1 Trinity Lutheran Church Contemporary Worship Service May 5, :45 Service 25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ELCA WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE MUSIC BY - UMD CHAMBER SINGERS - (Directed by Dr. Stanley Wold) This group is a 15- to 18-voice ensemble selected from the parent ensemble, University Singers. Eligible students for both ensembles come from among all collegiate units on campus. While Chamber Singers often performs without a conductor, the director of the ensemble is Dr. Stanley Wold (who also is director of music at sister congregation, Gloria Dei). We give you thanks for your faithfulness to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and for the signs of your presence in this community of believers, Trinity Lutheran Church. Increase in us the spirit of faith and love, and make our fellowship an example to all believers and to all nations. GOSPEL: John 15:1-17 (Christ the friend and lover) 15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Send your Holy Spirit to teach and remind us of the ways of your love. Shape the church by your word and guide the proclamation of your grace for the sake of the whole world. C) You mercy is great. L) We give thanks to you for the members and the ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA): for those who had the vision to begin its life together, those who sustain its present ministry, and those who will carry its mission forward into the future. C) Your mercy is great. L) Reveal to us the splendor of creation and inspire gratitude in our hearts for the yield of the earth. Show us your ways of abundance and healing for the sake of our world.
