While we do utilize Harvesters for the majority of our food supplies, we also depend on the generosity of parishioners. Current Needs in the Pantry: Tuna, canned corn, laundry detergent, deodorant, tooth brushes, tooth paste. SAVE YOUR STUFF! Coming this fall, the Green Team, in partnership with the Holy Name Society, will bring back a newly imagined version of the former Attic to Basement Sale. Details will be provided at a later date. Please keep this in mind if you are attending to home clean -out projects in the coming months. School Supplies Collection As in past years, we are collecting school supplies for our families in need. We have collection crates in the back of church and at the north entrance. Items needed for students in the coming year includes: 3- ring binders, scissors, erasers, folders, tissues, sharpees, erasers, composition notebooks, pens, flash drives, scientific calculators, and protractors.

3 RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) The RCIA process is for anyone who is curious or wants to know exactly what it means to be Catholic. There is no pressure and no commitment to become Catholic, if you go through this process. This is just an opportunity to learn and listen to where God might be calling you at this point in your faith journey. If you think you might be interested, please call Deacon Tyrone in the parish office for additional information. Sr. Linda will contact you when she returns to the office in mid-august. The RCIA process begins September 5th. This weekend, we will have an Open House of our Food Pantry after all masses. If you have not seen the updates that were done in the pantry, during the past year, we invite you to come and take a look. New shelving, improved lighting and painting have done wonders to make our pantry more inviting for staff and clients alike. What Catholics Believe Thursday nights Parish Hall 6:30pm to 7:45pm (3 rd Thursday is Bunko each month so we do not meet) August 29 th will be the opening night pot-luck. Counseling/Spiritual Direction One s relationship with God oftentimes reflects one s relationships with others. If you would like to improve any relationship, you may want to consider counseling or Spiritual Direction. Fr. Garry Richmeier, CPPS, is a Licensed Professional Marriage and Family Therapist, providing counseling, as well as spiritual direction. Fr. Thank you for your consideration. Horse Races and Taco Dinner The Holy Name Society s annual Horse Races and Taco dinner will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 5:00 pm. Tacos, with sides of rice and fideo (a tomato-based soup with noodles) is $6.00 (all you can eat). Soda pop, beer and desserts will be available for purchase. This retreat is for young adults who are looking to take a step in their faith and begin to understand the joy and power that comes from living a victorious Christian life through openness to the Holy Spirit. Saint Paul s Outreach is a Catholic ministry that recruits, trains, and financially supports young men and women to become missionaries in the Kansas City area to our local young adults and college students. Thoughts From Guardian Angels Thanks to the ARS This Weekend after the 11 AM mass, the Altar and Rosary Society will be hosting a Brunch for all the women of the parish. This is a great opportunity to come, eat and enjoy fellowship in the parish hall (located in the church basement); it s also a great time to meet parishioners who attend a different mass than the one you usually attend. The Altar & Rosary Society or ARS for short, does some amazing things around the parish that often go unnoticed. They promote activities and events that are pertinent to women and the whole family as well. These include but are not limited to, women s retreats, movies, and care for articles around the altar like candles, linens, vestments, communion hosts and much more. These ladies are always very supportive of the church but also have a social aspect when they get together for fellowship and fun. Since my appointment here at Guardian Angels, I have always found them to be very supportive and concerned with the environment in the church and mass services. They work tirelessly with very little recognition. This brunch they are sponsoring for all the women of the parish is a wonderful example of their selfless ways and concern for others. I have been involved with several parishes, and any of them would be jealous of the dedicated people we have here with all they do. If your schedule allows, please come join them for an enjoyable meal, reconnect with old friends and make some new ones as well. Fr. 5 Procedures, Sacraments and Information for Guardian Angels Parish Baptism Contact the parish office after your baby is born, in order to schedule the baptismal class and the date of the baptism. Confirmation, Eucharist & Reconciliation Preparation for this sacrament is offered yearly. Contact the parish office for more information. Newcomers Registration Forms are located in the literature holders in the back and at the north entrance to the church. When completed, these can be returned to the parish office or placed in the collection baskets at Mass. Welcome! Mass Intentions Please call the office during business hours. Funeral Contact the parish office at the time of the death. Marriage Please contact Deacon Tyrone preferably nine months before your proposed marriage date. Note that it is wise not to make other arrangements until you know your wedding date is available here at our church. Guardian Angels does have a wedding planner for an additional cost, please let us know if you are interested in this service. Penance Saturday afternoon between 3:15 and 3:45 pm and by appointment at the parish office. Religious Education Sessions for children and families are held monthly. Contact Sr. Linda in the parish office for more information. Interested in Becoming Catholic? This process is called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Call Sr. Linda Barringer at the parish office for information on this process. Sick or Hospitalized Contact the parish office when your loved one is sick or admitted to the hospital. Parish Hall Rental Parishioners who have been registered for one year or more, should contact the parish office for rental information. Sexual Abuse The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph is committed to combatting sexual abuse in the church. 6 Hot Cars Dangerous for Children and Pets Already this year, 25 children have died in hot cars in the United States. This year is on track to be one of the worst years in history for hot car deaths. Recent legislation in Kansas and in Missouri provides immunity for citizens from civil liability who intervene to rescue a person or animal from a hot car. The laws are intended to encourage bystanders to act to rescue a child or animal in distress. You can help prevent a disaster. If you see a child or pet in a hot car, and you don t want to break a window to rescue them, contact the police immediately and let them know of the emergency.
