The message in today s Gospel reminds us to act with compassion. Be the Love that Gives Hope with your gift to the Charity and Development Appeal (CDA). Daniel Cruz The Church celebrates the lives of the saints, three birthdays, a beheading or a conversion. But did you know we celebrate a chair? On February 22nd we celebrate the feast of the Chair of Saint Peter (Latin: Cathedra petri). There is a physical object and it is located in the apse of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. However, it is more than a physical structure. This ancient tradition has been proven to have existed in Rome since the fourth century. The Latin word Cathedra means the established seat of the bishop. After the martyrdom of St. Peter in Rome, this became the recognized See of the Successor of Peter. The "chair" or cathedra in Rome represents Christ's mission entrusted to St. Peter and his successors to care to His flock which is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. (Now you do!!!) VINCENT DE PAUL On the weekend of January 26 and 27 our St. Vincent de Paul conference held our annual Bundle Drive. With your generous donations of household items, clothing, books, and other Items we were able to fill one and half trucks for the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store on Bell Rd. The donated items will be offered for sale at the store, and the proceeds will be contributed to the overall mission of the Society, to feed, clothe, house, and heal those in need.
