8 8 Crusader Chronicles January 15, 2017 OPEN HOUSE AT OUR LADY OF PEACE SCHOOL Catholic Schools Week will kick off at OLP with an Open House on Sunday, January 29 th (9:00 AM 2:00 PM). This is a great opportunity for our school to showcase the wonderful things that our students and teachers do on a regular basis. Plus, it gives us an opportunity to showcase our wonderful school. STAFF IN THE SPOTLIGHT Ellen Pakel I have been a member of the Our Lady of Peace parish for 34 years. My husband & I are very proud of our two daughters that are graduates of Our Lady of Peace Catholic School. They received an excellent education at OLP! My husband & I enjoy visiting the girls in Colorado! We are looking forward to the wedding of our daughter, Heather, this summer in Evergreen CO. I have been a full time teacher at Our Lady of Peace Catholic School for 19 years. My previous work history includes: * 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math teacher in the Berwyn school district *worked 10 years for Eastern Airlines * Substitute teacher in the surrounding school districts before coming to OLP Teaching math at the intermediate level to OLP students has been a very rewarding and most enjoyable experience! I have been blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school family for 19 years now! 2017 GALA and AUCTION The 2017 Gala and Auction will take place on March 3 rd. On December 12, 2016 Our Lady of Peace, YOUNGER THAN EVER SENIORS CLUB, held it Christmas Party/Luncheon at Alpine Banquets in Darien. President Tom Peknik Hosted the event which was arranged by Charlotte and Jim Napoleon. Father Walter said GRACE BEFORE DINNER. 90 members and guests enjoyed appetizers, soup and salad and family style dinner with, kolache and Christmas cookies prepared by our members. Entertainment followed with music and dancing! Our next meeting will be in March of 2017 at the Darien Sportsplex. Watch our Sunday Bulletin for the date. It is always the third Monday of the Month. 13 13 Divorce and Marriages outside of the Catholic Church If you are divorced, or if you are married outside of the Catholic Church, or if you are interested in learning about the different forms and processes of annulments, please attend Deacon Larry s presentation on at 7:30 PM in the Church Hall. Please invite anyone you know who may be interested in this topic. All are welcome. In addition, Deacon Larry will also talk about a portion of Pope Francis Exhortation on the Joy of Love, which is the result of the two recent Bishops synods on marriage in the Catholic Church. The Joy of Love stresses the mercy of God and His presence in all circumstances. Parishes have the responsibility of preparing their parishioners to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony. Depending upon the specific circumstances of the bride and/or groom (particularly in the case of different religious or faith beliefs and if the wedding is to take place at a non-catholic church) special instructions, permissions, and dispensations will be needed. Consequently, marriage preparation should begin at least 9 months prior to your wedding. If your plans include marrying at Our Lady of Peace and you have a wedding date in mind, call the Rectory, Ext. 20 and leave a message for Deacon Larry. He will contact you and enter your date in the marriage book. One year prior to your desired date is not too soon to call. Attend Natural Family Planning Classes Couples Married Five Years or Less All couples married from 2012 are warmly invited to this event, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Cathedral of St Raymond on Saturday, February 28, Couples will receive down to earth practical ideas for making happiness a habit in their marriages, and will be invited to consider how to find support for the kind of marriage they want to have. The event will end with pizza and beer/soda. The session will be led by Dr. Jim Healy, director of the diocesan Office of Family Ministry and a well-known speaker and writer on marriage.
