2 Dear Beloved Parishioners and Guests, All of us have been sickened by the horrible attacks on our Jewish sisters and brothers in Pittsburgh and even more sadly this anti-semitism seems to be increasing. As a Church in the past, we too were very guilty and need forgiveness and must reconcile for our unchristian deeds and words. We are not trying to make excuse for the grave sins of our Catholic priests and bishops who sinfully were involved in the sexual abuse crisis, but as one Christian leader said: Let us not leave Jesus because of Judas! FROM THE PASTOR S DESK This is an article written by non-catholic; Sam Miller - a prominent Cleveland Jewish businessman in defense of our sinful church: THE CATHOLIC CHURCH "Why would newspapers carry on a vendetta on one of the most important institutions that we have today in the USA, namely the Catholic Church? Do you know - the Catholic Church educates 2.6 million students everyday at the cost to that Church of 10 billion dollars and a savings, on the other hand, to the American taxpayer of 18 billion dollars. The graduates go on to graduate studies at the rate of 92%. The Church has 230 colleges and universities in the U.S. with an enrollment of over 700,000 students. The Catholic Church has a non-profit hospital system of 637 hospitals, which account for hospital treatment of 1 out of every 5 people - not just Catholics - in the United States today. But the press is vindictive and trying to totally denigrate in every way the Catholic Church in this country. They have blamed the disease of pedophilia on the Catholic Church, which is really as irresponsible as blaming adultery on the institution of marriage. Let me give you some figures that Catholics should know and remember. For example, 12% of the 300 Protestant clergy surveyed admitted to sexual intercourse with a parishioner; 38% acknowledged other inappropriate sexual contact in a study by the United Methodist Church, 41.8% of clergy women reported unwanted sexual behavior; 17% of laywomen have been sexually harassed. Meanwhile, 1.7% of the Catholic clergy has been found guilty of pedophilia. 10% of the Protestant ministers have been found guilty of pedophilia. This obviously is not just a Catholic problem! A study of American priests showed that most are happy in the priesthood and nd it even better than they had expected, and that most, if given the choice, would choose to be priests again in face of all this obnoxious PR the Church has been receiving. The Catholic Church is bleeding from self-inflicted wounds. The agony that Catholics have felt and suffered is not necessarily the fault of the Church. You have been hurt by a small number of wayward priests that have probably been totally weeded out by now and a number of bishops who failed to act. Walk with your shoulders high and your head higher. Be a proud member of the most important non-governmental agency in the United States. Be proud to speak up for your faith with pride and reverence and learn what your Church does for all other religions. Be proud that you're a Catholic!" Lest We Forget How Many Days Till Christmas? This will be asked many times in the coming weeks. But will this question cause us to think about preparing for the HOLIDAY SEASON or the HOLY DAY, CHRISTMAS? In all the rushing around, it is easy to forget that Jesus is the reason for the season. This is why the Church provides us with the time of the PRE-CHRISTMAS FAST, PYLYPIVKA sometimes called ADVENT, which begins on November 15 in our Catholic Church. This period of preparation is a time of expectation, a time to ready our hearts for celebrating the presence of the Lord in the child born in Bethlehem. Society tells us to prepare and expect for another reason. The parking lots at the malls will be full, there will be more traffic on the roads, and checkout lines will be busier. The world begins to prepare early and we are touched by it. Our preparation, however, should include reflection on the rich mercy of our God who shares His only Son with us. 5 Redemptorist Missionary VOCATION DAY Sunday, November 11, 2018 WITNESSES OF THE REDEEMER: In Solidarity for Mission to a Wounded World Please pray for vocations to the Redemptorists here in Canada and around the world as we celebrate Redemptorist Missionary Vocation Day on November 11, The Redemptorists and the millions of persons to whom we minister thank you for your personal commitment, your prayer and your generous support. Glory be to Jesus Christ! Dear Parishioners, REDEMPTORIST ELECTION NEWS The Redemptorists in Canada have had a storied history with three Units across Canada - French, and. There is a need for the sake of our mission in Canada to restructure and reorganize ourselves into one Unit. A process has been in place for some time now and we will begin a new journey as one Canadian Unit in January This is an historic moment for all of us. Once this new Unit (or Province) is formed it will have a new Provincial Superior and a new Council. It will be composed of 3 Regions, respective of the 3 former Units, each with its own Regional Superior. A couple of weeks ago, we elected Fr. Mario Boies, C.Ss.R. from St. Anne de Beaupre, Quebec as the Provincial of the new Canada-wide Province! Recently there was also an election among the Redemptorists for Regional Superior: We congratulate Fr. Michael Smolinski, C.Ss.R. who will assume the responsibility of Regional Superior of the Yorkton Region on January 1, Thank-you Fr. Michael for taking this important leadership role! We wish you many blessings! (For at least the time being, Fr. Michael will remain as pastor of Saints Peter and Paul in Saskatoon as he also takes on the role of Regional Superior and a member of the Ordinary Provincial Council for the new Redemptorist Province of Canada.) We will share more details of how all of this fits together in the near future.
