While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend-not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, May 19, 2013 Perhaps the first Gift of the Holy Spirit is freedom from fear. What am I afraid of? Getting old? Making a mistake? Disappointing my family? Letting Jesus down? We are never alone in this adventure, with all its joys and terrors. The Spirit is with us always. Don t be afraid. 2 Dear Parishioner: Happy Mother s Day! This truly is an important day to remember the great gift we have in our mothers. A mother s love is often taken for granted and sometimes a mother may feel her efforts go unappreciated. So this day gives us a special opportunity to acknowledge and thank our dear mothers and to do so in a heartfelt way that demonstrates our deep appreciation. It is also an opportunity to remember in prayer our mothers who are no longer with us that they may now know and enjoy God s eternal embrace. Two of my favorite sayings about mother s capture what a mother s love includes: --A mother s love is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking; It never fails or falters, even though the heart is breaking. --And on the Seventh Day, God rested. And Mom took over!!! A sincere Happy Mother s Day to all the mothers and grandmothers of our parish! May God bless you today and always. ~Msgr. Luca P.S. Beginning today I will be leading a group of 45 parishioners on our annual pilgrimage this year to the Holy Land. We are scheduled to return on May 22 nd. Please know I will be remembering you and your intentions in the Masses I celebrate in these most holy sites. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK The only lightless dark is the night of ignorance and insensibility. We d like to suggest that you take the time now to prayerfully consider other obligations that your family may participate in this Fall and next Spring and make religious education class choices that will allow your child/children to attend class faithfully. Some of our optional programs: ACT NOW, WIRED, EDGE and Faith in the Family have a very limited number of spaces and registration for these programs will close once the spaces are full. If one of these optional programs is your family s first choice, you must register early or risk the chance of the program being full and your registration for these options not being accepted. If your child is currently enrolled in one of these programs, you are not guaranteed a spot next year. You must register early to secure a spot for the 2013~2014 religious education year. Registration for our Saturday morning elementary religious education classes and Monday evening middle and high school religious education classes is not limited and may be the only option available for families who choose to postpone registration. We recognize the importance of your family s faith formation. We commit to providing excellence in catechesis and thank you for partnering with us to assure consistent class attendance and a continued emphasis on the support and encouragement needed to form faith filled young Catholics. YOUTH MINISTRY Happy Mother s Day! May is a time for remembering our incredible mothers but also a season of proms and dating and beginning the wedding months. My Dad and Mom, married now for almost 60 years (!), recently sent the following elementary school kid s descriptions of marriage to me. Mom and Dad, thanks for your love and example over the years. I love you both! You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming. Alan, age 10 No person really decides before they grow up who they re going to marry. God decides it all the way before, and you get to find out later who you re stuck with. Kristen, age 10 Twenty three is the best age to get married because you know the person FOREVER by then. Camille, age 10 How can you tell if two people are married? You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids. Derrick, age 8 What do you think your Mom and Dad have in common? Both don t want any more kids. Lori, age 8 How would you make a marriage work? Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck. Ricky, age 10 What do most people do on a date? Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough. Lynnette, age 8 On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date. Martin, age 10 When is it okay to kiss someone? When they re rich. Pam, age 7 The law says you have to be 18, so I wouldn t want to mess with that. Curt, age 7 The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It s the right thing to do. Howard, age 8 I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY: May pm MS CYM Youth Council (Youth Room) May Confirmation Retreats.
