While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend-not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, April 8, 2012 The details in this account of The Empty Tomb are amazing. Those who witnessed the events wanted to make sure that not a single nuance was forgotten. A rolled-up face covering not the work of a thief who snatched and ran. The relationships between the women who followed Jesus, represented by Mary of Magdala, and the apostles. The respect shown Peter as Jesus hand-picked leader. And even for us today, seeing that Resurrection is not something one grasps immediately. It s a life-long coming to belief. HE IS RISEN! NO ONE and NO THING will ever be the same again. Alleluia! 2 Dear Parishioners: This Weekend we enter Holy Week the most important week of the Church s Liturgical Year which includes some of the most beautiful and meaningful celebrations of our Catholic Faith: Palm Sunday the day we vividly remember Jesus triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem as He was given a royal welcome with palm and olive branches. Monday the Mass of Chrism is celebrated at the cathedral with all bishops, priests and deacons of the Archdiocese gathered. At this Mass the three oils used throughout the year are blest by the Archbishop and then distributed to all the parishes. The names of the oils are: Chrism, the Oil of the Sick and the Oil of Catechumens. At this Mass priests renew their vows made on their Ordination Day. Holy Thursday the day we recall two Sacraments Jesus instituted: the Eucharist and Holy Orders. Only one Mass that day is celebrated at 7:30pm the Mass of the Lord s Supper. Good Friday the day we meditate on the price Jesus paid for our salvation and then venerate the Cross at a 3:00pm service called the Liturgy of the Lord s Passion. Also at 7:30pm the Stations of the Cross in tableau form and the veneration of the cross are scheduled. Holy Saturday at 7:30pm the great Easter Vigil formally proclaims the Lord s Resurrection and new life that Jesus came to offer us. At this unique celebration those preparing through the RCIA are received into the church through the initiation Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Baskets filled with Easter food are blest at 1:00pm in the church. Easter Sunday With great rejoicing we proclaim: this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad for the Lord is Risen. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! I encourage you to make this a truly holy week by entering into the spirit of this week and making an effort to attend one or all of these central celebrations of our Catholic Faith. ~Msgr Luca THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK For God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son! When you make plans for Easter Sunday, please consider Masses other than those at 9:30 am and 11:15 am. Last year, we had more than 1800 people at the 9:30 and almost 1650 for the 11:15. Other Masses were not filled to overflowing. If you have never experienced the Easter Vigil, for example, come on Holy Saturday evening, 7:30pm. It lasts a bit longer than a regular Sunday Mass, but it is the most AWESOME Mass of the Liturgical Year. Another suggestion: the Youth Band, which leads us in music each month at the CYM Mass, will share their musical gifts with the worshipers at the 12:45pm Mass. The earlier Masses on Easter Sunday, 6:30am (notice the earlier time) and 8:00am are less crowded as well. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IMPORTANT DATES FROM THE OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION April 7: No Saturday Morning Religious Education April 14: Saturday Religion Classes 9:00a.m April 21: Saturday Religion Classes 9:00a.m April 28: LAST DAY of Saturday Religious Education for this school year May 1: Registration begins for the school year! We ask for your prayers: During the month of May, about 163 of our children will share in an event of great joy for both them and our entire Catholic community. They will receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time. They and their families have been preparing for the celebration of this Sacrament for some time now. They have learned how sacred and precious the gift of the Eucharist is and what it means to share that gift with others. Our St. Louis family recognizes what a gift these children are to us and we ask for your prayers as we bring these two great gifts together Blessing for our First Communicants: Jesus Christ, Bread of Life, travel beside these children as they take their first steps to your table. Help them to recognize you in the words of Holy Scripture, in the Blessed Sacrament, in your people, and in themselves. Draw these children close to you so they may radiate your love to others. Amen. Vacation Bible School 2012 will be held the week of July 23 rd through July 27 th. Registration forms for both campers and youth volunteers are now available on our website reled. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Linda Jennings at ldjennings6@verizon.net, , or or Annette Lober at Annette.lober1@gmail.com, , or YOUTH MINISTRY Had the chance to head north towards Pennsylvania recently for a few hours of hiking. As I walked on the NCR trail from Parkton to Bentley Springs (about 6 miles round trip), I was really able to clear my mind and do some reflecting and praying. As is always the case with me, I became easily distracted, first by the gnats and then by the other people also on the trail. Then, I noticed something else. There were a lot of dead things! The trail was a graveyard for a mouse, a bird, a snake, and a squirrel, all within that 6 mile radius! It was a bit strange but, then, we are in strange times, huh? As the season lately changed to spring, we are once again seeing more signs of life. Nature and humans seem to come alive as the weather gets warmer and the colors change to green! And yet, here I am in the midst of death as well, reminding us about what we have left behind (mild though it was!). Hmmmm sounds a bit like the church season we are in too. I think this time of year (winter to spring and Lent to Easter) reveals to us the interconnectedness of death and life. Jesus, our Savior, could not go around death but we understand the new life of the Resurrection more because of it! As we approach this most holy of weeks, I ll be praying that you experience the fullness of life in Jesus and thank Him for his dying and rising! I LL BE PRAYING FOR YOU! Please pray for the 75 young people and adults who are participating in ReTweet: FOLLOW ME!, the annual Summit Lake retreat. They return Sunday, April 1.
