The Sacrament of Baptism is usually celebrated the third Sunday of each month, except during Lent (when we will not celebrate the sacrament until Easter). All Baptisms are scheduled in person at the Rectory. Baptism Preparation If you are expectant parents, please arrange to attend our Baptismal Instruction Program before the birth of your child. Baptismal Instruction and Baptisms must be scheduled in person, at the Rectory. There is a processing fee of $25. Our next Baptism will be this Sunday, December 18 at 2 p.m. The next Baptismal Instruction is scheduled for Sunday, January 8 at 2 p.m. Parish Penance Service Our Parish Penance Service, in anticipation of Christmas is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20 at 7:30 p.m. Although we hear confessions in the morning after the 8 a.m. mass, we strongly suggest that you take advantage of this opportunity to receive the sacrament. The collection for December 11 was $5,799. Ultimately, it is the Lord who receives your gift with heartfelt appreciation. 3 Religious Education The OLMC Education Department has introduced Children s Liturgy. All children are welcome and strongly encouraged as Catholics to attend. Used Cell Phones Good Shepherd collects used cell phones, so if you upgrade yours, please don't discard the old one. You can drop off old cell phones at the OLMC Rectory. Please do not leave phones in church. With Gratitude I d like to thank Kayumanggi Chorale for coming to our church to perform a special concert on Saturday, December 3. They lifted our spirits as we all prepare for the great season of Christmas, and the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The concert was enjoyed by all! May the great peace of Christmas descend upon you all. All proceeds from the concert were generously donated to our parish. Thank you all once again. Dogs have been known to tear their toys apart and swallowing the pieces, which can then become lodged in the esophagus, stomach or intestines. SAiNtS FuN FaCTs St. Dominic of Silos ( ) Feast Day: December 20 St. Dominic of Silos was a Spanish saint, to whom the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos is dedicated. St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers, was named after a Benedictine abbot, who lived a century before him. According to Dominican tradition, St. Dominic of Silos appeared to Blessed Joan of Aza (the mother of the later St. Dominic/Founder of the Dominicans), who made a pilgrimage to his shrine before the birth of her son, and named him after the abbot of Silos. Make a Gift through an IRA Charitable Rollover The IRA Charitable Rollover has been extended through This extension allows individuals 70½ or older to make a direct distribution from their IRA to a qualified charity such as OLMC, the Archbishop s Annual Appeal, the Archdiocese of Newark, or another Archdiocesan institution. This will not increase your gross income and no charitable deduction is needed to obtain the tax benefit. By using a standard deduction, you will receive a tax break from making a charitable deduction. The bus will leave the Church parking lot at 9 a.m. and will return by 7 p.m. The fare is $25 with a $30 FREE SLOT PLAY! Call Stella at (973) to reserve your seat. CHRISTMAS WAFERS Traditional Polish Christmas wafers (Oplatki) are available and may be purchased at the Rectory or from the ushers when you attend Mass. The Opłatki wafers are embossed with Christmas related religious images, varying from the nativity scene, especially Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, to the Star of Bethlehem. They are $4 and include instructions regarding their use. Get Involved Adult Handicraft The group is taking a much needed break, and will resume meetings after the New Year. YANA (You Are Not Alone) Our Parish Bereavement Support Group will meet on Wednesday, January 11 from 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Our Support Group is open to anyone (parishioner or non-parishioner) who has suffered the loss of a friend, relative or a loved one. There is no charge and reservations are not required.
