Holy Eucharist for the Homebound Bereavement Counseling Annulment Process Information RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS - If you want to join the Catholic Church or complete your sacraments of initiation (First Eucharist and/or Confirmation), join us for the RCIA. Weekly classes begin each September. LOW-GLUTEN (0.01%) HOSTS - We provide lowgluten hosts for those with Celiac Disease. Please inform the priest or deacon prior to the celebration of Mass; at communion time, approach the priest celebrant who will have this sacred host. SANCTUARY MEMORIALS - Weekly sanctuary lamps or flowers for Masses may be requested in memory of a loved one or to mark a special occasion. The cost of a lamp is $15; floral arrangements are $75. Please visit the parish office at least a week in advance, so that the dedication may be included in the bulletin. 3 From the Pastor s Desk Dear Parishioners, Over the last few months, as you may know, our parish has been participating in a diocesan-wide process called, Faith in our Future. It is process of consultation with parishes and various apostolates of the diocese to develop a strategy for the work of the Church in years to come. Its goals and the progress we have made so far are described in this week s bulletin insert. Please take time to read it. Parishes in the Diocese are grouped in various cohorts to determine the most effective models for leadership and ministry in light of the many challenges we face decline in Mass attendance, impending priest retirements, and effective stewardship of parish resources. Our parish is part of Cohort 6, composed of our community as well as St. Gregory the Great, St. Raphael-Holy Angels, St. Vincent DePaul, and St. John the Baptist, Allentown. The surveys you recently completed were part of Faith in Our Future. Please pray for this process as we finalize a number of recommendations to the diocesan commission. Next week, we celebrate the great Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, often called Corpus Christi or Corpus Domini. It is a feast whose aim is to help us more deeply appreciate the great gift of the Holy Eucharist and to render the Lord in His Real Presence fitting honor. Please join us for a Eucharistic Procession that will conclude the 10:00 am Mass at St. Anthony. It is one way we can solemnly render to our Lord the homage that is His due. I would like to maintain a custom of having a Eucharistic Procession on Corpus Christi at St. Anthony Church and another on the Feast of Christ the King at Our Lady of Sorrows. Pasta Dinner this Sunday Knights of Columbus Council 6213 will sponsor a pasta dinner at their Council home (Columbus Hall, 1451 Klockner Road, Hamilton) on Sunday, May 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. Proceeds to council programs and Marine Corps League Warrior Assistance Fund, which assists local veterans of all branches of the Armed Forces. Enjoy pasta, salad, roll, dessert, a glass of wine or beer, and soda/coffee/tea dinner with friends and help those in need. Dinner cost is $10; $5 for children ages 6-10; age 5 and under eat free. Watch future bulletins for more information. Religious Education Registration It is time to register your children for Religious Education classes for the school years. We look forward to seeing all of you. Please remember that certain sessions fill up quickly, so early registration is highly recommended. We can more easily accommodate your preference if you register promptly. We have a special offer for early registration. Please check the letter which we mailed with the registration forms. If you did not receive it, please call us at For your convenience, all registration forms are available on the OLS-SA website ( You may print the registration form and mail or bring it to the Parish Office. Please note that if you have a Pre-K or Kindergarten student entering Religious Education classes, please print the registration form from the website or call our office to register your child. Seniors Activities Senior Club #1 Senior Club #1 will be having their end of the season luncheon on Wednesday, June 15, starting at 12:30 p.m. Luncheon will be at Padrino's Restaurant on Kuser Road. Flyers have been given/sent to all members. If you have not already done so, please send your response by June 3 to Marietta Garton. This takes the place of our regular meeting. Senior Club #2 Next meetings: Tuesdays, June 7 & 21 1 p.m. in the OLS Church Meeting Room The next bus trip to Resorts Casino is on June 1.The bus leaves the OLS parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Any one age 21 or older is invited. 5 Exciting News from Your Parish School "Elvis Has Left the Building," but Jesus hasn't! 'Elvis has left the building' was often used at the end of an Elvis concert to disperse the crowds. As we know, Jesus will never leave the building and our Second Grade students vividly experienced this! Since early January, the children have been carrying their "Flat Jesus" with them everywhere they go. At times, they have even shared Jesus with friends and family to accompany them on trips and outings. Well where did Flat Jesus go? Here are just a few of the places that Jesus was present: He enjoyed a long weekend in Vegas. Jesus even stopped for a picture with Elvis! He found Paris a beautiful hotel experience. Jesus stopped by for a haircut at a local shop after bowling. He took the winter chill away with a quick trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Jesus spent some time exploring history in Tuckerton and Colonial Williamsburg. Shopping was great at Freehold Mall with Jesus by their side. We discovered that Jesus enjoyed Taco Tuesday. Wegman s salad bar was inviting with Jesus. Zip lining in St. Thomas was great with Jesus! Jesus accompanied the United Airlines flight crew on board! There was Kung Fu class with Jesus and He loved Texas Roadhouse dining. Jesus is an active part of all of our lives, and our Second Graders had a great time sharing their experiences with Jesus by their side. Now, for some real fun, stop by your parish school to see the beautiful posters the children created with their adventures with Flat Jesus! (See page 10 for a few photos.) I promise, they will make you laugh, they will make you cry, but most of all you will see just how present Jesus is in their lives! Second Grade received signed responses from Linda Greenstein, 14 th Legislative District Senator. Senator Greenstein assured them she had read their messages of support for school nursing and services for children attending non-public schools. I m sure Senator Greenstein would like to hear your support as well for services to our children. You can let your voice be heard using: Respond 5 You are invited to place the names of your loved ones who gave their lives for our freedom in one of the parish's Books of Remembrance, located by Our Lady s statue in Our Lady of Sorrows and at the Altar of Remembrance in St. Anthony. Clean Out Your Closets; Clear Out Your Clutter The Social Justice Committee of Our Lady of Sorrow s - St. Anthony is holding a clothing and housewares drive at Our Lady of Sorrows this weekend to benefit Catholic Charities and will hold one at St. Anthony on the weekend of June 4-5. Housewares Drive Examples of housewares needed include: dishes, pots & pans, silverware, drinking glasses, kitchen gadgets & utensils, sheets, blankets, bedspreads, curtains, and small appliances (in excellent working condition). You may bring your donations of new or gently used clothing and housewares to the garages at Our Lady of Sorrows this weekend, or to the shed in the parking lot at St. Anthony on June 4 or 5. The Catholic Charities truck will pick up items on the Monday morning after the collection at each Church. Please note that Catholic Charities cannot accept any large furniture items. If you would like to make a monetary donation, make the check payable to OLS-SA, write Catholic Charities on the notation line, and put it in an envelope clearly marked Catholic Charities. You're Invited The New Jersey Council of Churches will sponsor a Study Day on Laudato Si : On Care of Our Common Home at The Church of Saint George, 1370 River Road (29N) in Titusville on Saturday, June 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The program's facilitators, Fr. Vincent Gartland and Deacon Larry Gallagher, will provide an overview of the encyclical, an opportunity for reflection and discussion on various chapters, and an opportunity to join in prayer for the environment. Enjoy also some quiet reflective time along the Delaware. This should be a great opportunity to join with friends of other faith traditions concerned about the environment. Rosary Altar Society News Corporate Sunday (Sunday, June 5) All parishioners are invited to join us at St. Anthony s Church at 9:30 a.m. for recitation of the Rosary for world peace, an end to abortion, an end to terrorism, the intentions of the Pope and the personal intentions of all those present. Celebration of the Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. June Meeting and Dinner (Monday, June 6) Our last meeting of the season will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the installation of Officers in the Upper Church. I was thirsty and you gave me drink, Matthew 25:35 Loaves and Fishes Saturday, June 25 The Loaves and Fishes Community of the Diocese of Trenton serves meals on the last two Saturdays of every month all year long at St. Mary's Cathedral in Trenton. Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony will host the meal on Saturday, June 25. We will be serving dinner for more than 600 guests. OLS School PTA will provide the supplies for bagged lunches, which we will be assembling on Friday, June 24, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Volunteers are needed for this event. We REALLY need volunteers to serve at the Cathedral on Saturday! Can you spare just a few hours out of one day to serve Jesus? There are several ways you can help. You can work behind the scenes in the kitchen or serve the guests directly, and several time slots are available: 10 helpers to serve bagels and coffee at St. Mary s from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. 10 helpers to prepare the meal and work in the kitchen from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 30 helpers to serve the dinner guests from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 5 helpers to serve at the second station in the cafeteria from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 6 helpers to prep the dessert from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 10 helpers to clean the kitchen from noon to 1:30 p.m. 10 helpers to clean the cafeteria and fold the tables from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Does your child need service hours? This is a great way to earn them! Is transportation an issue for you? Car pooling for adults is available.
