3 OUR LADY OF CALVARY RETREAT CENTER 60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OLC IN STORY AND OBJECT SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, :00 AM 1:30 PM All are invited to reflect on the vision that gave rise to the ministry and has inspired it all along the way. The program will tell the story using objects, pictures and narrative. The process will be interactive and fun. If you have yet to make a pledge or a donation to the Annual Parish Appeal, please take the opportunity to do so at your earliest convenience so that we may assess which projects we will undertake immediately. Blair has decreed that in every parish of the archdiocese at least one hour each week be devoted to public adoration of the Eucharist. Therefore, starting on Monday, October 15 th and every Monday thereafter, excluding holidays there will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at Assumption Church from two o clock until the conclusion of the evening novena service. Please try to set aside at least one hour to spend with the Lord in prayer for the special intentions requested by the archbishop: an increase in priestly vocations, the success of the archdiocesan synod, and healing for our suffering Church. 6 The ST. VINCENT DE PAUL COLLECTION will take place this weekend. In the past 3 months the St. Vincent de Paul Society has helped 22 families in need, spending over $6000 to provide assistance with utilities, food, clothing, shelter, travel, auto maintenance and other needs. With the State s current financial situation, the need for help is greater than ever. We ask that you continue to be as generous as you have been previously so that we can reach out to those less fortunate. Thank you. Pope Leo XIII personally started the practice of devoting October to the Rosary devotion. In a letter of September 1, 1883, mindful of the Rosary's power to strengthen faith and foster a life of virtue, he outlined the triumphs of the Rosary in past times and admonished the faithful to dedicate the month of October to the Blessed Virgin through the daily recitation of her Rosary in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, in order to obtain through her intercession the grace that God would console and defend His Church in her sufferings. For more info call Cara The Knights of Columbus Museum commemorates the 100th anniversary of the United States participation in the war with an exhibition, World War I: Beyond the Front Lines (April 6, 2017-December 30, 2018). The exhibition provides an historical retrospective of the war and includes interactives, images and artifacts from the Knights of Columbus Museum collection, Supreme Council archives and borrowed materials from private lenders and organizations. A series of WWI-related lectures and presentations will be offered throughout the course of the exhibition.
