3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Parishioners, The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, There is nothing permanent except change. Change is what our diocese and parish is addressing through the process we have called Faith in our Future. Changes we would much prefer to avoid or defer to another time will have to be made sooner than later as we adjust to the fact that with the departure of Fr. Carter, our parish will have two resident priests. This weekend we shall be considering a new mass schedule. Few, if any, would find such a change desirable but I hope that in light of new circumstances, we can make this adjustment well. At all our Masses, everyone will have the opportunity to choose between two schedules. I am grateful to the priests, deacons, staff, and pastoral council members who considered various schedules before narrowing these down to the two presented at the Masses this weekend. Thanks for your understanding, support, and loyalty. Enjoy these remaining summer days! With affection, Msgr. Tom Gervasio Stewardship Report Weekly Collection: August 14 $16,950 Diocesan Collection $1,459 Summer project as of 8/14/16 $27,786 OLS School Wants YOU! 4 Celebration on Sunday, September 18 Our Lady of Sorrows Our Solemnity Mary our Patron and Titular Thursday, September 15, is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. However, since Our Lady under this title is the co-patron of our parish, this Memorial is raised to the rank of "Solemnity" within our community. Since Mary is also the "titular" of our parish church, which is to say that the church building has been dedicated or given the title of Our Lady of Sorrows, we are permitted to move the celebration to Sunday, September 18. All Masses of the day will be celebrated as the rank of a "Solemnity." The parish will continue the celebration at the Parish Picnic following the 11:00 Mass. Kudos! Congratulations to Notre Dame Class of 2016 member Nicole Csorgo, a 2012 graduate of Our Lady of Sorrows School, who received scholarships from both the Hungarian Civic Association and the Italian American Association, as well as Academic Honors for Legal Issues from Notre Dame, Academic Honors for AP French, and Academic Honors from the National Honor Society. Keep Us Posted We Care! Whether you registered as a parishioner seven years ago or seven times seven years ago, things change. Your household grows as you welcome babies; it shrinks as your adult children move out to pursue a career. Elderly parents may move in with you or someone in your family may need to be moved to a skilled nursing care facility. You may upsize or downsize, moving within or out of the parish boundaries. We care about the changes in your life, so please keep us informed if one of your loved ones is hospitalized or moves into assisted living or a nursing home. Let us know when you re moving we may not join your painting party, but we will update our records. And please explain to your children that once they re out of your home and living independently, they need to register on their own. This is a simple task but is very helpful when the time comes to request a letter of eligibility to serve as a sponsor for baptism and/or confirmation as well as letters of reference or recommendation. Coming Soon Thought-Full Thursday Series Fall 2016 The Thought-Full Thursdays Program is a series of presentations designed to enlighten the faithful and provide an opportunity for spiritual growth and development. One session will be designed for a panel of clergy and other theological educators to answer questions about the Church. Please join us for the Thought-Full Thursdays Program for the fall of 2016, which will start at the end of September and run through October. Look for more information in future bulletins.
