Note also that from Easter Sunday to Ascension Thursday, at daily Liturgies, the Sunday antiphons are recited and the tropar, kondak, etc. are read from the preceding Sunday bulletin. The Epistle and Gospel are of the day. EASTER REFRAIN: Christ is risen from the dead, by death He conquered death, and to those in the graves He granted life. End of Liturgy: He granted us eternal life, we exalt and glorify His Resurrection. TROPAR (Tone 2): When You went down to death, O Life Immortal, You struck Hades dead with the blazing light of Your divinity. When You raised the dead from the nether world, all powers of heaven cried out: O Giver of life, Christ our God, glory be to You! Tropar (Tone 2): The noble Joseph took down Your most pure body from the Cross. He wrapped it in a clean shroud, and with fragrant spices laid it in burial in a new tomb. This year Parish Council decided to have something a little different. We will not have traditional full meal with tickets sold in advance. It will be a soup, sandwich and dessert meal with a good will offering. Sign up sheets have been posted on the wall in the auditorium and we hope to see a large crowd for this event. This will help with food preparation. As part of the program for praznyk, Art will be showing a 23 minute video on Medjugorje Pilgrimage after lunch. PEROGY BEES: In preparation for Mosaic in June, the UCWLC, UCBC, and Parish will be uniting in making perogies. A total of 800 dozen must be made. The evenings of May 2/9/16 have been set aside for peeling potatoes and chopping/cooking onions. The evenings of May 3/10/17 have been reserved for making the perogies. Sign-up sheets have now been posted on the wall in the auditorium. Please mark your calendars and make arrangements to help with this fund raiser.

3 UCWLC LEAGUE DAY will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at St. Basil the Great Parish Centre. Details to follow next Sunday. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert-like island. The two survivors, not knowing wha else to do, agree that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island. The first thing the first man prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruitbearing tree on his side of the land and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man s parcel of land remained barren.

4 After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the island. On the other side of the island there was nothing. Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing. Finally the first man prayed for a ship so that his wife and he could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God s blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered. As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, Why are you leaving your companion on the island? My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them, the first man answered. His prayers were all unanswered, and so he does not deserve anything. You are mistaken!, the voice rebuked him. He had only one prayer which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings. Tell me, the first man asked the voice, what did he pray for that I should owe him anything? He prayed that all your prayers be answered. For all we know our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us. ST.
