2 My dear family of St. Matthew! On the weekend of March 15-17, we will be welcoming our Bishop Daniel Conlon on his visit to our parish family of St. Matthew s. Yes the Bishop is coming!! The Bishop is coming!!! He has already visited over 100 parishes of our Diocese of Joliet, and we are toward the end of his goal to visit every parish family in our Diocese. You may remember, as I ve learned recently myself, that the planned visit of Bishop Conlon last year ended up being cancelled due to a temporary yet sufficiently significant enough sickness that prevented his visit for that particular weekend last year. But, hopefully, health will be good and stable for this planned visit coming up in less than a month! More information will be forthcoming soon regarding his schedule and his visit. Fundamentally, he really just wants to get a feel for and get to know our St. Matthew Parish life. We will take this opportunity of his visit also to install me as the new pastor of St. Matthew s, and again, more information will follow about that soon, but here, let me simply copy to you the letter of appointment I received from him after he had consulted those of the Personnel Board who help him in this process of appointing pastorshepherds in the various parish families which compose our one entire diocesan family. And so, on this, my fourth Sunday with you as Pastor of St. Matthew s, I praise the Lord! So, I encourage you, please read the letter Bishop Conlon wrote, giving me the new mission as Pastor of St. Matthew s for the next six years. His letter is a rich and beautiful statement of my call, through his hands, that comes directly from the heart of God. Blessings of shalom-peace and joy to each of you and your entire families! For your information, on February 28 th, catechetical leaders will be joined by Bishop Conlon at the Blanchette Catholic Center to discuss his recent pastoral letter, Go, He Said. Bishop Conlon will share his vision for a renewed missionary discipleship in the Diocese of Joliet. Part of the priest convocation in October will discuss missionary discipleship as well. Rev. 6 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Saint Matthew Council #9893 Feb 27 social / officers meeting at 7pm in the parish center Every gift to the CMAA makes a difference! The opening report for the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) in today s bulletin details the many ways our annual appeals helps us offer Signs of Hope of God s work here on earth. The CMAA supports 30 ministries that bene it so many throughout the Diocese of Joliet. As you will read in the opening report, gifts to the CMAA make a difference to members of our parish as well as friends and neighbors and our brothers and sisters in need. Please complete the pledge card you received from the Diocese of Joliet last month and return it in the provided envelope or bring it with you to Mass next weekend. Our parish s goal for the 2019 CMAA is $67,400. If we raise more than this goal, 70 percent of the amount over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is a great bene it for our parish! Thank you for prayerfully re lecting on your gift to this year s CMAA and making the most generous pledge possible. The Holy Family Candles are lit this week in Thanksgiving for George and Dolores Lasota, being offered by Roger and Sandy Davis....today you will be with me in Paradise. Luke 23:43 Statement from Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Concerning Theodore McCarrick I am gratified that the Holy See has acted to resolve the status of Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington. Dismissing him from the clerical state is a dramatic yet seemingly appropriate outcome. McCarrick s history how he continued to be promoted and held in regard and who knew of his crimes along the way still needs to be uncovered and made public. Appropriate care for his many victims also must be provided. I join many others in seeking God s assistance in bringing this painful chapter in the Church s history to a conclusion. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The first Monday of every month, St. Matthew Church volunteers host homeless clients at St. Isidore Ministry Center in Bloomingdale from 7 pm -7 am. A hot dinner, breakfast, and a bag lunch is provided to around 50 individuals each month. A Volunteer is needed for the 3-6 am shift, to provide a night presence, for early client wake ups, and to prepare coffee while in the company of another volunteer. Working and retired individuals have volunteered for this shift. Please contact Joan Sanew for more information at as soon as possible so it is filled before the March PADS. This volunteer opportunity is a great way for an individual or couple to directly impact the lives of those less fortunate in our community. Thanks for your consideration. 7 NO CAUSAR DAÑO Escuchamos por un buen rato antes de llegar a la culminación ingeniosa de la primera lectura de hoy: si bien hubiera sido fácil hacerlo, David no causará daño al ungido del Señor. Nosotros, por supuesto, sabemos que Jesús es el Mesías, el ungido de Dios, mas la Biblia usa ese término para distintas personas. Es la manera bíblica de indicar quién ha sido elegido por Dios para un lugar y misión especial dentro de la historia de la salvación. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús presenta una abultada lista de aquellos a quienes, por ser hijos de Dios, no debemos dañar, sino más bien amar: nuestros enemigos, los que nos maldicen o nos hacen daño, los que nos deben dinero, los ingratos, los malvados. El punto de la enseñanza de Jesús no es alentar esos tipos de comportamiento en otros, sino más bien formarnos a imagen de nuestro Padre celestial cuando incrementamos las oportunidades para amar incondicionalmente, sin esperar nada a cambio; ser misericordiosos y compasivo, aun cuando sería más fácil no serlo.
