3 August 12, 2018 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Good and holy people of Saint Christopher, A career opportunity and call, has presented itself that I just could not pass up so, my magnificent run at Saint Christopher is coming to an end. My family and I have been members of Saint Christopher for over 25 years. My three daughters were baptized, and received first Holy Communion and were Confirmed in this beautiful church. Many of you have watched them grow into the women they are today and all of you have made quite a home for my wife June and I. Thank you. As a parishioner and a member of clergy, I have been blessed with the guidance of our Pastor, Fr. Hynes. He may be the hardest working pastor in the Diocese, but he s also the most consoling, the most prudent and the most openhearted pastor around. He has always had my back and helped me to consider and discern to become the Deacon I am today. I am eternally grateful to Fr. for all of his support and for the prayers of the parish. I will be moving to the greater Denver area to go to work for The Catholic Foundation of Northern Colorado by the end of August. The process to move completely to Colorado will take some time and we are in no rush. So, there is a good chance we may run into each other somewhere in town from time to time. This move to Colorado is part of my journey. Many years ago, when I was baptized, by water and the Holy Spirit, I received the gift of new life and the call from God, who is Love. (Just as you were). My journey has taken me down life-filled paths I would have never imagined and, it s by surrendering to and sharing His love along the way that makes it so Joyful. Being part of this parish has been a big part of that Joy. I d like to share a reflection from Fr. Thomas Merton. It s a short overview of his thoughts on achieving Happiness and Love. Happiness that is sought for ourselves alone can never be found: for happiness becomes diminished when not shared. There is momentary happiness in selfsatisfaction, but it always leads to disappointment. True happiness is found in unselfish love, a love, which increases in proportion as it is shared. There is no end to the sharing of Love and therefore, the potential happiness of such love is without limit. So Love can only be kept by being given away. And it can only be given perfectly when it is also received openly. So when we love, and I mean truly love, in virtue, goodness and truth, we are sharing in the love of the one who loved us first. Being part of this faith filled religious community of Saint Christopher, I ve witnessed and experienced, and have been surrounded by this perfect Love. I thank you all for that and more! Thank you again for your continued support. Prayer to Avert Hurricanes The Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, Bishop of Palm Beach, is asking all parishes and schools in the diocese to join him in a united prayer effort in thanksgiving for helping us through the past hurricane season, and for our protection from devastating storms in the 2018 Hurricane Season. Below is a Prayer to Avert Storms that you and your families can use throughout the hurricane season. Thank you for your support of our prayer effort to ask God to keep us safe from hurricanes in this upcoming season. God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. Updating Parish Census Records We are updating our parish census records this summer and require your assistance to update addresses - phone numbers - addresses - family members - family and member information. Holy Day of Obligation, August 15, 2018 Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Vigil Tuesday, August 14 3:30pm Holy Day Wednesday, August 15 9:00am and 6:00pm Application Window Now Open for Permanent Diaconate Starting July 1, applications for the Formation Program for the Permanent Diaconate will be accepted. Men interested in applying are asked to speak to their pastor for permission to apply and should download the application from the diocesan website at Pastor permission is required, no exceptions. Seminary classes will begin Fall To be considered, applicants must submit their application by the deadline of December 31, Applications received after Dec. 31st will not be accepted.
