Come as a family. The family that prays together, stays together..today is the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary time. The Scripture Readings for the Mass tell us that because of sin, sickness and death have entered the world, but are overcome through the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus hears the cry of those in need, healing the sick and raising the dead to life. Jesus made himself poor that we might become rich July begins today and our National Holiday, the Fourth of July is on Wednesday. We are grateful to God that we live in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. Please have a safe and happy Fourth of July. The Bishops of the United States realize how important Independence Day is to all Americans and they have crafted special Prayers to be used at the Mass that is celebrated on the Fourth. Our Mass here at St. Marys is at 9:00 a.m. Please come and join in Prayers for the United States of America..Our sympathy and Prayers are offered to Beth Rooney and family upon the death of Sister Ignatius Rooney, a Sister of Mercy. Sr. Ignatius served the Pittsburgh Diocese in many ways over the years. God give her a place in the Heavenly Kingdom Friday is the First Friday of July. Mass and the administering of the Sacrament of the sick will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Many come to this Mass to receive the Sacrament of the sick. Please come for these two Sacraments of our Catholic Faith. Friday is also the Feast of Maria Goretti. Maria died in 1902 at the age of twelve, born near Ancona, Italy, she was stabbed to death, preferring to die than to be raped; with her mother present, she was canonized in 1950 before the largest crowd ever assembled at that time for the making of a Saint. As our parishes prepare to come together as parish groupings, and as we seek to form and strengthen relationships with our sisters and brothers in the Church, the goal is not for these gifts to be trimmed away and wasted. Instead, we are called to work to unite the many ways we seek to do good in the world so that everyone, youth and adults of all ages, can be support in faith and in life. Amen rachaelwojo FORMATION FOR EXTRAORDINARY MINIS- TERS OF HOLY COMMUNION AND READERS A workshop for those in Liturgical Ministry is being offered Saturday, July 14, 2018 at St. Paul Seminary. Rom 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. This would be a good time to learn about the importance of your ministry and how you can best demonstrate its meaning. All Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Commentators are encouraged to attend. If interested please contact the office as we must register as a parish by July 3.

3 July 1, 2018 The Diocese of Pittsburgh is once again planning its Golden Wedding Celebration for couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. A special Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Zubik on Sunday, October 7, at 2:30 PM at St. Paul Cathedral. A light reception will follow in the Cathedral hall. The Beginning Experience Lay Apostolate organizes programs to help widowed, divorced, or separated men and women pass through the grief and begin to move forward with their lives. Our Saturday Seminar is a one-day program led Beginning Experience team members who have also suffered the loss of their marriages and who accompany others along the path to healing. The Saturday Seminar will be held on July 14, 2018 from 9:00 AM 4:00 PM at the Martina Spiritual Renewal Center, 5244 Clarwin Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA which is located in West View/Ross Township. Family Perspective by Bud Ozar The healing of the woman and the child in today s gospel is a reminder we are all wounded. We retreat to those we love looking for acceptance, listening, understanding and support. Families must be healing communities where Jesus is present in our care for one another. Mark 5: The stories in the gospel relate in many ways to the sacrament of the Anointing of the sick, a sacrament that involves an anointing for the forgiveness of sins and strengthening in the time of illness or approaching death. 4 INDEPENDENCE DAY While Independence day or the 4th of July, as it is also known is a day celebrated with picnics, parades, and fireworks, it is important to reflect on the meaning of this special holiday. Important leaders such as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson (both of whom were destined to be future presidents of the Unites States) met together on this day and signed the Declaration of Independence a document that declared the thirteen colonies to be a new nation, free of British rule. Strong leadership is a key element of any successful endeavor; had it not been for the strong leaders heading up the separation from British rule, the United States might not be what it is today. It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not my religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here. Patrick Henry
