Mike Saint Anthony of Padua Saint Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins de Bulhoes (15 August June 1231), also known as Anthony of Lisbon, was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He was born and raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal, and died in Padua, Italy. Noted by his contemporaries for his powerful preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and undying love and devotion to the poor and the sick, he was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church on 16 January He is also the patron saint of lost things. St. Anthony was called a Miracle Worker and many miracles have been attributed to him during his life and since his death. It seems everyone, even non-catholics, know of his reputation as an intercessor in finding lost items. Many a person has invoked St. Anthony for help: Dear St. Anthony, please come around. Something s been lost and can t be found. But asking for his help is only one part of the prayer. St. Anthony was truly generous in helping the poor in his life, and his work continues in his name and intercession. He wants to help us, but in return, we should help the poor either by praying or helping with alms. St. Anthony Bread is a term used for offerings made in thanksgivng to God for blessings received through the prayers of St. Anthony. Sometimes the alms are given for the education of priests. In some places parents also make a gift for the poor after placing a newborn child under the protection of St. Anthony. It is a practice in some churches to bless small loaves of bread on the feast of St. Anthony and give them to those who want them. All are invited to Saint Therese Church this Wednesday, June 13th at 6:00 p.m. for Mass and the Blessing of Saint Anthony Bread. Let us give thanks to God for all the Saints and their intercessions for us. Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. St. Anthony of Padua Parishes Vacation Bible School 2018 Summer Bible School When: July Time: 6:00 to 8:15 PM Where: St. Joseph Church Social Hall and Grounds Gear up for a one week hike through the wilderness that lead kids to discover amazing things about Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage and Holy Orders. Volunteers are still needed to make this a memorable event for all our children. If you or someone you know would be interested, complete the volunteer registration form or contact the parish office. All adult volunteers (including youth 18 years of age or older) will need to have all clearances required by the State. We are here to help you complete these forms. While this is a ministry of the church, it is also a precious gift to the family and friends of the deceased. We invite you to join our Consolation Music Ministry if you have availability during the day (perhaps you are retired or have a flexible work schedule?) and enjoy singing as a form of prayer.
