Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God? We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being God s work. But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is God s work? TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD Thursday, August 6 O God, whom no eye has ever seen, you have revealed your glory in the transfigured face of your Son. Through his voice, you have spoken your word to us. Give light to our eyes; make us attentive to the Gospel, for in baptism we have become his brothers and sisters and your children. Hear us through this same beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

3 Holy Spirit Catholic Church August 2, 2009 Page 3 SUNDAY, JULY 19TH, our parish officially welcomed Father Kevin Nelson, our new Parish Administrator. Father Antony introduced him at all the Masses. We get to know Father Kevin s sense of humor through his stories of Uncle Bill and the New Pastor. Our sincere appreciation to the members of the Holy Spirit Council of Catholic Women for hosting the Coffee and Donuts. Thanks to Mary Ellen Sciullo for preparing the welcome banner. Let us pray for Father Kevin, Father Anthony and our parish for another milestone. The First Friday of each month was designated by our Savior Himself as a day to be consecrated in honoring His Sacred Heart. The object of this devotion is to make our Savior Jesus Christ ardently and perfectly loved, and to make reparation for the outrages offered to Him in the past, as well as for those which He daily receives in the Blessed Eucharist. Attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is assuredly the best means of honoring and loving the adorable Heart of Jesus. Every First Friday besides the regular weekday Masses we have an additional devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mass at 7.30 PM. Youth of our parish lead the devotion and the singing. Make efforts to be part of this monthly devotion as a family.

These workshops provided valuable information that will be used by all. We would like to make available a particular website for those who were not able to attend. All volunteers in the Faith Formation Program are requested to attend our opening meeting prior to the start of the yearly sessions with our children. This meeting will be held in the Faith Formation Office. The topic of discussion will pertain to what worked last year, what didn t work, and what we can do to support each other more in the coming year. Fr. Kevin Nelson, will be on hand to meet you and give you his support in this important ministry. WHO WILL GUIDE OUR CHILDREN IN THEIR FAITH JOURNEY? Have you been praying for guidance from God? Are you still searching for a way to share your faith with others? Pray and think about volunteering for our Religious Formation Program. Volunteers are always needed not only as Catechists but as Hospitality persons who welcome the children and their families to each session. Help us keep this a safe learning environment by patrolling our parking lot as children and their parents come and go. Our Catechists could also use assistance in their sessions and sometimes a back-up Catechist is needed when they are sick or unable to attend. Our experienced Catechists will help train you to be able to have your own group of children to guide. Don t wait for the last minute! Call Carmen West now and ask how you can help be a shining example to our Parish Youth! What do I need to become a Catechist/Volunteer? A love of the Lord and a willingness to share this love with others. You have to be a registered member of the Parish and attend Mass regularly. You should have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation and if married, married in the Church. Be willing to teach and live the Laws and teachings of the Church set-down by the Magesterium. An FBI background check has to be done by being fingerprinted through Priderock Holdings for the Diocese of Palm Beach. You will need to attend a Protecting God s Children workshop held throughout the Diocese at the Pastoral Center or at one of several Parishes in the Diocese. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us in the coming seasons. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only refuge. GREGORY ULSETH I Last Sunday at the 10:30 AM Liturgy, Father Kevin presented to Greg Ulseth II a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding Service (9 years) in the Ministry of Altar Servers. Greg is also an active member of our Spiriteens. Thank you for your time and being a role model to the youth of our parish. We wish you the best for the coming college years. God bless. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In 1794, a young Irishwoman befriended two widows aboard ship while emigrating to America. They bought a house in Philadelphia and began to live a community life under the direction of a priest. Soon they relocated to Washington. There, the pious ladies, as the neighbors called them, were asked by their priest friend, by then the president of Georgetown University, to begin a religious community. In 1799 they established a branch of the Visitation Order founded by Saint Jane de Chantal and Saint Francis de Sales in the 1620s. The unique vision of this order followed a sensible routine, less arduous and more flexible than most traditions, and also accepted widows and older women. Amazingly, this American outpost of the Visitation began without reference to the rule of the Order. Most of the European convents had been lost under the reign of terror, and the rules and customs of the community could not be obtained. A copy of the rule was discovered in 1812, and in 1816 the pope officially established the monastery. By then, some French nuns had regrouped, and they sent a habit and cross to be copied. (No religious wore the habit in public in the United States until after the Civil War.) From the beginning, the Georgetown nuns had an educational mission, even though they discovered in the rule that such work was officially off-limits for the contemplative life. In America, the nuns depended on a school for their livelihood, so the rule was adapted. Today, the Academy of the Visitation is a thriving example of excellence in Catholic education, and the adjacent monastery is the oldest monastic foundation in the original thirteen United States.
