If you are a Catholic living in this area and are not registered as a parishioner, please call the Parish Office and we will be happy to include you on our roster. Sponsors: Godparents or Confirmation Sponsors must be registered in the parish, at least 16 years old, received all Sacraments of Initiation, and if married, be in a Catholic Marriage). Non-parishioners are to obtain a Sponsor Certificate from their respective parish. Children s Faith Formation: A combined program for the Catholic Churches of Uniontown is offered. Uniontown, PA Missionary Cooperative The Benedictine Fathers of St. Vincent Archabbey will be with us this weekend, January 13-14, asking for our prayers and alms for their missions in Brazil and Taiwan along with assistance for foreign seminarians studying at St. Vincent. Please be generous and help them reach out to those they serve. Why Do We Do That? Catholic Traditions Explained QUESTION: The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is January 18 to January 25. What is it all about? ANSWER: The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity consists of eight days beginning January 18 (at one time the feast of the Chair of Peter), and ending on January 25 (the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul). Paul James Wattson, a former Episcopalian priest, founded the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, which was formally accepted into Catholic communion in the early twentieth century, in Graymoor, NY. This religious community sought to promote unity among Anglicans and Roman Catholics. The idea for Christian unity soon began to catch on, and by the 1930s, more and more Christians welcomed such a focus. Suggestions for prayer and education have been distributed each year, emphasizing a jointly chosen theme. The 1964 Vatican II document on ecumenism, Unitatis Redintegratio, gave a great boost to the octave s observance, so that today many Christians worldwide promote and participate in this special time of prayer. The emphasis on both Peter and Paul aptly fits into the rationale of the octave. Peter is seen as the source of unity within the Christian tradition. Paul is highlighted due to his vision of bringing all to Christ. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an ideal opportunity to pray for and promote respect, understanding, and, hopefully, eventual unity among Christians. To learn more, visit geii.org. Thank you for your stewardship of God s gifts and your generosity in meeting the many needs of parish life. Youth & Young Adult Envelopes Elementary and High School Youth Offertory Envelopes for 2018 are available in the back vestibule of the church. Envelope numbers have changed, so please be sure to return the enclosed form with your first contribution and include your name on the envelope of your first few offerings. Also, young adults, 18 years old/graduated from high school, are asked to contact the Parish Office in order to be transferred to adult status on the parish census and/or the envelope listing. Thank you to parents for teaching your child the practice of supporting the Church. Rest In Peace In your kindness, please pray for the repose of the souls of Dolores Dory Bryte, John Sepski, Sr., and Theresa Lucas who were buried from our parish during December. May God grant them Eternal Rest and give peace and comfort to their families. Parish Office Hours The Parish Office will be closed Mon., Jan. 15, for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. First Reconciliation The Celebration of First Reconciliation will be held next Saturday, January 20 beginning at 2:30PM at St. Mary Church. All children will join with their families for this celebration. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Faith Formation Schedule Monday Night Middle School - no class on Jan. 15. Tuesday Night K-Grade 5 formation classes will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Catholic Schools Week Catholic Schools Week is the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. Next weekend, Jan , students from St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School will speak at all Masses about Catholic Schools and Catholic Schools Week. St. John the Evangelist Regional Catholic School will also host an Open House on Sunday, January 28, Noon - 2:00PM. Faculty, Staff, and Administration will be available to answer any questions you may have. Tours will be given and Financial Aid packets will be available. For more details, please call Baptism We welcome as a child of God, Gia Labella Anderson, daughter of Jarod Anderson and Danielle Mascioli, who was baptized in our church on Saturday, December 9, May we support Gia Labella by our prayers and example as she grows in faith. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Have you ever been somewhere public and days later someone says they saw you there? You might find yourself surprised that they saw you there and didn't say hello. However, at least they saw you. You, on the other hand, didn't even have any idea they were around you. You may have been oblivious to what was going on at the time or to those crossing your path on that day. You may have been forsaking that moment thinking about another time to come down the road. Imagine being one of those who first encountered Jesus as he began his ministry. Would you have noticed? We would like to think that we would have rushed over to him to introduce ourselves. But on that day when he passed on by we just might have been caught up in life, unaware of all that was intersecting with our place in the world. An everyday steward strives to live mindfully. The more mindful we are of all that is around us, the more grateful we find ourselves because we take things less for granted and the more open we are to the call of Jesus Christ. Every day Jesus crosses our path in the form of others. They may be in need or they may have a gift to offer us. Either way, without living in the present and taking in all that God has provided for us in the day, we can miss it. 4 St. Mary (Nativity) Church Pro-Life Mass In recognition of the March for Life, Knights of Columbus Council #1275 will have a Mass offered for the Protection of the Unborn Child at St. Mary Nativity Church, Uniontown, on Friday, January 19, at 8:00AM. The Rosary will be recited after Mass, and a pro-life stand to follow at five corners. All are encouraged to participate. DCCW Sanctity of Life Prayer Event The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will host a Day of Prayer on Friday, Jan. 19, at the Bishop Connare Center. The day begins with the rosary at 11:30AM. A Mass celebrated by Msgr. Larry J. Kulick begins at noon followed by exposition at 1PM. The afternoon includes the rosary and other prayers with Benediction at 4PM. Participate in the whole day or part of it. For details, call Millie, Catholic Engaged Encounter Weekend Catholic Engaged Encounter is a weekend marriage preparation retreat within the context of Catholic faith and values. CEE offers couples planning marriage a way to discuss honestly and intensively their future lives through time alone and with other engaged couples. Uniontown, PA SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION Sacrament of Baptism for Infants: Those anticipating the birth of a child should call the Pastor several months before the anticipated birth. Baptisms are usually scheduled either within or after the 10:00AM Sunday Liturgy. Sacrament of Marriage: Couples planning to marry are to call the Pastor at least six months prior but up to one year or more ahead of their anticipated marriage to register the date and schedule an appointment with the Pastor. Sacrament of Holy Orders: Men interested in learning about the vocation to priesthood may contact the Pastor or the Diocesan Office of Clergy Vocations at Anointing of the Sick: This Sacrament is available any time by contacting the Pastor. Ministry to the Homebound: Holy Communion is taken to the homebound on a monthly basis by the Ladies of Charity. To be added to the visitation list, call the Parish Office.
