3 * SUNDAY REFLECTIONS * Dear Sister and Brothers: Recently I received the following open invitation from Fr. Stephen Cinque (OLGC) and Fr. Jim Weiner (St. Andrew's) which I thought I would share with the parish family, as I thought you would like to partake in a Summer Seminar that is being supported jointly by both parishes. As there has been a recognized hunger and request to have a faith formation experience during the summer it is through prayer and discernment that this wonderful opportunity developed - and the parishes have extended an open invitation to others who may desire to participate. I personally look forward to partaking in this seminar as a time of prayer and enrichment, and I hope you would all like to join me. Please see the information that follows noting that the seminar begins on July 26. If you have any questions or require a ride - please do not hesitate to or call me. Peace and Cool Breezes!! Fr. Leo SAVE-THE-DATES A SUMMER FAITH-SHARING SEMINAR The Pastors of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Washington Township and St. Andrew s Parish of Westwood are sponsoring a summer faith experience which is open to all parishes and local communities, on Thursday evenings, at 7:00 PM. July 26: Is being a good person enough to get you into heaven? / Where am I on my journey to the Kingdom of God? August 2: How to let go and let God take control of your life. Do you allow the Holy Spirit to impact your life? August 9: The impact of evil in our society and how it affects our everyday lives August 16: How to change your life by reading the Bible. Location: Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Sullivan Center, Rackley Room 668 Ridgewood Road Township of Washington Refreshments will be provided. Fr. Sylvester, a visiting priest at OLGC from Nigeria, will be the seminar s guest speaker. There will be opportunities for small group sharing. Fr. Sylvester comes to us from the Diocese of Nnewi in Anambra State, Nigeria. The inspiration for his priestly vocation began with the regular praying of the rosary with his family. The greatest influence in Fr. Sylvester s life was the indelible holiness of his parish priest, the late Fr. Godwin C. Ikeobi. Fr. Sylvester entered the seminary at 11 years of age. After his philosophical and theological studies and formation, Fr. Sylvester was ordained a priest for the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Nigeria, on the 14 th of July He served as a Parish Vicar from Bishop Okeke sent Fr. Sylvester to study for his license and doctorate in Biblical theology at the Focolta di Teologia Lugano in Switzerland. Fr. Cinque, Pastor of OLGC, welcomes Fr. Sylvester back for a third summer. Fr. Sylvester s love of God, his education, and his anointed gifts of preaching and teaching continues to open the eyes and hearts of those who desire a deeper communion with our Triune God. He continues Jesus call to spread the Good News to the ends of the earth even here in Bergen County! For information and registration, please call: Brigid or / midt@me.com

5 Dear Sisters and Brothers: * S O S COLLECTION * As many of you are already aware, the air conditioning system in the Church has crossed over to the great beyond. As this system was installed over 30 years ago we are unable to, even if we could, repair the units as there are certain environmental laws in place that prevent outdated refrigerants to be installed as well as the parts being no longer available. Luckily, we are blessed to have a separate unit that cools the Church hall, and until the Church units are replaced we will have our weekend and weekday liturgies in the Church hall. All weddings and funerals will be celebrated at Saint Mary s, Closter. At this time I have obtained one quote (two more forthcoming) for the required work, and as I shared at Church this weekend we can either go with a system that produces only air conditioning or a system that provides air conditioning and heat. Overall, as I have learned from those who are well versed in HVAC from our parish family, it is strongly encouraged to go with the later as the new units will offer the parish a financial savings with regards to our utilities budget, and there is the bonus of having a back-up system for heat should the boiler fail to function. The first quote offers the following: Air Conditioning Only: $54, & Air Conditioning and Heat: $69, I presume the other two quotes will fall into this range and with the guidance of parishioners familiar with HVAC we will chose the quote that offers the parish the best between sales and service. As a Parish Family I invite you to join me in making a onetime sacrificial gift to off-set the cost for this unexpected project. At this time we have already received $5000 for this project. Please know of my sincere gratitude to all who have already contributed. Please make your check out to ICC Norwood / HVAC Fund. You may either drop off your contribution at the rectory during regular business hours or in the weekly collection. Thank you for assisting your parish and may you and your families have a blessed summer with family, friends and the Lord. Peace and Blessings, Fr. Leo COMMUNITY NEWS MASS & SUPPORT FOR ALCOHOL ADDICTION A special mass and a support group meeting for all who are affected by the disease of alcoholism will take place at Church of St. Mary, 20 Legion Place, Closter, NJ on Saturday, June16, 2018 at 12:00 noon.
