Sat. during June Litanies After the am Mass For Reflection: Let us ask the Lord, for us and the whole Church, for the gift of a true conversion of our hearts enabling us to receive Christ as the only Light to follow. Christ is the only one that really dispels the darkness within and around us. The first reading is taken from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 9:1-4. This reading is another prophecy, concerning the messianic days, given by Isaiah in the eighth century B.C. It describes the new era of liberty and joy, which the future Messiah will usher in. The second reading is from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 1:10-13, 17. St. Paul corrects the Corinthians for the pride that was causing them to form factions and divisions. The Gospel is from St. Matthew 4: The prophet Isaiah announced a future of liberation and great joy for all of Galilee, through the image of light that dispels the darkness in which the people walk. The Gospel, quoting verbatim the same passage of the prophet Isaiah, presents Jesus as the Light thus fulfilling Isaiah s prophecy. He is the light that was promised to dispel the darkness of sin and to free man from the obscurity in which he is enclosed. The light becomes an efficacious means to express God s involvement in human history. God manifests Himself as The Light that disperses the darkness. The light illuminates, encircles, defines things, emphasizes the colors and gives depth to space. The light heartens and comforts: to be in an enlightened place helps us to accept reality for what it is and makes one feel happier, more certain and protected. This dynamic is expressed through Jesus call of the first Apostles. He chooses them with an unequivocal call, Follow Me. Faced with God s sudden interruption in their lives He invited them to abandon the nets and trust themselves totally to the Lord for a new catch, a new definitive horizon. At the Last Supper, the end of His earthly life, Jesus reminds His disciples you did not choose me, no, I chose you This Sunday s Gospel invites us to remember that our personal vocation is founded on God s original and absolutely free choice. His invitation towards us, therefore, is an invitation to make a final decision to let Him conquer or re-conquer us to mark a turning point in our lives.

Eucharistic Adoration Thanks be to God we are blessed to have adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament the First Friday of each month and each Thursday of each week after the am Mass until 6PM ending with Spanish Holy Hour Hurricane and Storm Damage Thank you to all who have donated to our special collection for the expenses incurred as a result of the lightning strike on the Church and the result of Hurricane Matthew. If you have not donated yet, there are envelopes by each of the doors, or on the tables in the main entrance. The total donated thus far is $22,511. The estimated costs are much higher than we expected, so the total amount needed is so much higher than the $25,000 we originally thought. Replacing the Church roof is $43,000, and $19,000 for the walkway, not to mention other things that need to be fixed. Thank you for any help you can give us! GIVE* GROW* GO We have received $34,000 toward our $100,000 goal of our Give, Grow, Go Annual Fund. In previous years the funds collected have been used for: Financial scholarships, gym lighting, gym air conditioner, hover cams and other technology equipment. If you d rather make a donation, please make checks payable to Cor Jesu or the Food Pantry Southern Deanery Council of Catholic Women The Southern Deanery of the Council of Catholic Women is offering a $500 scholarship to any Catholic high school student in a Brevard County high school who will graduate at the end of the 2017 school year. This is the 12th year that we have offered this scholarship. For an application and criteria please contact Marge Wolf in the parish office. All applications are due back by March 15, St. Thomas ranks among the greatest writers and theologians of all time. His most important work, the Summa Theologiae, an explanation and summary of the entire body of Catholic teaching, has been standard for centuries, even to our own day. At the Council of Trent it was consulted after the Bible. To a deeply speculative mind, he joined a remarkable life of prayer, a precious memento of which has been left to us in the Office of Corpus Christi. Reputed as great already in life, he nevertheless remained modest, a perfect model of childlike simplicity and goodness. He was mild in word and kind in deed. He believed everyone was as innocent as he himself was. When someone sinned through weakness, Thomas bemoaned the sin as if it were his own. The goodness of his heart shone in his face, no one could look upon him and remain disconsolate. How he suffered with the poor and the needy was most inspiring. Whatever clothing or other items he could give away, he gladly did. He kept nothing superfluous in his efforts to alleviate the needs of others. After he died his lifelong companion and confessor testified, "I have always known him to be as innocent as a five-year-old child. Never did a carnal temptation soil his soul, never did he consent to a mortal sin." He cherished a most tender devotion to St. Agnes, constantly carrying relics of this virgin martyr on his person. He died in 1274, at the age of fifty, in the abbey of Fossa Nuova. He is the patron saint of schools and of sacred theology. 5 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children January 22nd January 22 is the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the day established by the Church of penance for abortion, has been formally named as the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. On this day (or January 23rd when January 22nd falls on a Sunday) your parish, school or religious formation program may celebrate the Mass for Giving Thanks to God for the Gift of Human Life. Every January, thousands of pilgrims travel to Washington to pray together for an end to abortion at the National Prayer Vigil for Life. God, author of all life, bless, we pray, this unborn child; give constant protection and grant a healthy birth that is the sign of our rebirth one day into the eternal rejoicing of heaven... ~ excerpt from the Prayer of Blessing Everyone can find a way to praise and thank God for the gift of life and to ask for protection for each sacred human life. Ministry to the Sick Please Support the Annual Collection for Seminarians January 21 & 22, 2017 Preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Orders is a nine year process of intellectual, spiritual, pastoral and human formation that prepares men to answer the call they have received to serve God s people in love and humility. The Diocese of Orlando supports our seminarians in every possible way, such as through love, prayer, and guidance as they discern and seek the will of God. The other way is through financial support. Our costs are $45,000 a year per seminarian that includes tuition, insurance, books, plus room and board. There are currently 33 seminarians in formation at two seminaries, St. John Vianney Seminary in Miami and St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach. Please give generously to help these young men as they discern the call and you will also be helping to pass on the faith to future generations, your children, grandchildren, neighbors, and the people who will be needing a priest in a moment of crisis. On behalf of these people, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts Apparition Hill Merritt Square February 2nd Last year, director Sean Bloomfield offered seven free trips to a place of alleged miracles a village called Medjugorje in Bosnia, where six children claim to have witnessed ongoing apparitions of the Virgin Mary since 1981 through today. A film about Medjugorje, will be shown at Merritt Square Doors open at 10:30am. Tickets are $ RSVP to reserve call A meeting for the Ministry to the Sick will take place on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in Avila Hall at 6:00 p.m. Anyone interested in this ministry is welcome to join us. To All Caregivers We pray for our caregivers and for those who receive their loving care. Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. ~ MATTHEW Blessing of Throats February 4th and 5th The weekend of Feb. 4-5, the Feast of St. Blaise, we will have the blessing of throats at the end of every Mass. Candle Blessing on February 2nd We will have the blessing of candles (Candlemas) on Thursday, Feb. 2 after the homily at the Mass.. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be taken to the Chapel at the end of Mass and there will be no Benediction at 9:45. Asking all parishioners to bring their candles in to be blessed as we bless all the candles we use in the Church.

6 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17 Divisions in the Community Divisions may show up in any church community. They are signs of the sin we strive to overcome. People argue about the Mass, complain about the preaching, challenge the leadership, get angry at the staff, look down on the music, sneer at the school kids, cringe at infants, and laugh at the elderly. Church communities may be so distracted by the people they see that they neglect the people they do not see: the poor, the unchurched, the homebound those who need to hear the message of Christ, but who do not because Christians are too busy complaining about one another. In first century Corinth, Christians were making divisions along the lines of the ministers who baptized them. I belong to Paul, says one. I belong to Apollos, says another. I belong to Cephas, says still another. Um, don t we all belong to Christ? But you will still hear voices of division: I go to the 9:00 Mass. I sing with the adult choir. My kids go to Catholic school. It is as if those who worship, sing, or get educated elsewhere belong to an entirely different family. Paul urged the Corinthians to have no divisions. He wished them to be united in the same mind and in the same purpose. When churches are divided, it often means that members are also privileged: privileged not to see the burdens of the needy, privileged to demand that things go their way, privileged to think that local problems merit more attention than global ones.
