2 LIFEPATH Catherine Price, Lay Minister Between Monday and Wednesday this week, the Abbey will be playing host to over 400 children and their teachers from10 primary schools across the local area. Some will be from tiny village schools, others from large Swindon schools. They will be here as part of the Lifepath initiative started by Scripture Union. Since 2003, Lifepath has been taking old Christian stories, and old Christian settings like the Abbey and building a schools event around these that would introduce pupils to the Christian story in a lively, dynamic yet appropriate way. This is Malmesbury Abbey's third year of running Lifepath! Our Lifepath will centre on our own flying monk Eilmer and be an opportunity for children to learn about the lives of the Benedictine Monks who lived and served in the Abbey, to reflect on what we can learn about God from their Lifepath and encourage the children to think about their own Lifepath. A host of volunteers from the Abbey and other churches will be taking part in various ways, and they will be commissioned at our 4pm service this Sunday, before sharing a team meal and having a briefing session. Then they will be getting the Abbey ready to host the first 146 pupils at 9:30am on Monday. Even if we are not directly involved in this event, we can support it by praying for it, individually or in our small groups. Here are some prayer pointers from the Lifepath team: That all the pupils attending will learn something more about the Christian faith For fine weather for the three days For the smooth running of the technical arrangements

3 For safety as the children move around the area For the leadership team as they oversee the whole event For the guides; that they have an opportunity to build relationships with the pupils and teachers That all workshop leaders will have good and engaging presentations for the pupils to participate in For the stewards and helpers as they ensure a safe and efficiently run event For energy and enthusiasm for those leading the all together sessions That the Jesus and Prayer journey will be particularly significant for the children and teachers. Verse 41 talks about the prophet s reward. Read I Kings 17:8-24 and 2 Kings 4:8-37. Should we interpret these stories to suggest that if we show hospitality to Christian workers we can expect material benefits? If not, what is the reward promised in verse 42? 3. Read 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 9:15 and How is Jesus described here, and how might that build on the picture portrayed in verse 40? 4.
