5 Eparchy of Saskatoon Family and Life Office Bulletin: SOBOR in Action Edition The future of the world passes through the family Familiaris Consortio, 79 As I mentioned in the previous insert, make sure you look over the SOBOR 2014 document and if you can, register for the SOBOR in Action March 7 and 8, 2015 in Saskatoon. This is an important opportunity for us as Church in this great province to move forward with a renewed sense of unity and mission to encounter the Living Christ and to build homes and parishes where all will encounter Jesus. 10 Reasons to attend SOBOR in Action: 1. This is your chance to hear Fr. Gregory Hrynkiw speak on the Divine Liturgy. (He is a great speaker and very knowledgeable he will help you grow in your faith.) 2. This is an opportunity to meet and hear from the people who are involved in Eparchial ministries and find out what they do and how they can serve and work with you in the new evangelization. (If you don t know what the new evangelization is hopefully you will find that out too!) 3. You will be able to ask questions and state your views regarding specific Eparchial priorities in the renewal of our entire Church. (It will be a time for respectful listening, as well as a call to action.) 4. This is your chance to be inspired with hope for the future of our Church, as you listen to the stories of real people from all parts of the Eparchy speaking on how Christ has transformed their lives. 5. This may be God s opportunity to call you to get involved at a deeper level in sharing our greatest gifts of faith, hope and love with others. 6. You will meet (and possibly get to know) other like-minded people who love God and our church and who share your desire to build our homes and parishes into places where all may encounter Christ. 7. You will be treated to great meals. 8. You will return to your parishes with practical initiatives that you can help to promote and implement to build the faith of families and individuals. 9. You will become a better formed, more informed and empowered Greek Catholic from the Eparchy of Saskatoon. 10. Online registration at DPL Mark Pickup: Speaker on Faith and the Sanctity of Human Life At a time when we are facing a severe threat to human life as a result of the Supreme Court of Canada s decision to strike down legislation prohibiting assisted suicide, Mark Pickup is making his voice heard. Mark is very humble yet prolific speaker. When I first heard him at the Catholic Organization for Life and Family Conference in Ottawa, in 2012, giving a talk entitled I am more than my disability I was blown away. Marc is a triplegic with advanced Multiple sclerosis. His life and testimony speaks volumes of the profound meaning that can be found in human suffering and limitation. In our busy, action oriented world we often see value in human life based only on what we can do, what we can contribute. God sees things very differently. We need to as the song from the movie the Prince of Egypt tells us, look at our life from heaven s eyes. Mark Pickup s journey to see things from this perspective began when he was diagnosed with an incurable degenerative illness. All of us are wounded; we need healing. All of us are broken; we need transformation. All of us face limitations; we need God and each other as Church. Together as Church we need to bring Christ into the world, as we live out our everyday lives. Come out and hear how God made a difference in Mark s life and how Mark is devoted to speaking out for the cause of human life. Let us imagine together how we as Church might be transformed in our hearts. Let us join together in prayer that we might be renewed in our vision so that we too may have the hope and courage in Christ to make a difference for the life of our families, parishes, our communities and the world.
