KLINE The Holy Family Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Mary and Joseph did everything they could do to protect the Christ child. They had already dealt with so many hardships. The Holy Family then has to leave everything and move to a foreign country to avoid the king who wanted to kill Jesus. Jesus is just a week old and, already, there is trouble. Surely there was another way! Couldn't God have somehow just "taken care" of Herod? Why did the Holy Family have to suffer so much? I think most of us have asked ourselves the same question especially when there is a family crisis or a tragedy. It can be a real test of our faith comes when we come face to face with some sort of injustice or undeserved illness, some crisis in our family -- an unexpected death, an accident, someone slanders us, our health or we lose our job. It can be very easy to feel like God has forgotten about us. In those dark moments, we find ourselves asking the question again: why was this necessary? Could God have made it work out differently for Mary and Joseph and Our Lord? Yes, God could have bumped off Herod and solved one of Mary and Joseph's problems, but He didn't. Our Lord knew it was necessary. Our Lord knew that they needed to experience a time of total dependence and trust on God. Yes, it seems as though even Mary and Joseph had to experience difficulties and they had to trust that God would take care of them! All wisdom for us ultimately lies at the foot of the cross. Because Our Lord has suffered so much for us, we in turn can suffer for Him. Our Lord gives meaning to our sufferings. Even before we understand why suffering is necessary, we are comforted by the fact that Our Lord's suffering has meaning. It is at the foot of the cross that we will find the answers we need in this life. As we approach the New Year of 2018, I pray that you and your family will not be distracted by earthly pursuits and will know the blessing of hope as authentic hope cannot disappoint us. Hope is the promise of true and lasting happiness. Of course, during this New Year, we will have need to come together as family and support one another, particularly if times continue to be difficult. We will, as usual, provide many opportunities that will help sustain us in that authentic hope. I encourage you to participate regularly and often in the many activities our parish offers. For in the end, hope does not remain stagnant. Either hope will grow or your hope will become more halfhearted. Let us pray that Jesus will increase our hope and that we will, through our unshakable hope, be a light which burns for our own sake and for the sake of others. Also, there will be NO 6:00P Mass on that day. The campus will be closed on Monday, January 1, and will reopen at 9:00am on Tuesday, January 2. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION... Thank you so much for the prayers! It was definitely a blessed weekend. The five St Joan of Arc teens who went had an amazing experience and I m sure that if you see them around campus and ask them about the retreat, they will gladly share with you! Please continue to pray for Miguel, Sofia, Deahna, Sierra and Danny, as well as my core 9

8 LA SANTA FAMILIA DE JESÚS, MARÍA Y JOSÉ 31 DE DICIEMBRE DE 2017 DE PADRE KLINE La Sagrada Familia Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, María y José hicieron todo lo que pudieron hacer para proteger al Cristo niño. Ya habían tenido que lidiar con tantas dificultades. La Sagrada Familia entonces tiene que dejar todo y mudarse a un país extranjero para evitar al rey, que quería matar a Jesús. Jesús tiene solo una semana y ya hay problemas. Seguramente había otra manera! No podría Dios haberlo "Protegido" de Herodes de alguna manera? Por qué la Sagrada Familia tuvo que sufrir tanto? Creo que la mayoría de nosotros nos hemos hecho la misma pregunta, especialmente cuando hay una crisis familiar o una tragedia. Puede ser una prueba real de nuestra fe cuando nos encontramos cara a cara con algún tipo de injusticia o enfermedad inmerecida, alguna crisis en nuestra familia: una muerte inesperada, un accidente, alguien nos calumnia, nuestra salud o perdemos nuestro trabajo. Puede ser muy fácil sentir que Dios se ha olvidado de nosotros. En esos momentos oscuros, nos encontramos haciendo esa pregunta de nuevo: por qué era esto necesario? Podría Dios haber hecho que todo fuera diferente para María, José y Nuestro Señor? Sí, Dios podría haber eliminado a Herodes y haber resuelto uno de los problemas de María y José, pero no lo hizo. Nuestro Señor sabía que era necesario. Nuestro Señor sabía que necesitaban experimentar un tiempo de total dependencia y confianza en Dios. Sí, parece que incluso María y José tuvieron dificultades y tuvieron que confiar en que Dios los cuidaría. Toda la sabiduría para nosotros finalmente se encuentra al pie de la cruz. Debido a que Nuestro Señor había sufrido tanto por nosotros, a su vez podemos sufrir por él. Nuestro Señor da sentido a nuestros sufrimientos. Incluso antes de comprender por qué es necesario el sufrimiento, nos reconforta saber que el sufrimiento de Nuestro Señor tenía un significado. Es al pie de la cruz que encontraremos las respuestas que necesitamos en esta vida. A medida que nos acercamos al Año Nuevo de 2018, rezo para que usted y su familia no se distraigan con actividades terrenales y conozcan la bendición de la esperanza, ya que la auténtica esperanza no puede decepcionarnos. La esperanza es la promesa de la felicidad verdadera y duradera. Por supuesto, durante este nuevo año, tendremos que unirnos como familia y apoyarnos mutuamente, especialmente si los tiempos siguen siendo difíciles. Como de costumbre, brindaremos muchas oportunidades que lo ayudarán a mantenerse en esa auténtica esperanza. Los animo a participar regularmente y con frecuencia en las muchas actividades que ofrece nuestra parroquia. Porque al final, la esperanza no permanece estancada. O la esperanza crecerá o tu esperanza se volverá menos entusiasta. Recemos para que Jesús aumente nuestra esperanza y que, a través de nuestra esperanza inquebrantable, seamos una luz que arda por nuestro bien y por el de los demás. Si tú crees que eres llamado a ser anunciador del Niño Dios a otros como sacerdote o religioso/a, visita o llama Regreso a los católicos que regresan: ETIQUETA DE MASA... Un recordatorio para todos nuestros feligreses y visitantes de que se debe usar "vestimenta apropiada" cuando asistan a Misa. Será apreciado si no usa pantalones cortos, minifaldas, blusas sin mangas, camisetas sin mangas, tirantes con tirantes de espagueti / vestidos (sin un encubrimiento) o tiene el estómago descubierto en la iglesia. No importa cento tiempo haya estado fuera, puede volver a casa. Visite Además, por favor mantén todos hablando en la iglesia al mínimo y no envíes mensajes de texto durante la Misa.
