4 YOUTH MINISTRY Everything is a reminder of the Cross. We ourselves are made in the shape of a cross. -St. John Vianney Happy Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week! May you walk closely with our Lord as we journey and remember what He did for each of us. Last weekend our parish hosted the first of many Fanning the Flame series where our teens in the Diocese of Cleveland come together for a quarterly Youth Rally. I am not sure if many of you are aware, but the young church in Cleveland is on FIRE for the LORD! In conjunction with the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) which our parish has participated in for years, we were part of the Cleveland Catholic Youth Conference (CCYC), which hopes to unite our young church together in prayer and fellowship. Last weekend our high school students participated in the Diocese of Cleveland Youth Rally: Prayer, Desire, and the Secrets of the Saints. We heard an amazing keynote by Fr. Patrick Schultz from Communion of Saints, breakout sessions on mediation from Fr. Mike McCandless, and your very own youth minister did a workshop of Devotional Prayer which focused on the Rosary and The Divine Mercy Chaplet. We look forward to attending the Youth Rally in the future. Please pray for us and know we are praying for you! Due to our Mission Trip and planning schedule, our Life in the Eucharist Mission Team will have their send off at the 7:00 p.m. Mass on Palm Sunday. There will not be a youth group meeting until April 30th. Schedule of Upcoming Events: Sunday, April 2nd - Meeting for JYG only! 5:30-6:45 p.m.! Good Friday - The Living Stations of the Cross ~ Noon The Living Stations of the Cross: Our Youth Group will be acting out the Living Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and again on Good Friday at Noon in the church. Join us for a simple meal of homemade minestrone soup and bread immediately following the Stations on Friday in the Eymard Room. Please join us in this special prayer. CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY These past two weeks have been very busy for our ministry. On Wednesday, The Knight Riders went out to serve a hot meal and provide clothing. On Thursday, another group went to St. Augustine to serve a hot meal. Then Saturday, the ministry went to St. Vitus and St. Michaels to serve another very good hot meal. Our ministry also served a wonderful hot meal to over 150 residents of Villa Serena who are living on Section 8, a HUD Project. These residents were so grateful. All of the volunteers, single people, married couples and religious along with our Youth Group had a fun time and it was a fantastic show of love from our ministry and parish. One of the board members from Villa Serena was so overwhelmed because he has been trying to create a sense of community and our ministry has done that. Thank you to all those who make the food preparations, sort the clothing, serve the food and help our ministry spread God s love to those in need. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL LEGACY GIFT As we remember Christ s sacrifice, we are moved to express our faith and love. Call the SPB Advancement Office at ext. 112 to learn how a planned gift to our Parish and/or School can help preserve our faith community s heritage.

5 FROM THE PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE The Passion of the LORD: We begin our solemn Holy Week celebrations again. The song by Marty Haugen, We remember how you loved us, until your death and we celebrate for you are with us here, summarizes well the reason why we gather day after day to take time to remember Christ s passion, suffering, death and resurrection. While the Triduum days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil are not obligations or mandatory for our presence, we are blessed to have so many people who are able to participate and be part of this annual celebration. Besides your own personal celebration and time in prayer this week, do know how welcome you are to attend and be part of our many celebrations here. From the Morning Prayer, to the evening services, these liturgies are packed with so much meaning. One of the goals of the Pastoral Plan was to remind you of how your spiritual life and God s intersect: through these liturgies we have prime examples for celebrating our life in Christ. Come for the great retreat week as we journey with and for Christ. Tuesday Night at the Cathedral: We always have a great representation at the annual Chrism Mass downtown at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist. George Peko, our catechetical leader, reserves a pew for our oil presenters and our group has a mini tour. Please see us both of after the service for a chance to experience the tour and see the martyr, Saint Christine. It will also be our first time as a diocese that we celebrate with our diocesan administrator, Bishop Daniel Thomas from Toledo. Earlier in the day, most of the priests of the diocese will gather for a brief retreat. We appreciate your prayers as we contemplate our ministry and service. Wednesday s Anniversary of Bro Gene: Bro. Eugene Blee will be celebrating 60 years of religious profession Wednesday, April 12. We will have a special Mass with him at 11:00 a.m. (and no 11:30 a.m. Shrine or 12:15 p.m. Chapel Mass). Before living at RHC, Bro. Gene lived with us here at was helping in Saint Ann Shrine. If you would like to wish him a joyful, prayerful anniversary, please drop him a card at: Regina Health Center, 5232 Broadview Road, Richfield OH Pastoral Plan Review: We are in Year 3 of our Pastoral Plan. A LOT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED! One of the charges of the plan was to develop a Family Focus Committee to better engage our families in the life of the parish, assist their spiritual growth and renewal, support families with opportunities and more. Here is my first plea to illicit newer parishioners to be part of a committee to do such work and tasks. I am also inviting the Strategic Plan members who came up with this idea to help spearhead this project and get this new committee going and so fulfill their dream. Please send me an or give me a call if you would like to be part of this. On another note, we are blessed in our parish to have several groups who work tirelessly for different aspects of family life: PSR, the day school, the MOMS Group, PTO, Ladies Guild and the Athletic Association. Thank you for your ceaseless commitment to SPB!

6 Regular Reminders: We have hearing aid devices available for use during the Mass. Please see the musicians at the piano to pick up a device before and after Mass like a lending library. We now have low-gluten hosts available for Mass for those who need them and would like to receive the Body and Blood of Christ both species during a Mass. We know many are not able to tolerate any form of gluten; but these are available if you wish to try them: Please come to the sacristy before the final bell for Mass (5 minutes before) to let the priest or sacristan know of your need for a low-gluten host. Need Help With Our Picture Directory: During May 23 June 18, we invite all parishioners to have their picture taken for our new, updated parish directory. Pictures will be taken in the parish offices, with parking convenient from Wilson Mills Horseshoe lot. The receptionist at the front desk and photographers need assistance in checking in people who will be in the Sr. Dorothy Kazel Meeting Room. Please contact Kathy Pohlhammer in the Communication Office, extension 109, for more info and details. Time for Another Chat? Depending on the weather, we might have a Fireside Chat in the SSS Lounge (by the fireplace) or on the parish deck outside of my office, where we answer your questions about the parish s life, church doctrine or issues or anything else you wish to talk about with me. These annual gatherings are wonderful chances for us to get to know one another and we usually also have someone from the Pastoral Council also present to be with us. Plan on Monday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. for this special time of questions and answers! Have a blessed Holy Week and I sure look forward to celebrating with you this week. I appreciate the sacrifices you make to be present at these events before you go to your family time or vacations. I know how important your parish family is and that is why it compels you to be present for the many events, from the Agape Meal to the Easter Food Blessing and everything in between. Let us continue to pray for each other! In Christ our Eucharist, Reverend John Thomas J. Lane, SSS, 79 Pastor PSR AND OTHER NEWS FROM THE PEKO S PSR Registration: Registration for the PSR school year will kick off on Monday, April 10 th. WHAT IS BEREAVEMENT? Someone you love very dearly has died and the pain, sadness and confusion seem too great for any words to mean anything. Even life itself can seem hollow and meaningless and yet, everything becomes new again. The one who suffers this loss is the mourner who must travel through the phases of grief. Working through grief is hard work, accomplished over a period of time and made easier when shared with others. The St. Paschal/St Clare Bereavement Support Group can help.

A pastoral council possesses a consultative vote. This council assists the pastor in fostering pastoral activity. The vision developed by the Second Vatican Council is that the pastoral councils exist to do pastoral planning and do so in an advisory and consultative way. Our parish pastoral council has been extremely helpful in identifying needs and steps to implement goals and objectives; in the past few years we have worked on collaboration with different ministry groups, Leadership Day, the Ministry Fair and now, most importantly, the Strategic Plan, which is now in its 3 rd years as our Pastoral Plan. Also in Canon Law 537: In each parish there is to be a finance council that is governed, in addition to universal law, by norms issued by the diocesan bishop and in which the Christian faithful, are to assist the pastor in the administration of the goods of the parish. This too, is a collaborative structure necessary for administration of the parish and its pastoral activity. Our Finance Council reviews the parish financial activity, budget, Endowment Fund and all the other temporal concerns of our parish life. They monitor all of our accounts and assist in allocating funds for certain projects, especially in the area of maintenance and physical care of the campus. There are two distinctive roles for this council in developing parish life.
