2 THE 25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 23, 2018 FROM FR. KLINE Who Do You Say That I Am? (part II of II) Dear Brothers and Sisters, Lots of folks have shared with me their thoughts about Jesus and His Church. I am not sure that it matters as much what people think about Jesus or His Church. I think what matters more to Our Lord is that YOU desire to know, love and follow Him. So when asked by anyone, you can say like Peter: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. How was St. Peter able to answer Our Lord s question as he did? Remember Peter and the apostles had a different answer than the people in the crowds. Why? Because true followers of Our Lord have faith. After they had encountered Jesus, listened to His words, and witnessed His wonderful deeds, they came to believe that He is the Holy One sent by God. They have come believe that He had the words of eternal life. We are called to have that same faith. We are also following Jesus. At every Mass, we are hearing the stories of His ministry. We are hearing His teachings. And just like St. Peter and the apostles, we have to make a decision about who Jesus is to us. Having faith in Jesus is not just agreeing with a set of statements about Jesus. Having faith means following Him. It means giving your life to Him. Our Lord tells us that we must deny ourselves. That means that we may have to give up our own our priorities, our own comforts, our own ways of doing things if they are not in accord with God s plan for you. Our Lord reminds us that we must to deny ourselves, and we have to take up our cross. What is the cross for you? The cross is the sign of Christ s love for us. He gave His life on the cross. So when Jesus says we have to take up our cross giving our lives in a way so that we share in His mission, which is the mission of His Church. It is a treasure, a real gift to have faith and to be able follow Our Lord Jesus! It is a beautiful and meaningful way to live! Faith is a journey that we are making with Jesus. Faith means spending time with Him. Faith means we see the world with His eyes, speak to the world with His voice, and listen with His ears. To have faith means that we share in His mission of love for all peoples. Faith means that we make Jesus our way of life. And this way of life, the way of the cross, is a way of love that gives life. As St. James tells us: faith without works is dead. It is not really faith at all. So we need to show our faith by imitating Jesus, by doing everything out of love out of love for God and out of love for our neighbors. Faith is not a theory or a just a mindset. Faith is lived in outward expressions. We have to express our love in feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, welcome the poor and lift up the downcast. Dear Parishioners of St. Joan of Arc, Thanks to you, many adults have inquired into what it means to live the Gospel way of life, fully initiated in the Catholic Church. The first minister of Christian initiation is not the pastor or a priest or a parish staff member, but the entire parish community as a whole. Thank you St. Joan of Arc for witnessing to your relationship with Christ and his Church, and helping others to grow in faith! According to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, the initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized. We need your help! Specifically, I am looking for help in two areas: Ministers of hospitality. Do you enjoy organizing social events and serving others? If you do, I could use your help for our Catechetical Sessions which begins in mid-september (Sessions are typically held on Sundays, 8:15-10:15 am). Individuals or married couples as sponsors. If you are interested in sharing your faith and helping others to grow in theirs through word, community, prayer and service, then consider sponsoring someone through the ministry of Christian initiation. It consists of 40 days of prayer to end abortion. The biggest component is praying outside of abortion clinics. The Phoenix location is Family Planning Associates at 7th St. and McDowell. St. Joan of Arc will be hosting a parish vigil day on Sat. Oct 6th from 6am to 2pm. Spirit of Hope Bereavement Spirit of Hope Bereavement Ministry will meet on Sunday, October 14 at Gomes Center at 2:00pm If you have had the loss of a loved one, a spouse, child, friend, or other family member, we welcome you. VINCENT DE PAUL MINI FOOD DRIVE On October 14 & 15 St Vincent de Paul will be hosting a MINI FOOD DRIVE. We are asking for just three food items: jelly, hamburger helper, and tuna. These are the food items that we always have to purchase. Volunteers will be outside the church doors before all Masses collecting your donations. Please bring these food items to help stock our pantry shelves, Monetary donations will also be accepted at the time. Thank you for your continued support of St Vincent de Paul. 8 EL 25 DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO 23 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 2018 DE PADRE KLINE Quién dices que soy? (parte II de II) Queridos hermanos y hermanas, Muchas personas han compartido conmigo sus pensamientos sobre Jesús y su Iglesia. No estoy seguro de que importe tanto lo que las personas piensan acerca de Jesús o su Iglesia. Creo que lo que más le importa a Nuestro Señor es que USTEDES desean conocerlo, amarlo y seguirlo. Entonces, cuando alguien lo pregunta, puedes decir como Pedro: Jesús es el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente. Cómo pudo San Pedro responder la pregunta de Nuestro Señor como lo hizo? Recuerde que Pedro y los apóstoles tuvieron una respuesta diferente a las personas en las multitudes. Por qué? Porque los verdaderos seguidores de Nuestro Señor tienen fe. Después de que se encontraron con Jesús, escucharon Sus palabras y fueron testigos de Sus maravillosas obras, llegaron a creer que Él es el Santo enviado por Dios. Han venido a creer que tuvo las palabras de la vida eterna. Estamos llamados a tener la misma fe. También estamos siguiendo a Jesús. En cada misa, estamos escuchando las historias de su ministerio. Estamos escuchando Sus enseñanzas. Y al igual que San Pedro y los apóstoles, tenemos que tomar una decisión sobre quién es Jesús para nosotros. Tener fe en Jesús no es solo estar de acuerdo con una serie de declaraciones acerca de Jesús. Tener fe significa seguirlo. Significa darle tu vida a él. Nuestro Señor nos dice que debemos negarnos a nosotros mismos. Eso significa que podemos tener que renunciar a nuestras propias prioridades, nuestras propias comodidades, nuestras propias formas de hacer las cosas si no están de acuerdo con el plan de Dios para usted. Nuestro Señor nos recuerda que debemos negarnos a nosotros mismos, y debemos tomar nuestra cruz. Cuál es la cruz para ti? La cruz es el signo del amor de Cristo por nosotros. Él dio Su vida en la cruz. Entonces, cuando Jesús dice que debemos tomar nuestra cruz, dando nuestras vidas de manera que compartamos su misión, que es la misión de su Iglesia. Es un tesoro, un verdadero regalo para tener fe y para poder seguir a Nuestro Señor Jesús! Es una forma hermosa y significativa de vivir! La fe es un viaje que estamos haciendo con Jesús. La fe significa pasar tiempo con él. La fe significa que vemos el mundo con sus ojos, hablamos al mundo con su voz y escuchamos con sus oídos. Tener fe significa que compartimos su misión de amor para todos los pueblos. La fe significa que hacemos de Jesús nuestro camino de vida. Y esta forma de vida, el camino de la cruz, es una forma de amor que da vida. Como Santiago nos dice: la fe sin obras está muerta. No es realmente fe en absoluto. Entonces, debemos mostrar nuestra fe imitando a Jesús, haciendo todo por amor, por amor a Dios y por amor a nuestro prójimo. La fe no es una teoría o simplemente una forma de pensar. La fe se vive en expresiones externas. Tenemos que expresar nuestro amor al alimentar a los hambrientos, visitar a los enfermos, darles la bienvenida a los pobres y levantar a los abatidos. Demostramos o mostramos nuestra fe en Jesús trabajando en amor para amar. Al recibir la Santísima Eucaristía en cada Misa, pida la gracia para creer realmente que Jesús está presente. Sepa que Él está con nosotros como el Cristo en la Sagrada Comunión. Y pidamos la gracia para vivir realmente con fe en Él, porque Él es el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente. Dios bendiga, P.
