3 Music for February 18 Prelude: If You But Trust In God - arr. Kevin McChesney The original German text, Wer Nur den Lieben Gott, was composed by Georg Neumark in 1641 upon gaining employment after a two year period of severe economic difficulty. The tune was written in 1657, also by Neumark, to accompany this text. The chorale is still used today in numerous hymnals (page 816 in your pew hymnal) as well as being used in several Cantatas by J.S. Bach. Anthem: I Want Jesus to Walk With Me - arr. Brian Greer The songs of slaves in early America served a number of purposes; some, like Wade in the Water allowed slaves to carry secret messages throughout the slave community about possible escape. Some songs were designed to simply pass the time and to help the singer to remove their focus, even if for a short while, from the unbearable labor conditions and cruelty of slavery. I Want Jesus to Walk With Me is believed to have been a work song. Its slow steady pace designed to set a rhythmic pulse for monotonous work activity. The text of this song is found on page 775 in your hymnal. Offertory: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich - C.P.E. Bach The musical form Chorale Prelude is firmly planted in the Baroque tradition and was replaced by other solo forms such as the sonata in the early classical period. For this reason, this piece was, until recently, considered part of the works catalog of J.S. Bach rather than of his son, C.P.E. Bach. C.P.E. s distain for his father s old fashioned style led him to be a fundamental figure in the transition from Baroque forms to those of the Classical era. C.P.E. s organ output is very limited. This work most likely originated as a piece for Harpsichord or Clavier. Postlude: Toccata on Wild and Lone the Prophet s Voice - arr. David Bednall David Bednall is a British composer and organist. He has a PhD in Composition from the University of Bristol and was an Organ Scholar at Queens College, Oxford. His setting of the hymn tune Aberystwyth ends our first service of worship focused on Prophets of the Bible. The hymn, focused on John the Baptist, is found on page 163 in your hymnal. The first review will be held this Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. in room 211. The second review will be held immediately after the congregational meeting on Sunday, February 25. This meeting will be held in the sanctuary. Annual Congregational Meeting: There will be a Congregational Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the Corporation next Sunday, February 25 after the 9:00 a.m. service. No 11 a.m. service that day. Please remain in the Sanctuary. Reports are available in the parlor for your review before the meeting. Sacred Heart Luncheon will be on Sunday, February 25: This is our yearly trip to Trenton to serve lunch for our homeless neighbors at Sacred Heart Church. This is a great day of service for all ages. Please stop by the table in Ettenger Hall if you would like to help out. Church Flowers: Something a lot of people take for granted are the flowers that adorn our church every Sunday and at other special times of the year. The Chancel flowers that you see every Sunday are paid for directly by those who are making the memorial. But the church pays for any other flowers you may see. The church pays for the Christmas poinsettias (off set by your donations to the Flower Fund), the Easter flowers, member funeral flowers, boutonnieres for new members and confirmation class, and Baptism roses. The costs of all these come out of money in the Flower Fund. These funds are dwindling, and will need to be boosted by donations. If you would like to help by donating to the flower fund, you can write a check to NPC, making sure to put flowers in the memo line, or use your yellow Flower envelope. Our Easter and Christmas special giving goes to three ministries: food pantry, music, and flowers. All of the money, as designated, helps to defray the costs associated with these ministries, and all are important. Please consider your donation when contributing to our Easter memorial donations this year. Thank You from Outreach: On behalf of our mission partners at Broad Street Ministries and Backstretch, we want to thank the congregation from the bottom of our hearts. We have received and delivered so many wonderful much needed clothing items such as jeans, shirts, hoodies and terrific warm jackets, coats, hats, mittens, shoes, boots and more. We ve been able to love our neighbors in this warm way. The collection is never over, we will continue to deliver whatever you bring. All items are collected in the closet designated for Outreach by the TV monitor in the Reception Room across from the nursery. Thank you again!

5 Yoga: Every Wednesday from 6:30 7:30 p.m. in Ettenger Hall. All are welcome for $15; Students $10. Please bring a yoga mat, beach towel and water (exercise blocks and a strap are helpful). Proceeds benefit the ongoing restoration of the Historic Church cemetery. Contact Shelda Thorburn with any questions at The EAGLES Won Though Teamwork! So too it is with our McCaffrey's receipt program. A little support here, a little support over there, and still more support from somewhere else all adds up to a winner. Just so the McCaffrey's receipt program is a winner for our Historic Church because of you. Thank you for being a part of the team supporting our Historic Church. Greeting Card Basket: A basket holding all kinds of greeting cards for anyone to take is in Ettenger Hall. They are organized by type. Feel free to look through the cards and help yourself whenever you wish!
