Litanies After the 8:30am Mass For Reflection: If we do not recognize our neighbor as our brother, we do not recognize God as our Father and we do not love him. DEVOTIONS The first reading is taken from the Book of Exodus 22: These verses cover the Israelites' duties toward strangers (non- Israelites), widows and orphans and the poor in general. They are a practical application of the law of charity in their dealings with their neighbors. The second reading is from the first Letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians 1:5c-10. St. Paul continues to praise the Thessalonians, not only for accepting the faith in difficult circumstances, but for the wonderful example their Christian life had already given to most of Greece. The Gospel is from Matthew 22: The Pharisees may not have had evil intentions when asking Christ the question as to the greatest commandment. But they have done us a good service by getting this crystal clear answer from him. In this answer he tells us that the man who loves God and neighbor fulfills all his obligations, and carries out all the duties that God's self-revelation in "the law and the prophets" imposes on him. God revealed himself to us in the Old Testament as our Creator and divine benefactor. He had no need of us, since he is infinitely perfect in himself, but out of his infinite goodness he wished to share his eternal kingdom of happiness with mankind and so he created us. That we should love such a benefactor and be grateful to him is not asking much of us; such love should surely be the spontaneous reaction of a rational being, and yet there were and there are many who fail to acknowledge any such obligation. No Christian, worthy of the name, can ever be among such thoughtless and thankless people. We have greater proofs of God's love for us than "the law and the prophets" gave to the Israelites. We have the added proofs of God's infinite interest in us brought to us by the Incarnation. We have been raised to the sublime status of adopted sons of God. Let each one of us ask himself today how seriously he takes this law of fraternal charity and how faithfully he carries it out. Not all of us may be able to give material help to a neighbor in need but the poorest of us can spare a kindly word, an encouraging word, for a neighbor weighed down with cares and troubles. All of us can pray for a neighbor who needs spiritual and temporal help. Remember that whatever spiritual or material help is given out of true charity to a neighbor in need, is given to God, and whatever is given to God is soundly invested in heaven, and heaven pays handsome dividends.

Thank you Eucharistic Adoration November 2nd We will have an all day Eucharistic Adoration today from 10am to 6:00pm in the Chapel. Please come and not leave our Lord in the Eucharist unattended during this time. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the main church entrance. There will be the Spanish Holy Hour and Exposition from 6 7:15 PM with week and all are invited. Fair Patron Winner The winner of the Fair Patron drawing for 2017 is Pete & Dot Scalesse. Thank you for your support of our Fair. Save The Date We will celebrate Veterans Day after the 8:30 Mass on Friday, November 10, 2017 the program should begin around 9:15. Please join us! Baby Bottle Campaign Birth * Education * Training * Acceptance Our annual aby bottle campaign begins on Sunday, October 1st and extends to November 5th. Please consider taking a bottle and fill with your extra change or even a check to BETA. If you take a bottle but are unable to contribute at this time, Please return the bottle as they are re-used each year. See you the following week, November 8, at 6:00 p.m. First Reconciliation The next prep session for First Reconciliation is November 13, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the church. L.I.F.E. Class L.I.F.E. class for CCD grades 7 and 8. Will be held on November 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. (this is during the CCD class). A parent or guardian is required to attend with them. Congratulations Fran Drabik Space Coast High School Teacher of the Year Candy Cane Bazaar St. Teresa s will be participating in the Candy Cane Bazaar initiated by Trinity Lutheran Church as a community wide event among the local Churches. People will go from Church to Church all on the same day to shop in our own bazaar of unique crafts and gifts, festive Christmas music and décor, delicious baked goods, door prizes and Silent Auction items. Anyone who would like to participate, please give name, phone/ address, and what you have to donate or sell for this event to the Gift Shop for Sister Yvonne. If you wish to attend, please pick up a special ticket from Sister Yvonne that you need to have each Church you visit stamp for you. There will be a special prize drawing for those who complete the stroll. The Candy Cane Bazaar is on Saturday, November 11 th from 9 2 PM. Donations of non-perishable food items for the local food bank will also be greatly appreciated Feast of All Souls A Special Mass to Celebrate Loved Ones Lost This Past Year Since the early days of the Church, November 2 nd, the Feast of All Souls, has always been celebrated as a special day to remember our beloved relatives and friends who have passed away. Congratulations to Fran Drabik, Space Coast High School educator, who was recently named Teacher of the Year at the school. Fran has taught Social Studies at Space Coast High School in Pt. St. John for several years. Fran is a member of St. Teresa Traditional Choir and frequently serves as Cantor during Mass. We applaud and congratulate Fran on her accomplishment! St Mary s Church Rockledge Celebrates 100 Years The 100 year old bell in the first church of St. Mary s Catholic Community in Rockledge joyously rang 100 times October 13 celebrating the 100 th anniversary of this parish named for Mary, Mother of God on the 100 th anniversary of her appearance in Fatima. Bishop Noonan congratulated St. Mary's on the many milestones achieved over the 100 years. Daylight Savings Time ENDS Don t forget that Daylight Savings Time Ends on Sunday, Nov.5 th. All Soul s Day envelopes are available in the back of the church. If you would like to have loved ones names included in the Novena, please return as soon as possible that they may be placed on the altar. Here at St. Teresa Parish, we, too, take time to remember at a special Mass those who have died within the year (from November, 2016 until November 2, 2017). We invite you and your family, relatives and friends to this special Masson Thursday, November 2 nd at 7 PM in the Church. Loved ones will be remembered in a special way during this Mass. After the homily, the names of all our parishioners who have died since November, 2016 will be read. When you hear your loved one s name read, families will be asked to please come forward to the Altar to light a candle in their memory. The Knights of Columbus and their families will also be joining us as they remember the departed Knights of our Parish. We look forward to seeing all friends and families at this Mass and at the reception in the Parish Center. To help with our preparations, please call the Parish Office ( ) if you plan to attend and how many will be coming. Cor Jesu Food Pantry Where did the year go? Look towards helping others during the holiday season. A gift certificate for a turkey or perishable products is a welcome addition. Our Food Pantry, Cor Jesu, is in need of canned vegetables, yams, cranberries and $10 gift cards to grocery stores for Thanksgiving baskets. Please turn in grocery store gift cards to the Gift Shop. 5 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Priesthood Sunday October 29th Priesthood Sunday, the last Sunday of October, is a special day set aside to honor the priesthood in the United States. This year the day falls on October 29, It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. This nationwide event is coordinated by the USA Council of Serra International. It is sponsored by the USA Council of Serra International and the Serra International Foundation. Serrans are encouraged to spearhead events in their diocese, parish and school to get many people involved to show appreciation to all priests. National Vocation Awareness Week November 5-11th National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated in our country November 5-11, Please ask Our Lord for more dedicated, holy priests, deacons and consecrated men and women for the Diocese of Orlando. May they be inspired by Jesus Christ, supported by our faith community, and respond generously to God s gift of a vocation." Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. At once they left their nets and followed him. Prayer for Vocations God, Our Father, thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son s Kingdom as priests, deacons, and consecrated persons. Send your Holy Spirit to help others to respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth and young adults. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Priests Retirement & Priest Care Collection November 12th Bishop John Noonan seeks to provide senior priests peace of mind as they age knowing that the Diocese will be there for them as any family would care for their loved ones as they age. I am grateful to our senior priests whose retirement is a blessing as they continue to serve the holy people of God. It is an honor to be able to offer them prayerful and pastoral support all the days of their lives. These priests have served with full heart and devotion for many years and continue to serve the Church in whatever way they are able, said Bishop John Noonan. An envelope is provided in your packet. Congratulations! St. Teresa Church Candlelight Choir won again this year s Disney audition for the Epcot Candlelight Concert! They will perform with Disney on Dec. 3 rd at 6:45 PM and 8:15 PM. We will have a Christmas Concert here on Friday, Dec. 1 st to help raise funds to help defray the cost of the bus that will take us to Disney. Pope Francis Prayer Intention for November Christians in Asia That Christians in Asia, bearing witness to the Gospel in word and deed, may promote dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding, especially with those of other religions. Happy ALL Hallows Eve Should we as Catholics celebrate Halloween? Halloween is short for All Hallow s Eve. It is the vigil of All Saints (All Hallows) Day. All Saints Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, and thus a major feast on the Catholic Church s liturgical calendar. Halloween (October 31st) is connected with All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd). Halloween is, therefore, the first day of Allhallowtide, the time of year when the living honors all the dead in Christ: all the saints in heaven as well as all the holy souls detained in purgatory on their way to heaven It is a beautiful celebration of the communion of saints! Halloween begins the celebration of Catholic, and therefore Christian, holy days that remind the faithful of the reality of heaven and hell, the saints and the damned, demons and angels, and the holy souls suffering in purgatory. It is true that Halloween has been badly corrupted and hypercommercialized just like Christmas and Easter, but, just as that should never stop Catholics from fully celebrating the great feasts of the Church the Catholic way, neither should it stop Catholics from enjoying Halloween as a celebration of the great feast of All Saints. To avoid superstition and any negative influence of the occult, Halloween should not be honored or celebrated apart from Catholic truth (in the same way we should keep the birth of Christ at the center of Christmas, and the Resurrection of Christ at the center of Easter).

6 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10 Spread the Word When faith takes root it spreads. When you are truly touched by the mercy of God, you tell other people. You share your faith. They come to believe because of your testimony. In the business world, customers are some of the best agents for selling products. If you really like something you have bought, you tell other people and inspire them to get it too. In the secular world, this is a form of evangelization. Paul, Timothy, and Silvanus, writing to the Thessalonians, complimented them on their faith. It had taken root and it was spreading. The Thessalonians were telling the world about Christ. For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth not only in Macedonia and in Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has gone forth. The Thessalonians had received the word in great affliction, and it brought them tremendous comfort. They shared their faith with others who needed to hear this gospel of hope as well. People undergoing any affliction may find comfort from the gospel of Jesus, whom God raised from the dead and who delivers us from all adversity. If you have experienced peace through faith, and if you know someone suffering some affliction, you can do the world a favor. Proclaim the peace of Jesus Christ. Faith has taken root in your heart.
