3 * REFLECTIONS FROM FR. TOM IWANOWSKI * LOOKING TO SUNDAY Sunday. This , entitled Looking to Sunday, focuses on the Gospel Reading for Sunday. It prepares readers to hear God s Word at Mass and it offers a point of reflection to consider. Looking to Sunday is written by Father Tom Iwanowski. MAKING CUTS Not every boy or girl who tries out for the high school basketball team makes it. During a series of tryouts the coaches evaluate the skills and potential of each player and consider the needs of the team. The coaches have certain criteria in mind that guide their selection. They want to choose players who will fit in and help bring the team to victory. Not every applicant who applies for a job gets the advertised position. Resumes are reviewed and then certain men and women are invited for an interview. When the first round of interviews are completed, selected applicants are invited back for a second, and sometimes a third interview. During those meetings, the applicant is evaluated by the potential employer who wants to be sure that the right person is chosen, someone who has the skills, who will be a good fit, and who will help the firm prosper. Not every hope-to-be-star who spends hours and hours waiting in line for an audition to stand before the judges of American Idol or The X Factor is chosen to appear on the show. In fact, the vast majority do not make it. There is an intensive selection process where talents are evaluated, looks are critiqued, and questions are asked. The judges want to select people who will engage the television audience and keep up the ratings of the program. During life we are evaluated, scrutinized, and judged by different people according to certain criteria. Not everyone makes the team, gets the job, or appears on TV. Yet oddly enough when it comes to our spiritual life and our relationship with God, many people think everyone makes the team, gets the position, and appears in glory! However, that is not the message we get from this Sunday's Gospel. There Jesus says "When the Son of Man comes in his glory... he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats." The sheep will be judged worthy of a place in the kingdom of God, and the goats will be sent to the fires of hell. That certainly sounds like judgment and selection. In that Gospel, Jesus, the judge, makes the criteria he uses in his selection process very clear. He judges us according to how we respond to the needs of the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the ill, and the imprisoned. For in those people, who are often dismissed, ignored, and overlooked, Jesus is present in some way. This Sunday, Jesus makes it very clear there is a judgment. He also makes it equally clear what we must do if we want to avoid being cut from the kingdom of God Rev. Thomas B. Iwanowski, Looking To Sunday CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Dear Sisters & Brothers: Praise the Lord for the kindness & sacrificial generosity of all who have made their pledge in this most vital campaign our Parish Family has pledged over $132,116!!! Our parish goal is $282,483 and we received $77, At this time our parish portion is $25, and our parish family has received 75 pledges. The smallest sacrifices, over time, equal a significant contribution to our campaign. Peace & Blessings, Fr. Leo

SUNDAY 5PM CONTEMPORARY MASS As times change in family dynamics, we as a parish family need to adjust to the needs of our families so as to nurture them in their spiritual life. In light of this we have inaugurated a Contemporary Family Mass that will be celebrated every Sunday at 5PM. This is a great blessing to our parish as we see families participating in these liturgies as well as those new to this area and visiting. May we continue to see growth and see our parishioners invite others to participate. This Mass will be on a 3-month trial basis so as to evaluate participation of younger families as well as anyone who would like to attend this liturgy. Indeed, all families and individuals are encouraged to attend! This Mass will include contemporary music with individuals, families and youth participating. Should this be met with enthusiasm and participation we will make it part of our regular weekend schedule. COMMUNITY NEWS PERFORMING ARTS FUNDRAISER - LAUGHS - FOOD - FRIENDS ST.
