2 Beloved Parishioners and Guests, Freely I acknowledge we priests at St. Mary s have been tested in terms of our pastoral ministry as we try to reach out to the ten country parishes that we serve, besides Yorkton, to the best of our ability. This is proving to be a challenge - we three priests, Father Methodius (85), Fr. Ray (57) FROM THE and myself (76) are being stretched to the limit and we truly are assessing our capabilities, wondering how long we can PASTOR S DESK continue to serve, especially with no young future priests in sight! We Redemptorists have faithfully served the districts of Yorkton, Ituna, Wynyard and Roblin for so many decades. Our parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help is over 100 years old and other parishes also reflect their age. All of you older parishioners remember the names of the elderly priests who have been called into the Heavenly Kingdom - be they Fathers Bala, Shyshkowich, Chomiak, Bachtelowsky, Maluga, Hrynchyshyn, Kuchmiak, Bzdel, Shawels, Novak, Yakimishyn, and even Kyba... etc. Once we Redemptorist priests numbered over 45 but now we are struggling with some 13 confreres and all is not well in this scene. More current priests, also known to the younger set, are facing challenges in their own right, be they Fr. Frank Szadiak, suffering with heart problems, Fr. Len Ratushniak with bone cancer, Fr. Vlad Kopolkov with chronic diabetes, and now Father Peter Pidskalny is suffering some major illness... All of these priests truly need your daily prayers and in fact, we who are serving you now need your constant support to stay young (!) and healthy...(!) and we warmly thank you for all that you do to make our lives and ministry more successful... Verily this message is an urgent request for your prayers and your support for now and the future... our parishioners have always be a wonderful and strong supporters of priests. We do ask you to pray for vocations to this sacerdotal calling; we need your encouragement, your love and your prayers...and for this we offer heartfelt thanks... Please I implore you - remember that Thanksgiving is not just the turkey and the joy, but it is the giving thanks! May we never be too busy in life that we don't find time to say Thank you. Truly try not to take anything for granted, and mostly, do not delay your expressions of gratitude. No one needs tears of gratitude or funeral flowers over their grave! Do this for one another while we are very much alive!!! May this Thanksgiving be a time of warmth, of love, of peace and of joy! The Miracle of the Sun on that day converted 100's and possibly, 1000's of unbelieving souls and she continues to perform wonderful miracles on behalf of her Son. Mary's love for all of us continues perpetually. As a loving Mother of Mankind, She waits for our prayers and petitions with a maternal desire to heal our pains and to win souls for Her Son Jesus. Warren Dungen will be speaking Friday night at 8:45pm and on Saturday at 10:30am at the Bishop's Chancery in the Guadeloupe Room upstairs in discussing what will help us as young Catholics to understand our faith and how to have a stronger faith life. This will be accompanied by different activities on Saturday for the youth and young adults such as a scavenger hunt at the Musée Ukrainia Museum at 1pm and fun at the Corn Maze on the corner of Cedar Villa Road at 3:30pm! We will finish the night by joining the Eparchial Convention Banquet at 6:30pm. The online registration is on the Eparchial youth website: Deadline to register is October 18th. Registration fee: $74 (includes speaker fee, meals and the corn maze). To make this an Eparchial event we ask for any parishioners who would like to billet our participants from out of town to save on cost for accommodation.
