2 Page 2 April 9, 2017 Fr. Ray s Message Palm Sunday - The Passion of the Lord The Holiest of Weeks Do we realize just how much Jesus truly loves each and every one of us? Have we really taken to heart the immense love that our Lord has for you and me? Perhaps we ve heard it time and again: Jesus loves you! Perhaps this is the first time we re hearing - Jesus loves you! - make a difference at the core of our being. Perhaps we ve never believed it before. Today, believe how true those three simple words - Jesus loves you - really are! On this Palm Sunday, we enter into the holiest week of our lives as disciples of Jesus. We are plunged into the Mysteries of Jesus passion, crucifixion, death, and resurrection. All of which took place for one simple reason: Jesus loves you! As we enter into this Holy Week, commit, once again, our lives to Jesus commit, once again, our lives to receiving His love and sharing it with others. Blessed Holy Week, Fr. Tal vez lo hemos escuchado una y otra vez: Jesús te ama! Tal vez esta es la primera vez que escuchamos - Jesús te ama! - escucharlo marca la diferencia en nuestro corazón y en nuestro ser. Tal vez antes nunca lo hemos creído. Pero hoy, creen lo verdaderas que son esas tres sencillas palabras - Jesús te ama! En este Domingo de Ramos, entramos en la semana más sagrada de nuestras vidas como discípulos de Jesús. Estamos sumidos en los Misterios de la pasión de Jesús, la crucifixión, la muerte y la resurrección. Todo esto tuvo lugar por una sencilla razón: Jesús te ama! Al entrar en esta Semana Santa, comprometamos una vez más nuestras vidas a Jesús... comprometamos una vez más nuestras vidas para recibir Su amor y compartirlo con los demás. St. Serra Church is located at th St West, Lancaster Holy Thursday, April 13 th Bilingual Mass begins at 7:30 pm (washing of the feet). Immediately after Mass, there will be the Procession of the Eucharist to the Kennedy Hall. The Eucharist will be exposed for prayer until 11:00pm in the Hall. City of Saints We would like to invite teens who are entering 9th grade thru 12th to attend the annual Teen Conference- City of Saints!. About What is City of Saints Teen Conference? City of Saints Teen Conference is a Catholic teen conference hosted by Archbishop Jose Gomez and the Youth Ministry Division in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This event is a wonderful and local opportunity for young people to deepen their relationship with Jesus. The conference will feature dynamic speakers, liturgical experiences, music, and more, set in an atmosphere where teens can learn about and experience the Eucharist and the beauty of the Catholic faith with its rich symbols and traditions. Why City of Saints? The theme City of Saints reminds us that we live in a city named after saints, not only Los Angeles, but also Santa Monica, San Pedro, San Fernando, Santa Barbara, etc. We remember that all teens are called to be saints in our cities. This conference will help these young people express this sainthood in their everyday lives. Goal Deepen their relationship with Jesus; Learn more about their Catholic faith; Discover what it means to be Saints in their own cities; Become closer as a parish group and meet other teen Catholics from around the Archdiocese of Los Angeles The cost of the conference is $275 (held annually at UCLA). August 4-6. The fee includes: conference fee $210 + bus transportation, t-shirt, and parish expenses. This is an excellent Confirmation gift. Sponsors can also help with expenses as their gift to their candidate! We reserved 35 spaces for teens to attend. Last year we took 32 teens to this conference! 5 Ministry News Page 5 Women s Weekend Retreat April 28 30, 2017 Sacred Heart Retreat House, Alhambra Join us for a women s weekend retreat with Rev. Msgr. Eugene Morris, STL, Retreat Master, April 28 30th. During the retreat, you will have opportunities to attend Mass, Adoration, and conferences given by Rev. Msgr. Eugene Morris. You will also have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spend quiet moments in personal prayer and reflection in the Chapel or in the beauty of the outdoor gardens. The retreat begins Friday evening at 5:00pm, it will conclude after Mass on Sunday. There will be five meals included with this retreat beginning with dinner on Friday, concluding with breakfast on Sunday. Come, pray the Pro-Life Rosary every Thursday in the Family Chapel in the Church 12noon - 1:00pm. Free books are available. We help make good marriages better. Seeing Christ Clearly We start today looking through the portals of Jerusalem, seeing crowds of people, cheering and waving palm branches in the air. The whole atmosphere is one of joy, triumph, and celebration. We can get distracted or enthralled by the scene, and not see clearly the features of Jesus as he enters. But our readings from Isaiah and Paul's letter to the Philippians clarify his features for us. He is the Suffering Servant, meek and mute before his captors and persecutors; he is the very image of the unseen God, yet will not clutch at equality with God before he endures his final confrontation in humility. Isaiah and Paul help us "behold the Lamb of God" before we hear the story of his final and greatest confrontation. It is important that we see Christ clearly before we hear the account of his passion, for we--his Body through baptism, the church--now bear his face. We must, with him, enter into this time of trial so we can, also with him, enter into his final triumph.
