How wonderful it would be to have 80% of parish families making a commitment to pray for us or to make a financial commitment so that our needs will be met. Pope Francis Vacation Bible School will be July Mark your calendars! RCIA: Last week during the 10am and noon Masses the first rite for RCIA was being celebrated. It is known as the Rite of Acceptance and the Rite of Welcome. The period of inquiry is the first phase on the journey of faith. It is a time of getting acquainted and feeling comfortable in the company of other seekers and Catholics. After a period of inquiry the person may seek acceptance into the Order of Catechumens, through the Rite of Acceptance. During this Rite, the inquirer stands amidst the parish community and states that he or she wants to become a baptized member of the Catholic Church. The parish assembly affirms this desire and the inquirer becomes a "catechumen." At this same rite those already baptized Christian are seeking full Communion of the Catholic Church. They too have completed the period of inquiry and through the rite are committing to deeper instruction leading to the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. They will become candidates. Please keep the following in your daily prayers: We are back in Ordinary Time! But it doesn t have to be ordinary. We celebrate the beginning of Jesus ministry! Sacrament of Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the first Sunday of the Month directly following the 10 am Mass. One baptismal preparation class is required. The preparation class seeks to help parents understand the Rite of Baptism and to prepare and support parents in the on-going faith formation of their child. Please call the parish office to schedule an appointment for the baptism class.

6 CHURCH CANDLES! A huge thank you to Dottie Stai and Linda Bukovi for their years of service to the parish in caring for the candles. Their ministry to the church is most appreciated by all. A friendly reminder asking all not to add candles to the votive glass as this can break the glass and cause a fire hazard. Our volunteers clean the glass then add new candles on a regular basis. If for some reason you find there are no new candles please let the office know. Liturgy Corner -compiled by Pat Raschio (sources At Home With The Word, Scott Hahn and Loyola Press, Sourcebook) Today we begin the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. Is the term Ordinary because these days are commonplace in some way? No. We term them ordinary because they are numbered within the liturgical calendar. In fact, there s nothing ordinary about Ordinary Time! In these weeks, we hear proclaimed the wondrous stories of our salvation, stories that we need to burn into our hearts if we are truly to know Jesus, love him, and share him with the world. In these weeks, we have the opportunity to listen to Jesus and learn exactly what it is that we are called to do as his disciples. We begin this year with John telling us that Jesus and his disciples were invited to this wedding at Cana, as was Jesus' mother, Mary. In the Church's liturgical history, the wedding feast of Cana is closely associated with the baptism of the Lord and the adoration of the infant Jesus by the Wise Men. In this context, the sign Jesus performs at the wedding feast is celebrated as an epiphany or a manifestation of Jesus' divinity. Think of these first weeks after Christmas as a season of "epiphanies." The Liturgy is showing us Who Jesus is and what He has revealed about our relationship with God. Last week in the Liturgy we went to a Baptism. This week we're at a wedding. We're being shown another dimension of our relationship with God. If we're sons and daughters of God, it's because we've married into the family. Throughout the Bible, marriage is the symbol of the covenant relationship God desires with His chosen people. He is the Groom, humanity His beloved and sought-after bride. That's why in today's Gospel, Jesus performs His first public "sign" at a wedding feast. Jesus is the divine Bridegroom, calling us to His royal wedding feast. By His New Covenant, He will become "one flesh" with all humanity in the Church. By our Baptism, each of us has been betrothed to Christ as a bride to a Husband. The new wine that Jesus pours out at today's feast is the gift of the Holy Spirit given to His bride and body. Seasons of Hope A Support Group for the Bereaved Seasons of Hope meets for six consecutive weeks. Any parishioner who is mourning the loss of a loved one is encouraged to attend and invited to bring a guest.
