4 Stewardship in the parish and the diocese Easter Sunday of the resurrection of the lord Stewardship Masses on March 26-27, 2016 Easter Sunday Collection totals were not available at press time. See next week s bulletin for figures. Courtesy of: STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT - EASTER SUNDAY He is Risen! That is our acclamation for Easter. As St. Paul said, without the resurrection, our faith is hopeless and meaningless (1 Cor 15:14). Jesus resurrection from death is the promise of our eternal life. This is truly a joyous, beautiful, and wonderful day. Lest we get too caught up in Easter baskets, Easter eggs, Easter bunnies, and bright spring clothes, let s remember that Easter only makes sense in the context of the Paschal Mystery celebrated in the Triduum, beginning with Holy Thursday, moving through Good Friday, and culminating with the first celebration of the resurrection at the Easter Vigil. Without the empty tomb the cross is just a device of punishment, and without the cross there would be no empty tomb. The suffering and death of Jesus are inseparably linked to his resurrection. Jesus gave of himself completely to the Father s will, even dying on a cross for our sins, and then he was raised from death to return to the Father. Jesus did this for us because he loves us. However, his death and resurrection are more than a one-time event. He modeled how we are called to live our lives. We are called to sacrifice our wills, our lives, to the Father s will, just like he did. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (Lk 14:27). Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat, but if it dies, it produces much fruit. (Jn 12:24). We are stewards of the joyful Easter message that Christ is risen and that we are offered eternal life in him. After the candy is gone, let s get back to knowing the Father s will in our lives and living it for all the world to see. Do our lives shine this Easter message to all who know us? Are we Easter people? Paul Gulig, Chair of Stewardship Committee 4
5 Catholic student center and parish Message of mercy for march A quote from scripture Ephesians 2:4-7 - But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ (by grace you have been saved), raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. From the Office for Vocations - Easter Sunday What stones are being moved away so you can be a minister of the Gospel? Consider inviting someone to be a sister, brother, priest, or deacon. Spread the good news: Jesus is risen! (John 20:1-9). If you have a question about a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, contact Father David Ruchinski, Vocation Director, at (904) ext. 101, or vocations@dosafl.com. From the Justice and Peace Commission Let us accept the grace of Christ s Resurrection! Let us be renewed by God s mercy...and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish. - Pope Francis, Urbi et Orbi, Easter 2013 F.I.R.E. (Faith In Receiving the Eucharist) Retreat The F.I.R.E. Retreat is our Eucharistic centered retreat. F.I.R.E. occurs each Spring semester over a weekend. During this retreat there are many talks and witnesses given. Eucharistic adoration is the center of this retreat, participants are invited to sign up for an hour of adoration and spend time with Jesus in the Eucharist. Normally there are religious sisters and/or brothers on the retreat who give talks, spend time with students, and pray for the retreat. One of the most powerful aspects of the retreat is the Eucharistic procession (pictured). This retreat is a great way for students to grow in their relationship with Christ! 5
