We thank you and praise God for your loyalty to Christ, your devotion to Mary Immaculate, your total surrender to the divine will. In the midst of painful trials, you had the courage to say: For Jesus Christ I am prepared to suffer still more. Generous to the end, you volunteered to lay down your life for a prisoner sentenced to die by starvation. With confidence in your power of intercession, we now present our needs to you. (Here mention your prayer request.) Obtain for us also to abide always in God s friendship, that we may glorify Him with you in heaven for all eternity. Amen.

6 Page 6 The Life of Jesus John 18:33b-37 Pilate said to Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered, "Do you say this on your own or have others told you about me?" Pilate answered, "I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here." So Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." ONE MINUTE MEDITATION Sincerely examine the way you are following the Master. Ask yourself if your self-surrender is of a dry, officious type, with a faith that has no sparkle to it; if there is no humility or sacrifice, nor any good works throughout your day; if you are all show and pay no attention to the details of each moment... In a word, if you lack Love. If this is the case, your ineffectiveness should come as no surprise to you. React right away, and be led by the hand of Our Lady. - St. Josemaria Escriva, The Forge #930 SUNDAY SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS Please feel free to drop in our weekly Sunday Reflection Group offered on Thursday from 1:00 2:30 P.M. in the Chapel. 7 Page 7 LIVES OF THE SAINTS Occasionally in this space will appear a short article covering the lives of the saints, especially with reference to those saints whose likeness appear on the stained glass windows in the church and chapel, or whose statue is present in the chapel area or the candle room area. LIVES OF THE SAINTS May the wisdom of the Saints inspire us in our daily lives: Nov 25 St. Catherine Laboure, Religious St. Catherine of Alexandria Nov 26 St. John Berchmans, Religious Nov 27 St. Maximus, Bishop St. Francesco Antonio Fasani Nov 28 St. James of the Marche, Priest Nov 29 St. Saturninus, Bishop & Martyr Nov 30 St. Andrew, Apostle Dec 1 St. Florence, Laywoman ST. CATHERINE LABOURE Religious St. Catherine Laboure was born on May 2, At an early age she entered the community of the Daughters of Charity, in Paris, France. Three times in 1830 the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure, who then was a 24-year old novice. On July 18th, the first apparition occurred in the community s motherhouse. St. Catherine beheld a lady seated on the left side of the sanctuary. When St. Catherine approached her, the heavenly visitor told her how to act in time of trial and pointed to the altar as the source of all consolation. Promising to entrust St. Catherine with a mission which would cause her great suffering, the lady also predicted the anticlerical revolt which occurred at Paris in On November 27th, the lady showed St. Catherine the medal of the Immaculate Conception, now universally known as the The Miraculous Medal. She commissioned St. Catherine to have one made, and to spread devotion to this medal. At that time, only her spiritual director, Fr. Aladel, knew of the apparitions. Forty-five years later, St. Catherine spoke fully of the apparitions to one of her superiors. She died on December 31, 1876, and was canonized on July 27, ST. FLORENCE Laywoman St. Florence was the daughter of a Roman colonist who was residing in Asia Minor on the road that led from Frigia in Seleucia. St. Hilary of Poitiers met her during a stop on his journey toward Seleucia where the Synod of 359 was to be held. Florence requested Baptism from the holy Bishop and followed him on his return to Poitou the next year. She then retired to Comble, Vienne, France, where she led the life of a hermit. She communed with God day and night, practicing much penance and combating the assaults of the devil. Finally worn out by her labors, she died in 366 at 29 years of age. Her relics were transferred to the Cathedral of Poitiers in the 11th century. A PRAYER FOR OUR COUNTRY O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to You from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded and that He along is the True Source o f o u r ch er i sh ed r ight s t o l i f e, liberty and pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Amen.

8 Page 8 Our Faith OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE Scripture is rich in the imagery it uses to unveil Jesus. He is Lord, Servant, Master, Friend, Teacher, Prophet, Healer, and more. There is a wonderful depth to the person and mission of Christ which the Spirit longs to reveal to those who seek it. It is like the delight of an experienced jeweler who finds a prize diamond; like the joy of a new bride who cherishes every moment spent with her beloved. Today the church invites us to reflect on yet another aspect of Jesus nature as we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. Though Jesus is portrayed as king, he is neither haughty nor pompous. His kingship is tied intrinsically to the humble image of the good Shepherd. Throughout salvation history, Yahweh revealed himself as the faithful shepherd of his people (Genesis 49:24; Psalm 23:1; Isaiah 40:11). He promised to find his lost sheep and heal them, to feed them with justice (Ezekiel 34:11-16). Yahweh, the Father of Israel, fulfilled his promise by sending Jesus, who conquered our hearts through love, not power. Even so, the humble Christ is rightfully called king; he defeated death, and all creation is subject to him (1 Corinthians 15:26-28). As our king, he calls us to obey his law the law of love. Based on this law, he will require an accounting from us at the end of time: Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me (Matthew 25:40). How do we fulfill this law of love? Our own standards might leave us bewildered as the goats in the parable. We must begin by humbly asking the King to reign in our hearts. For this reason, we come to the table of the Lord confessing: Lord, I am not worthy.only say the word and my soul shall be healed. As we receive Jesus love for us into our hearts, we are empowered to serve others. If we receive openly, we can give generously. Let us seek the green pastures of the Shepherd and allow him to fill our cup to overflowing. Then, at our journey s end, when Christ reigns over all creation, he will deliver us to the Father through the Spirit. He will commend us at last into the unity of the Trinity, saying: Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matthew 25:34). POINTS FOR MEDITATION: In Matthew 25, Jesus is described as coming in his glory and sitting on his royal throne. In separating the sheep from the goats, what is this King most concerned about? How often do you recognize the King of glory disguised in the hungry, the homeless, the sick, or the imprisoned? Jesus is our King, but he never commands our allegiance. Instead he waits for us to invite him to reign in our hearts. How is Jesus kingship manifested in your life? Extend a fresh invitation to Jesus to reign more fully in your heart. If we are in the service of Christ the King, then we must be ready to advance his kingdom. Do you feel compelled to share the good news of Christ with others? Ask the Lord to give you a sense of urgency about evangelizing those who don t know him. PRAYER: Jesus, I pray that when you return, you will find faith among all people. May your return find me feeding the hungry, welcoming strangers, and preaching your good news to all. Amen. (The Word Among Us-Patricia Mitchell)
