HOUSEHOLDS IN GOD S SERVICE In the ancient world, household was a widereaching concept. When Joshua today speaks of his household serving the Lord, he meant not just those people who lived inside his walls or those related to him by blood or marriage; he meant slaves or servants and their families, and anyone indebted to him in any way. Even his livestock and other possessions would be consecrated to service of God. In our world, we value allowing individuals their freedom to choose how they live, and wouldn t think of offering our pets to the service of God. But, as we discern our vocation as disciples baptized into Christ, we can come to realize how farranging the households of our lives still are: how we act toward our spouses, children, roommates or anyone we live with; our behavior with neighbors; or in public as we encounter many strangers every day in stores or traf ic who suddenly are next door to us. How can we use our time, our resources, or gifts for sel less reasons rather than personal gain? No matter what life our witness to the Good News calls us to, we all have a household that must be consecrated to service of the Lord our God. Copyright J. S. 8 Saturday, September 1 st is First Saturday. Rosary at 9:45 AM, and Mass in English at 10:15 AM. The parish of ice will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 3 rd. Many thanks to all who helped with the Seventh Catholic Farm Workers' Encounter on August 19th. This diocesan event was greatly strengthened by the generous participation of members of St. Mary parish in donating toiletries, preparing breakfast for the attendees, assisting with transportation and more. St. Mary's Youth Choir, The Choir of Angels, will resume rehearsals on Thursday, September 13 th from 7-8 PM in the choir loft. All 3 rd through 12 th grades are welcome. If you have not sung with us before, please bring a 3 ring binder to hold your music with your name on the binder and a pencil. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the irst rehearsal! Adult Education Opportunities Adult Faith Formation: All adults are invited to a class on basic Catholic studies in English on Sundays 11:30 am 1 pm. Anne and Roehl Santos lead this class. The class follows the children s calendar and begins September 9. Contact Roehl for information (roehlsantos@yahoo.com). Doorways: St. Mary Parish offers diocesan courses for adult education. Each course meets about once a month for 8 months. The schedule is built around our children s and catechist s faith formation schedule. Mollie Berry has been approved by the Bishop s of ice to teach two courses, Creed and Sacraments. Doorways Creed is $25 plus the textbook. Doorways Sacraments is $25 plus two textbooks. The courses are designed for any adult Catholic to further his or her knowledge. For information, contact Marie or Allison in the faith formation of ices. 8 Faith Formation Announcements Registration for the Faith Formation year continues through September 5. There is no registration after September 5. Classes begin September 9 and 10. Registration takes place in-person in the faith formation of ices. We do not accept ed or mailed registrations. Faith Formation of ice hours during Registration are on Mondays through Thursdays 9 AM - 4 PM and Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6 PM 8:30 PM. Families must register each year. We do not automatically carry a student from one school year to another. The fee is $70 for each child for each school year. A fourth child is only $30. A family may make a down payment of $30 for one child or $50 for the family of children. We need a baptism certi icate for each child registering for the irst Communion program. Con irmation 2 is $130 for the school year. Con- irmation 2 has a list of requirements before registering for the Con irmation 2 year. Contact the Youth Apostolate Coordinator for more information.
