No one is ever poorer for giving to our God, who is so rich in love, mercy and goodness. GIVE BETTER THAN YOU RECEIVE Jesus words in today s Gospel con nue to contrast the Jewish law and prac ce with the prac- ce of the followers of Jesus. Today s Gospel con nues with slight varia ons the formula on: You have heard... and What I say to you is.. The old laws of retalia on were once created to so en the severe and vengeful retalia ons common among the peoples that surrounded the struggling people of God. The would-be followers of Jesus again feel surrounded by people bent on retalia on. So Ma hew presents Jesus, who asks his followers not only not to retaliate at all but to turn the other cheek. He asks that his listeners give the one who asks more than he or she seeks. Jesus asks us to love and pray for those of our home country and the alien, the ones who love us and the ones who hate us. 4 Page Four February 23, th of 40 FANTASTIC FACTS ABOUT ST. LADISLAS Each Sta on of the Cross is marked with a candle sconce and illuminated with a spot light. During our dedica on as well as at significant liturgies and anniversaries of our parish, these candles my be lit. Music Notes Something to Sing About! To par cipate ac vely in the liturgy requires understanding what it means to be part of the priesthood of the faithful, offering the sacrifice of the Eucharist along with the ordained priest who celebrates the Eucharist. This is accomplished by spiritually joining our prayers with his. We make the Eucharis c Prayer our own prayer by joining in the offering, the memorial, the thanksgiving, indeed in the whole Eucharis c ac on. Pastoral Musicians Liturgical Choir has rehearsal and Mardi Gras at Houlihans on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:00. I extend my gra tude for leading the singing at the 5:00 Mass of Sat. Feb. 22. The Funeral Choir has rehearsal without a lunch on Monday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 Our Junior Choir is rising up because of the ini a ve of Madeline Mogyordy who is full of energy and enthusiasm, with a passion for star ng a new choir. She created the flyers, is invi ng kids, and doing everything she can to building up this choir. We were able to sing at Mass this weekend.all boys and girls from the 4 th grade on up are welcome. Our next rehearsal is not this Tuesday, but next Tuesday, March 4 at 6:00 in the Church. Come and be part of something new and exci ng. Send Out the Invitation! Many inactive Catholics share that they have returned to the practice of their Catholic faith because someone invited them to return. Here are two wonderful, soon-to-takeplace activities that you might consider inviting an inactive family member, friend, work colleague or neighbor to attend with you. On Sunday, March 2, the WAY group, will be sponsoring a delicious pancake breakfast in Cullen Hall. How about inviting someone to Mass and to breakfast? On Fridays, March 14, March 28, & April 11, our famous, tasty, St. Lad s fish fries will be taking place in Cullen Hall. Jesus often shared in meals with those around him. Why not invite someone to share this meal with you? Then perhaps you could continue the conversation at a nearby coffee shop or together attend Stations of the Cross in the church at 7:00pm. Reach out. Invite. Perhaps this could be a first step for someone to return to the active practice of their Catholic faith. Evangelization is not solely the responsibility of a committee. Rather, it is the responsibility of every baptized Catholic. The Holy Spirit will guide you..
