1 1 Ruabon News Letter Star Pupils Teach AM How to Stay Safe Online St.Mary's Church in Wales Primary School Ruabon held a school assembly last month with special guests. They were Ken Skates AM, Henry Platten who founded the Cadets company five years ago and pupils, staff and parents from neighbouring Eyton and Rhostyllen Primary Schools. Ken Skates awarded the ecadets from Eyton, Rhostyllen and St.Mary's with certificates for their excellent esafety work. He congratulated Henry Platten on his work and the ecadets on their super work! Ken Skates said: Safer Internet Day is about educating young people and encouraging them to recognise that good habits start with them. We want them to be able to make the most of the many positive opportunities they can find online, but we also want children to have the knowledge and skills required to stay safe. Henry Platten said that these three Primary schools are in the top twelve ecadet schools in the UK and he is delighted by the positive impact the work is having in local schools. The ecadets at these schools have done amazing work in earning their school this coveted ecadet Centre of Excellence status for online safety and digital citizenship. The former police sergeant added: Top tips for staying safe online include using a safe search engine designed for kids such as If your child is under 13 and wants to use social media then make sure they use a safe kid-friendly platform like: Ken Skates and Henry Platten with St Mary s School Year 6 pupils: Isobel, Grace, Violet, Matthew, Joseph and Darcy Thank you to Ken Skates and Helen Probin of St Mary s School for sending in the photo and text for this article
