KLINE SJA Financial Report 2017 Dear Brothers and Sisters, Our Lord has blessed St. Joan of Arc parish with some very generous parishioners who enable our parish to continue to function in wonderful ways. Specifically, your generosity has enabled our parish debt to be paid down $83,918 in one year leaving us a debt of $206,862. Unfortunately, our plate collection and the Save Our Parish collections have both decreased a bit this year. The good news is that we have been able to cut back in other areas of spending so as to avoid financial loss. We have seen our parish increase in the total number of parishioners but the number of families who come to Mass regularly changes dramatically depending on the time of the year. The visitors to our fish fry helped us to profit over $20,000 from the fish fry this year. There have been a number of generous donations that have allowed us to update some major electrical issues, renovate one of our kitchens, replace a large broken water heater, and repair/upgrade the sprinkler/watering systems. Other areas where people contributed include the Memorial Bricks that pave the way along the Stations of the Cross, donations to the St. Michael Indian Mission, and the $22,000 raised to purchase a four wheel drive jeep for Fr. Thomas Cahill and the missionary sisters in India. The Knights of Columbus continued to contribute to our parish from their bingo profits and made generous donations to prolife efforts and our seminarians. They also offered a partial scholarship to our preschool. We were able to update some of our books for the Religious Education program this year. These are just some of the generous ways you have contributed to the building up of St. Joan of Arc parish. I am grateful for the big and small ways many of you give of yourself in service to one another, to our parish and to Our Lord. To show our appreciation, St. Joan of Arc is hosting an evening of fun and music at our Second Annual Music Festival on November 3 rd from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. I personally invite you to come with your whole family to enjoy some good music, food (more food trucks than last year), and fellowship. This bulletin also contains the 2017 Financial Report for St. Joan of Arc. The report gives important treasure information about the parish. Providing financial support for our parish is another component of Christian stewardship. Because of the rampant consumerism that surrounds us daily, sharing our treasure with the parish may be difficult for some. We are tempted to keep all the money for ourselves and, in the process, become more attached to things. 5 LITURGY Wednesday, November 1, is ALL SAINTS DAY and a HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. Masses will be at 8:30am in English and 6:00pm in Spanish. Thursday, November 2, is ALL SOULS DAY. Masses are as follows: 8:30am in English and 6:00pm in Spanish. From September 27 through through November 5, you are invited to join other Christians for 40 Days for Life 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. We need people to peacefully stand and pray during a 40-day vigil in the public right-of-way outside Family Planning Associates (at the corner of 7th St and Willetta), and also to help spread the word about this important community outreach. Again, prayer will occur at the clinic. If you are interested in praying at the clinic with other SJA parishioners on Friday mornings throughout the fall campaign or at our parish vigil day on Saturday October 14, please contact dconnolly@connollyassetmgmt.com. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION... WHY SHOULD I BE AN ADORER There are many reasons! Most importantly is to visit and spend time with Our Lord Jesus Christ who is ever present in the Holy Eucharist (also called the Blessed Sacrament). Like any relationship, what we put in is what we will get back and our Lord is not outdone in generosity! As a committed adorer you also have the amazing responsibility to keep the Lord not only company but also safe in the Adoration Chapel. Parishioners and others usually commit to an hour (or more) a week. Coming to adoration is a perfect way to draw ever closer to Jesus and to intensify our spiritual life. First Way Pregnancy Center needs a volunteer for one Saturday morning each month to help our clients who are pregnant women. On Saturdays the mothers-to-be attend education classes. We have diapers and other baby things for them after class. Your duties are to welcome women to class and then package and distribute the helpful baby items. Come join us in continuing the work of St. Katherine Drexel by adopting a family for the Christmas season. We have received the adoption forms back from the missions we serve: St Michael's Indian School community, St Mary's Mission and St, Anne's Mission. You have an opportunity to bring joy to a family by adopting either an Angel - one person who needs a gift - or a family which would include gifts and food. This collection on the next-to-last Sunday in October is a unique, global effort for the entire Church to provide for the building up of over one thousand local churches in Asia and Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Once a month you can find her behind the pantry desk providing assistance to those in need. In addition to volunteering at the pantry, Michelle puts her computer skills to work by maintaining a database roster of all our Vincentians. Michelle and her husband Dave (who is also a Vincentian) organizes and transfers the pantry client files at the start of each new year. 9 DE PADRE KLINE SJA Reporte Financiero 2017 Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas, Nuestro Señor ha bendecido nuestra parroquia de Sta. Juana de Arco con feligreses muy generosos que permiten que nuestra parroquia siga funcionando maravillosamente. Específicamente, su generosidad ha permitido que la deuda de nuestra parroquia disminuya $83,918 en un año y esto nos deja una deuda de $206,862. Desafortunadamente, nuestra colecta semanal y la colecta de Salva Nuestra Parroquia ambas han disminuido un poco este año. La buena noticia es que hemos podido recortar gastos en otras áreas para evitar pérdidas financieras. Hemos visto un incremento en el número total de feligreses pero el número de familias que vienen a Misa regularmente cambia de forma radical dependiendo de la época del año. Los visitantes de nuestro Fish Fry han ayudado a tener ganancias de más de $20,000 este año. Hemos recibido generosos donativos que permiten ponernos al día con cuestiones de electricidad, renovar una de nuestras cocinas, reponer el calentador de agua grande que se había roto, y reparar/mejorar el sistema de riego.
