Baptisms We request parents attend a Baptism Instruction Session before the birth of their child. The Sacrament of Baptism is usually celebrated the third Sunday of each month, except during Lent (when we will not celebrate the sacrament until Easter). All Baptisms are scheduled in person at the Rectory. Parish Membership All are welcome to join our Parish Family. Parish policy requires registration to participate in Baptism, Marriage and Religion Classes. Please notify the office when a change of address or move occurs. Baptism Preparation If you are expectant parents, please arrange to attend our Baptismal Instruction Program before the birth of your child. Baptismal Instruction and Baptisms must be scheduled in person, at the Rectory. There is a processing fee of $25. The next Baptism is on Sunday, July 15 at 2 The next Baptismal Instruction is scheduled for Sunday, September 9 at 2 OLMC Summer Schedule During the months of July and August, the Rectory will be closed on Fridays. 3 Religious Education CCD Registration Registration has begun, and will continue through the summer months. Please make every effort to register your child/children at this time. If you are unable to register your child/children at this time, please call Sr. Mary Rose. Registration forms are also available on our website. A complete schedule of classes, children s masses and meetings will be mailed out to you before the end of the summer. YANA (You Are Not Alone) Our Parish Bereavement Support Group will meet on Wednesday, July 11 from 7:30-9 in the Parish Hall. Our Support Group is open to anyone (parishioner or nonparishioner) who has suffered the loss of a friend, relative or a loved one. There is no charge and reservations are not required. All you need is an open mind and an open heart. Let us try to help you through this time of grief. Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel The Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is Monday, July 16. The Feast Mass will be Sunday, July 15 at 12:15 followed by a procession with music by the Red Mike Festival Band. Join us for the celebration! Monthly 50/50 Tickets On Sale Now! Buy your tickets after all weekend masses or stop by the Rectory during business hours. We re also looking for volunteers to sell. Take some to sell to family, friends, and co-workers. New Energies Holy Family The Holy Family Youth Group will be hosting a Bible Study in the Holy Family rectory basement every Monday evening at 7 The Bible Study is open to all teenagers. If you have a personal bible, please bring it with you otherwise, we will gladly provide one. Day of Prayer and Reflection for Women The Religious Teachers Filippini are hosting a day of prayer and reflection entitled The Power of Ten on Monday, July 16, 10 a.m.-8 at Villa Walsh (455 Western Ave., Morristown). Women from ages 17 to 45 are invited to meet the Sisters and learn about their life and ministry, spend time in private and communal prayer, attend conferences on religious life and the Blessed Mother, and much more. Attend Mass While on Vacation In his Apostolic Letter, Dies Domini, On Keeping the Holy Day, Pope John Paul II said, Pastors should remind the faithful that when they are away from home on Sundays they are to take care to attend Mass wherever they may be, enriching the local community with their personal witness (DD 49). While you are vacationing, please do not miss Mass. If you do not know the location of the local church while you are away, you can visit and get Mass schedules from around the world. We re holding a Flea Market on Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 in the Church parking lot. Vendors are needed and can reserve a space and table for $35; $25 to reserve a space if you can provide your own table. Spaces are assigned on a first come, first served basis, so reserve early. Vendors may call or reserve in person Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 Light refreshments will be for sale. The event is rain or shine; no refunds. Reiff Saints FuN FaCts Saint John Gaulbert ( ) Feast Day: July 12 Patron of forest workers, park rangers, parks Canonized by Pope Celestine III in 1193 John Gaulbert was an Italian Roman Catholic saint, the founder of the Vallumbrosan Order (Roman Catholic religious order, technically a Benedictine congregation).because one of his relatives was murdered, his duty was to avenge the deceased. One Good Friday, he met the murderer in a narrow lane and was about to slay him, but when the man threw himself upon the ground with arms outstretched in the form of a cross, John forgave him through the love of Christ. On his way home, he entered the Benedictine Church at San Miniato to pray, and the figure on the crucifix bowed its head to him in recognition of his generosity. Parish Food Pantry Our Food Pantry serves many families and individuals throughout the year. For many, the Pantry is a vital resource in their daily challenge to make ends meet. Our goal is to assist families in meeting their basic food needs. The OLMC Food Pantry could not exist without the support of our parish community. We are always in need of non-perishable foods and donations. Please leave your donations in one of the vestibules facing the parking lot or at the Rectory during business hours. Join Us! Adult Handicraft Those crafty ladies are once again at work. Their latest project is the creation of afghans for our servicemen and women confined to hospitals and nursing homes. Donations of yarn would be greatly appreciated. They are also continuing their ongoing Hug-A- Bear projects. Last year, the group donated 90 bears to pediatric departments of local hospitals. For this project, donations of light colored cotton material are needed. Items can be left with ushers following Sunday masses, or in the Parish Hall. The summer schedule is as follows: July 16, and August 6/20 at 10 a.m. Women s Auxiliary The ladies are taking the summer off and will resume meetings in September. Word of Life Religious liberty is not only about our ability to go to Mass on Sunday or pray the Rosary at home. It is about whether we can make our contribution to the common good of all Americans. Can we do the good works our faith calls us to do, without having to compromise that very same faith? Without religious liberty properly understood, all Americans suffer, deprived of the essential contribution in education, health care, feeding the hungry, civil rights, and social services that religious Americans make every day. ~ Our First, Most Cherished Liberty, USCCB Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty (April 12, 2012) 2012 Archbishop s Annual Appeal There are so many ways God is made visible in the world around us. Our Church of Newark, which serves Hudson, Essex, Union and Bergen counties, sees God in the hundreds of thousands of people it takes care of every year by teaching, sheltering and caring for all who come to it for help. We can only offer assistance because of your generosity to the 2012 Archbishop s Annual Appeal. Won t you please take a moment to fill out a pledge card? Devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Following the Wednesday 7 and 8 a.m. Masses, we meet for Novena prayers. The Rosary Every day, Sunday through Saturday just before the 7 a.m. Mass. Infant of Prague Novena Tuesday evenings at 7:30 July 8, 2012 ~ 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Summer Fun in Atlantic City! The OLMC Women s Auxiliary is sponsoring another fun trip to the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City on Wednesday, August 22. The bus will leave the Church (Prospect St.) at 9 a.m. The fare is $25, which includes a $25 voucher from the casino. To reserve your seat, call Dottie, (973) Are you a registered parishioner? Occasionally there is a misunderstanding on Parish Registration; every family should be properly registered by filling out a Parish Census Form. If you do not receive collection envelopes in the mail, chances are, you are not officially registered. Forms are available at the rectory, or you can get started by filling out the form on page 5 of this publication and dropping it in the collection basket. It s that easy! All personal information is always kept confidential. First Friday Devotions First Friday Devotions will be discontinued for the months of July, August, and September.
