1 ALLELUIA HE HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD! My dear friends let us sing Alleluia for Our Lord Jesus Christ has risen from the Dead! In Acts 10:39-42 we are given this testimony: Peter opened his mouth and said many things including this, he said: And we are witnesses to all that Jesus did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put Him to death by hanging Him on a tree but God raised Him on the third day and made Him manifest; not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead. And He recommended to us to preach to the people, and to testify that He is the One ordained by God to be judged of the living and the dead. With gratitude and appreciation I wish all of you a Happy Easter! You took advantage of the 40 days of Lent to prepare for this Easter celebration and now you are reaping what you have sowed. Let us celebrate with joy for His resurrection gives us the hope for our being raised from the dead to join Him in heaven. Please join me in thanking God for the parish life we have today. Certainly we would not have reached this stage if God did not aid us with the abilities that have brought us this far. I know that our mission is not yet completed. But we are doing what good servants do in obedience to his/her leader. We give God our best and He will give us what we deserve. To those of you who have responded to the power of the Holy Spirit and offer your time and talent to assist me in serving the parish in various ministries; I thank you. Our parish s needs are great and your response is appreciated. I could not mention each of you by name for fear of missing someone. I trust that when you read this message, you know that it is you that I extend my heartfelt gratitude. You have helped me to take care of God s vineyard. Our Finance Council has been working hard on our financial challenges. With their diligent help our parish will continue to work toward coping financially. I thank God that we have volunteers capable of helping us work through this area of need; and freely offer their assistance. We continue to need your financial sacrifices and support. Truly, I cannot serve the parish without you and your family. I sincerely thank each and every one of you who contribute your time, talent and treasure in support of Stewardship for Divine Mercy Parish! May God reward you generously in your efforts! We are ONE BODY WITH MANY MEMBERS. We need each other on our journey to heaven. Let us work together. Let us support one another in joy and sorrow. I extend my sincere love to all our parishioners who have recently lost their loved ones, or commemorate their death anniversary at this time. I pray that the surety of the resurrection of Christ will console you and sustain your hope in the resurrection of the dead. May the Risen Lord Bless You and Keep you. May His face shine upon you and give you His lasting Peace. - Fr. Soane T. Kaniseli

3 Page 2 A Word From... the detail provided about the burial cloths. Some scholars believe that the presence of the burial cloths in the tomb offers evidence to the listener that Jesus' body had not been stolen (it is understood that grave robbers would have taken the burial cloths together with the body). The Gospel passage concludes, however, that even having seen the empty tomb and the burial cloths, the disciples do not yet understand about the Resurrection. In the passage that follows, Mary of Magdala meets Jesus but mistakes him for the gardener. In the weeks ahead, the Gospel readings from our liturgy will show us how the disciples came to believe in Jesus' Resurrection through his appearances to them. Our Easter faith is based on their witness to both the empty tomb and their continuing relationship with Jesus in his appearances and in his gift of the Holy Spirit. + Sunday Connections April 1st, 2018 Easter Sunday The Resurrection of the Lord First Reading: Acts of the Apostles 10:34a,37-43 Peter preaches about Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 118:1-2,16-17,22-23 Rejoice in this day of the Lord. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6b-8 Colossians: Having been raised by Christ, be concerned with what is above. 1 Corinthians: Let us celebrate this feast with new yeast. Gospel Reading: John 20:1-9 Mary of Magdala finds that the stone has been removed from Jesus' tomb. Background on the Gospel Reading: Today we begin the Easter Season, our 50-day meditation on the mystery of Christ's Resurrection. Our Gospel today tells us about the disciples' discovery of the empty tomb. It concludes by telling us that they did not yet understand that Jesus had risen from the dead. Thus, the details provided are not necessarily meant to offer proof of the Resurrection. The details invite us to reflect upon a most amazing gift, that is faith in Jesus and his Resurrection. Each of the four Gospels tells us that Jesus' empty tomb was first discovered by women. This is notable because in first-century Jewish society women could not serve as legal witnesses. In the case of John's Gospel, the only woman attending the tomb is Mary of Magdala. Unlike the Synoptic accounts, John's Gospel does not describe an appearance of angels at the tomb. Instead, Mary is simply said to have observed that the stone that had sealed the tomb had been moved, and she runs to alert Simon Peter and the beloved disciple. Her statement to them is telling. She assumes that Jesus' body has been removed, perhaps stolen. She does not consider that Jesus has been raised from the dead. Simon Peter and the beloved disciple race to the tomb, presumably to verify Mary's report. The beloved disciple arrives first but does not enter the tomb until after Simon Peter. This detail paints a vivid picture, as does SAINTS AND READINGS OF THE WEEK Sunday, April 1 St. Hugh of Grenoble ACTS 10:34A, 37-43; PS 118:1-2, 16-17, ; COL 3:1-4; I COR 5:6B- 8CF. 1 COR 5:7B-8A; JN 20:1-9 or MK 16:1-7; or LK 24:13-35; Monday, April 2 St. Francis of Paola ACTS 2:14, 22-33; PS 16:1-2A AND 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11; PS 118:24; MT 28:8-15 Tuesday, April 3 St. Richard of Wyche ACTS 2:36-41; PS 33:4-5, 18-19, 20 AND 22; PS 118:24; JN 20:11-18 Wednesday, April 4 St. Isidore of Seville ACTS 3:1-10; PS 105:1-2, 3-4, 6-7, 8-9; PS 118:24; LK 24:13-35 Thursday, April 5 St. Vincent Ferrer ACTS 3:11-26; PS 8:2AB AND 5, 6-7, 8-9; PS 118:24; LK 24:35-48 Friday, April 6 St. William of Eskilsoe ACTS 4:1-12; PS 118:1-2 AND 4, 22-24, 25-27A; PS 118:24; JN 21:1-14 Saturday, April 7 St. John Baptist de la Salle ACTS 4:13-21; PS 118:1 AND 14-15AB, 16-18, 19-21; PS 118:24; MK 16:9-15 Each Sunday, a family, couple, or individual is called forward at Mass to receive the vocation cross and a special prayer written to accompany it. With hope and expectation, we therefore bring him all our needs. That the Church may boldly and faithfully proclaim the Resurrection of Christ to those who do not yet believe in it. For the priests serving in the Diocese of Sacramento, that the peace of the risen Lord will sustain them in their work for Him. For all those called to the priesthood or consecrated life in the Diocese of Sacramento, that they will always seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. That our Easter celebration will help us to become more grateful and willing to make sacrifices to help build God s kingdom on earth. That the leaders of our nations and world may give priority to those with greatest need in the distribution of the world's basic resources. That in the light of Christ's victory over death, nations may work together to overcome violence against all, especially the poor, the weak, and the unborn. That the newly baptized and confirmed, and those received into full communion with the Catholic Church, may continue to grow with this community in worship and service. That the sick may be comforted and healed, and that all who have died may share in the Resurrection. Remembering the Sick in Prayer stewardship USCCB on Stewardship: Stewards of the Church Stewards of God's gifts are not passive beneficiaries. We cooperate with God in our own redemption and in the redemption of others. We are also obliged to be stewards of the Church collaborators and cooperators in continuing the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which is the Church's essential mission. This mission proclaiming and teaching, serving and sanctifying is our task. It is the personal responsibility of each one of us as stewards of the Church. All members of the Church have their own roles to play in carrying out its mission: Parents, who nurture their children in the light of faith; Parishioners, who work in concrete ways to make their parishes true communities of faith and vibrant sources of service to the larger community; All Catholics, who give generous support time, money, prayers, and personal service according to their circumstances to parish and diocesan programs and to the universal Church.
