For on the altar of the Cross He immolated to the Father His own Body as victim for our reconciliation and shed His blood both for our ransom and for our regeneration. Moreover, in order that a remembrance of so great benefits may always be with us, He has left us His Body as food and His Blood as drink under appearances of bread and wine. "O banquet most precious! O banquet most admirable! O banquet overflowing with every spiritual delicacy! Can anything be more excellent than this repast, in which not the flesh of goats and heifers, as of old, but Christ the true God is given us for nourishment? What more wondrous than this holy sacrament! In it bread and wine are changed substantially, and under the appearance of a little bread and wine is had Christ Jesus, God and perfect Man. In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased, the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacrament is so beneficial. Since it was instituted unto the salvation of all, it is offered by Holy Church for the living and for the dead, that all may share in its treasures. "My dearly beloved, is it not beyond human power to express the ineffable delicacy of this sacrament in which spiritual sweetness is tasted in its very source, in which is brought to mind the remembrance of that all-excelling charity which Christ showed in His sacred passion? Surely it was to impress more profoundly upon the hearts of the faithful the immensity of this charity that our loving Savior instituted this sacrament at the last supper when, having celebrated the Pasch with His disciples. He was about to leave the world and return to the Father. It was to serve as an unending remembrance of His passion, as the fulfillment of ancient types this the greatest of His miracles. To those who sorrow over His departure He has given a unique solace."

See you tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. We wish to thank the Parish family who sponsored the Vacation Bible School so our children can attend free of charge, a big thank you. Father Chris extends a big thank you to Ina for coordinating this fun event! Cor Jesu Foundation (Food Pantry) Annual Report Thanks to all whom donate on a regular basis. Thanks to all the volunteers who collect, pickup, sort, package and distribute food to the hungry in North Brevard. We have had an increase in homeless and veterans served. We also provide numerous toiletries to our clients. This is a team effort and every ones contributions are important. Food goes out almost as fast as it arrives. The Pantry is located at 2306 S. Hopkins Ave. We are open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 until 11:30. Come join Bishop John Noonan as he celebrates the Diocese of Orlando s 50th Anniversary Mass and Interfaith Prayer Service. The Diocese of Orlando has many ministries to celebrate in its mission to bring Christ to our communities as witnesses of faith and the love of God. 5 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ The Feast of Corpus Christi The Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for "Body of Christ") is the Roman Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in the Eucharist known as transubstantiation. Today, the second Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate a second solemnity, which marks our return to Ordinary Time in the liturgical calendar. Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At one time, this day was called Corpus Christi, the Latin words for the Body of Christ. In the most recent revision of our liturgical rites, the name for this day is expanded to be a more complete reflection of our Eucharistic theology. In our reading for today, we read the account of the Last Supper found in the Gospel of Mark. It begins with the instructions that Jesus gave to his disciples to prepare their Passover celebration. It then goes on to give an account of the Last Supper. On this Sunday, however, our Lectionary reading omits the verses between these two passages; in those omitted verses we hear Jesus predict his betrayal by one of his disciples. The Gospel of Mark describes Jesus Last Supper with his disciples as a celebration of the Jewish feast of Passover. The Jewish celebration of Passover is a memorial to and a ritual participation in the defining moment of Israel s history. It celebrates God s deliverance of his people from slavery in Egypt. The Passover meal includes many ritually important elements, such as unleavened bread, lamb, and bitter herbs. Each food item recalls an aspect of the Exodus event. The instructions for the preparation of this meal are carefully prescribed in the Law of Moses. It is a central obligation of the Jewish faith tradition to celebrate this meal and to give thanks to God for his deliverance and protection. In the description of the Passover meal found in today s Gospel, however, Mark omits many elements of the Jewish Passover meal. Instead he describes only those elements he believes to be most essential to the Christian Eucharist: Jesus took bread, blessed the bread, broke the bread, and shared it with his disciples. Similar words and actions follow as Jesus shares the chalice with his disciples. This bread now shared is Jesus own body. Those who drink from the chalice are invited to share in a new covenant which will be sealed by Jesus own blood. Mark s Eucharistic theology looks forward to the Kingdom of God that Jesus inaugurates. The Gospel for today reminds us that the Eucharist is a memorial of Christ s sacrifice on the cross. We believe that Jesus is truly present to us in the elements of bread and wine. Each time we celebrate this sacrament, we prepare for the Kingdom of God. This celebration, as the Second Vatican Council taught us, is the source and summit of the Christian life. June 8th The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary The pious practice of the first Fridays of the month which derives from the "great promises" made by Jesus to St. Margaret Mary. The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Although the devotion was popular in the Middle Ages and then combated Jansenism of the 19th and 20th centuries, turning to Jesus mercy and love and making reparation for sin is important for all Catholics, especially for this era. This Friday, the third Friday after Pentecost is the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Although the revelations to St. Margaret Mary of Alacoque in the 17th century promoted this devotion, the origins of the honoring of Jesus and His love for man trace back to Scripture and many other saints and sacred writings throughout the history of the Church. And the devotion is not outdated, but actually for our time. The 20th century saw almost every pope promote the devotion to the Sacred Heart, including the encyclical Hauerietis Aquas (On the Sacred Heart) by Pius XII in The actual feast began only in 1765 as a locally celebrated in Poland and certain congregations, and then in 1856 Pope Pius IX made it a feast for the universal church. In 1899 Pope Leo XIII raised it to a higher rank, and Pius XI elevated the feast even higher, and revised the liturgical texts, which are the basis of the Mass texts used today. Understood in the light of the Scriptures, the term "Sacred Heart of Jesus" denotes the entire mystery of Christ, the totality of his being, and his person considered in its most intimate essential: Son of God, uncreated wisdom; infinite charity, principal of the salvation and sanctification of mankind. The "Sacred Heart" is Christ, the Word Incarnate, Saviour, intrinsically containing, in the Spirit, an infinite divine-human love for the Father and for his brothers. In the apparitions to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Jesus gives these twelve promises for those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life. I will establish peace in their families. I will console them in all their troubles. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of their death. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy. Tepid souls shall become fervent. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection. I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in you!

In those that do, some people abstain. Some worry about the sanitation of drinking from a common cup. Others probably find the idea of drinking blood a bit repulsive. Perhaps it is. But so is the idea of eating flesh. Our communion in Christ is a bold gesture of faith and commitment. Drinking the Blood of Christ is an important expression of our faith. Jesus asked his followers at the Last Supper to eat his Body and drink his Blood. He didn t recommend just one or the other. The Letter to the Hebrews expresses the significance of the Blood of Christ. In the past, the high priest entered the Holy of Holies, the heart of the temple, with the blood of goats and calves. The sprinkling of this blood forgave the sins of those who were defiled. When Christ ascended into heaven, he entered the holiest of holy places. He brought with him his own blood for our sakes. How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God. Drinking the Blood of Christ forgives our sins, frees us from dead works, and makes us more worthy to worship. It is an act of faith, thanksgiving, and forgiveness. Written by Paul Turner.
