We extend a warm welcome to those visiting or worshipping with us for the first time today. Sunday Services 9:00am Eucharist A service of Holy Communion, which is usually sung with hymns and a sermon. On the 4 th Sunday of the month the service is said. Children s Church meets in the meeting room at 9 am on the 1 st, 3 rd and 5 th Sundays of the month and at 5 pm on the 4 th Sunday. 2 From the Rector Alleluia! Christ is risen. It s great to be able to welcome you to Church of the Resurrection today and to share the good news of the risen Christ. Easter Sunday is more than a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. It is also an invitation to each of us, to take our place in the long line of witnesses to encounters with him and his risen Life. Perhaps this is why we are so awed at the mystery: not just that Jesus was raised from the dead, but that God entrusts us with continuing Jesus saving mission and with being witnesses to God s mighty deed of resurrection. It would seem that God trusts us a great deal. This trust is like the baptismal waters washing us anew, strengthening us to proclaim the unbelievable that the tomb is empty; the crucified Jesus is raised from the dead. Our encounters with the risen Jesus nudge us from unbelief to belief. Our witnessing to his saving acts move us out from our comfort zones to lives radiating with the joy of the risen Christ s dwelling within and among us. We witness to Jesus resurrection when we faithfully live our baptismal promises, which proclaim our belief that Jesus is alive and shares his risen Life with us. Believing is radiating the joy of our encounters with Christ, bringing others to encounter him, and continuing Jesus saving work. Believing is encountering emptiness in others and bringing them joy and hope. Believing is helping others move the large stones that block their growth and happiness. Believing is running to help those in need. Believing is turning our Easter Alleluias into good works that spread joy and hope and faith. Happy Easter Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! Fr. Nick 2

4 Holy Communion The Anglican Church of Australia offers the hospitality of the altar to all baptized Christians. Please come forward to receive from the Celebrant and then move to receive from one of the chalices. If you cannot come to the priest, please let one of the sides- people know and the sacrament will be brought to you. 5 News A big thank you. to everybody who has supported our services throughout Holy Week and to all those who have cleaned, decorated, welcomed, read, led our prayers and music, and assisted in any way at our services this week. It s been a marvellous team effort and very much appreciated. A special thank you to Fr. Rowan Strong and the Reverend Eileen Warby for covering so much at short notice in the run up to Easter. Opportunities for young singers We currently have vacancies for young singers aged 8-18 in our junior and senior choirs. The Mapstone Scholars are an integral part of our Sunday worship leading our music and also giving several concerts throughout the year. Lenten loose change Thank you to everybody who has donated to this years Lenten loose change appeal. So far, we have raised $ Anzac Our service at 5 p.m. on Sunday 22 nd April will include an Act of Remembrance for Anzac. All are welcome. 5

7 Readings A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well- matured wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well- matured wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death for ever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Hear the Word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. Isaiah 25:6-9 Psalm 118 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures for ever. Let Israel now proclaim, His mercy endures for ever. The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. 7

8 Joyful shouts of salvation sound from the tents of the righteous: The right hand of the Lord does mighty deeds; the right hand of the Lord raises up; the right hand of the Lord does mighty deeds. I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord. The Lord has punished me sorely, but he has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me and have become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:1-2,

9 A Reading from the Book of Acts Then Peter began to speak to them: I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. Acts 10:34-43 Hear the Word of the Lord: Thanks be to God. The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already 9

10 been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you. So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Mark 16:1-8 The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ. 10 ELECTORAL ROLL In accordance with the Parish Governance Statute 2016, in each general election year for lay members of Synod and alternates, all enrolments on the electoral roll must be renewed between 1 March and the date which is one month prior to the relevant annual meeting. Church Council will be setting the date for the annual meeting at its April meeting, which is likely to be June, in order to allow sufficient time for the audit to be completed is a general election year for Synod, therefore everybody who wishes to vote at the Annual Congregational Meeting MUST complete and sign a new Schedule 1 Form. If you do not do so, you will not be able to vote. Schedule 1 forms may be obtained from the table in the Narthex. Please return completed forms to the Church Office as soon as possible.
