Paschal on October 8 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Eymard Room or at St Clare on October 11 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Harvest Room. There is no registration fee, so please just come and become part of this exciting adult faith formation program. This is the last session of Symbolon for this calendar year. If you have any questions or would like further information, call Rosalie Lewis at JUST THOUGHTS FROM THE SOCIAL ACTION COMMISSION Did you know there are approximately 800,000 young people who are facing the loss of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections, which include work authorization and protection from deportation. DACA youth and the larger DREAMer community need legislative protection from Congress to ensure that they are not deported from the only home they have ever known. The U.S. Catholic bishops have long supported DACA youth and continue to do so. The Saint Paschal Baylon Social Action Commission meets the 2 nd Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Kazel Room in the rectory. All are welcome. If you would like to receive our s, please spbsocialaction@gmail.com. Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 10h.

5 FROM FATHER LANE, SSS, OUR 8 TH PASTOR: 27 th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Today s reading might be very painful and hurtful to hear and experience again. I know in my family, several have experienced divorce due to abusive marriages, chemical imbalances, or things just do not go as one hopes. One does not purposely get married to then seek a divorce. At the root of the readings, I hear God speaking to us about the prospects of respect, commitment and care. Those items may change in a marriage in a sacramental union. It s important to recognize the development of a sacrament in one s life. As we spend some time reflecting on the essence of building a sacrament of matrimony, let us also recognize that love grows and changes with and without Christ there, and sometimes not building a married life together, but with changes in unimaginable ways. That s a totally different aspect of married life that I m sure, if we asked Christ today, would given a totally different answer to the question about marriage. May I also remind those who may wish to find healing and reconciliation due to a divorce of the process of an annulment? This process is free and I hope you would trust me to walk with you and support you in your reflection of your past sacramental marriage. Make an appointment to chat, and allow Christ s healing to help you with the process. Lastly, the United States Bishops have asked us each year, for about 35 years, to think about respect life issues in the month of October, but especially on the first Sunday in October. I do not know anyone who does not take life issues, from conception to natural death, seriously and has not prayed or worked for this concern in our country and culture. I will say, that this year it seems fitting to focus more on the word respect, since before we can work with others, we need to respect others and see that God is in the other person. Some of the hate rhetoric that one hears on the radio, social media or on the television lately lacks respect and dignity for others and different views. Perhaps you will join with me in praying for this aspect during Respect Life Month? Secondly, our pope has invited us in a very special way as Catholic Christians to pray and work to end the death penalty in the world. We pray for the dignity of all human life even for those who are behind bars. It is important for us to reflect on the dignity of every human person. May we pray for true and total respect for the sanctity of all human life, allowing every child to be born and every person to be called back to God, when God is ready to call that person home. October Fun: F We always have very special happenings in October, Respect Life month. May I remind you of the following? Join in the recitation of the Rosary, weekdays at 7:30 a.m. we recite one decade, at 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Saturday, we recite an entire rosary. Today is Respect Life Sunday with a special time of prayer and public witness at 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. on Wilson Mills Road. Let us pray for all life, from conception until a natural death! Today is our annual Pet Blessing, in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi, 1:30 p.m. by the flagpole and new sign. Park in the horseshoe lot on Wilson Mills Road and bring something to clean up Fido s business.

6 Another Public recitation of the rosary, Saturday, October 13, 12 Noon to remember the promises at Fatima! Park in the horseshoe lot on Wilson Mills Road. Trunk or Treat is October 28 at 3:00 p.m. Sign up to attend A (Green K)night to Remember, for Friday, November 2, 6:30 p.m. at La-Vera Party Center. ALL proceeds go to the operations of our award-winning school. Fundraising is a natural part of any Catholic school, helping to keep it strong and financially sound, maintaining a reasonable tuition. Let s continue to pray for each other and the joy of serving in our parish s life! In Christ our Eucharist, Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, Class of 1979 (40 th Reunion Saturday, May 18) PS Next week, Pope Francis will canonize some very special saints on Sunday, including Pope Paul VI and Archbishop Oscar Romero, from San Salvador, El Salvador. There will be a special bulletin cover for the event and special celebrations here in the diocese and also in Rome. We will have holy cards to commemorate the occasion. OUR WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT We are a stewardship parish: we recognize that as God s stewards, we cannot help but give thanks to God for our many blessings and gifts. We demonstrate this by sharing our time, talent and treasure to build up God s reign.
