Amen. Parish Launches Website The parish is pleased to announce the launch of its website www. stbridgethtdiocese.org. The website displays information about the parish including ministries, organizations, registration procedures, and contains links to the Daily Scripture readings and much more. Please visit it often. To have information added to the website, click on the Contact Us link under the About tab. The website should be up & running by the end of the month. Guidelines for Baptism Prior to baptizing a child, the parents and Godparents must attend a baptismal seminar. The next baptismal seminar will be held June 14, at 6:30 pm in the Annex. Those seeking to baptize a child can complete the registration forms in the church office Monday Friday between 8 am and 3 pm. The office must be made aware of the desire to baptize a child and desire to attend the seminar. The registration form can also be found at the parish website and ed to the parish through the Contact Us link. While the Church only requires one qualified Godparent for a child to be baptized, two Godparents may be chosen, although in this case one must be male and one female. Anyone who is to be a Godparent must meet the qualifications established by the Church, which are as follows. Godparents must have received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and be practicing Catholics, at least 16 years old who lead a life in harmony with the faith. If married, the proposed Godparents must be in a marriage recognized by the Church. If not married, they must not be simulating marriage by living with someone.

Francis Marion Crawford Weekly Activities Come Lord Jesus a scripture study focusing on the weekly gospel is held in the kitchen of Didier Hall on Mondays from 9:30 11 am. All are welcome. Contact Dianne Williams at for more information. The Seven Sorrows Rosary is prayed every Friday at noon in the Adoration Chapel. Praying the rosary helps recall the seven sorrows suffered by Mary during the life and death of Jesus. All are invited to join in this experience. THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM This seventh Sunday of Easter is somewhat like the proverbial calm before the storm. The Lord Jesus has ascended into heaven and Pentecost has not yet occurred. Rather than immediately taking up Jesus command to go out to all the nations, the disciples gather in the upper room with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers (Acts 1:14). There they all devote themselves to prayer. The Gospel recounts the great prayer for the disciples that Jesus offered to his Father in heaven. If the words of Jesus while he was on earth finally began to sink in for the disciples, then gathering to pray was certainly the right choice, for the second reading lets us all know that to follow Christ means to have a share in his sufferings. 4 Please continue to pray for the success of the Strategic Plan in St. Bridget Parish and the Diocese of Houma Thibodaux. The Strategic Plan will renew parishes and renew the diocese. It will make us disciples of Christ. Please pray for St. Bridget s Strategic Plan Implantation Team which meets twice monthly to pray, discern, and learn more about the plan. The Implementation Team members are Father Simon Peter, Amy Baudoin, Nicholas Billiot, Nina Billiot, Kellie Bishop, Claire Falgout, Annie Knight, Mary Louviere, Bernadette Mabile, Mark Olin, Mike Richard, and Sharon Pollet. For more information on the Strategic Plan including guidelines for prayer visit Adoration Chapel News The Adoration Chapel is almost complete. Father Simon Peter is making arrangements for Bishop Fabre to bless the chapel and officially open it soon. Perpetual Adoration means at least one person is praying in the chapel every hour. A perpetual adoration chapel is desired which means it would be opened 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Persons interested in becoming scheduled adorers should contact Bernadette at for more details. Currently, there are no scheduled adorers for the following times: Mondays from 6 pm to 9 am Tuesday Tuesdays from 7 pm to 6 am Wednesday Wednesdays from 8 pm to 5 am Thursday Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 am Friday Fridays from am and from noon on Saturdays and Sundays all day The following day time hours are also opened for adorers to commit to prayer: Monday 8 9 am; Tuesday 8 9 am, 12 1 pm, 2 4 pm; Wednesday 9-10 am, noon, 4 5 pm, 6 7 pm; Thursday am, and Friday am. If you cannot commit for an hour, maybe, you could spend some time with Jesus on Saturday or Sunday. Additional adorers are also welcomed for the hours that currently have people praying. We can never have too many people praying. Thanks to all who have helped with the renovations of the Chapel. Many have given time, treasure, and talent. Thanks to all who have volunteered to clean the chapel regularly. Listen, is the Lord calling you to spend time with Him in prayer? Think about it, pray about it, and give it a try. 5 CCD and Youth News VBS NEWS Hero Central God is Our Superhero! Thanks to the parents, catechists, and youth who have given time, treasure, and talent for VBS decorations. The City of God is being built the annex will be transformed! God, our Superhero is alive and well in Schriever! Thanks to all who have donated supplies for the 2017 Vacation Bible School program. Vacation Bible School will be held June 5 9, 2017 from 9 am to noon. Students entering Kindergarten 6th grade are welcome to attend. Registration forms for VBS are available at the main entrance of the church. Registration fees are $12 per day or $50 for the week. Please contact Bernadette with questions or if fees are an issue; sponsors may be available to help defer the cost of attendance. CCD News Thanks to all who give their time and talent to the CCD program. We are in need of teachers and helpers for grades Adults volunteering to help will be trained. The commitment is Monday evenings from 6:15 8:15 pm. The reward is heavenly! Please pray about becoming a member of the best CCD team in the diocese. CDA & KC News Rummage Sale Information! The annual Catholic Daughter Rummage Sale is Saturday, June 3rd in the Community Life Annex. The annex foyer is open beginning for donations of furniture, appliances, clothing, shoes, toys, baby items, etc. Please make sure the item donated is in sellable shape. Volunteers are needed to help with organizing items for sale beginning from 9 to noon and from 5:30 7:00 pm. Youth attending Steubenville on the Bayou are strongly encouraged to help with this worthy cause. Parishioners who have a little free time are also strongly encouraged to help. This is a great way to build community in our parish as well as help the needy in our area. Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month in the Annex. The organization is open to all men aged 18 and above. Please prayerfully consider joining the parish organization and serving the Lord. The next meeting is May 25th at 7pm. Catholic Daughters The Catholic Daughters of the Americas meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 pm in the Community Life Annex. The next meeting is June 8th. CDA does not meet in July and August. The organization is open to all Catholic women age 18 and above. All are invited to attend the next meeting and of course, help with the rummage sale.

The second part might be more difficult to comprehend. The stumbling block would be the book. We have a book, a missal that is set down on the altar with a very precisely prescribed set of words for the priest to say and the people to sing at the Eucharistic Prayer. In the early days of the church, there were no set formulas for this prayer. The ancients would have raised eyebrows at our bookishness since they preferred to let the prayers roll forth from a gifted leader of prayer. There was a basic shape to the prayer of thanksgiving, and almost general agreement that the words of Christ at the Last Supper ought to be included. By the second century, Justin Martyr wrote that the presider gives thanks at some length... and when he has finished the prayers and the thanksgiving, all the people present give their assent by saying Amen. In the world before books, people could memorize long passages of prose and poetry, and so it is easy to see how particular phrases or expressions passed from church to church. Rev. The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux will joyfully celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Pentecost Sunday, June 4, 2017, at a 2:00 PM Mass at the Cathedral of St. Francis de Sales.
