1 Lu Otto photo A Monthly Newsletter June-July 2017 Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Hot Springs Village, Arkansas phone: Summer is here! Summer s arrival is welcome. Things slow down. At least a bit. We come to the end of the Easter season with a flourish. Following Rogation Sunday, we celebrate Ascension Sunday, followed by Pentecost Sunday, leading up to Trinity Sunday, which is our special feast day, an opportunity to thank our choir for their dedication throughout the year, and to gather at the Balboa Pavilion for our parish picnic in the afternoon. This year, Trinity Sunday falls on June 11. I hope you will all be there for the picnic. It is one of the best opportunities we have as a parish with three worship services to gather in one place, at one time, and get to know one another better. If it is one thing I hear repeatedly about Holy Trinity, it is how genuine and friendly people are in this church. I agree. I so appreciate people who make a point of greeting visitors and talking with them at coffee hour after the service. You are the reason they come back. In May, we held our Vestry Workshop and Goal Planning Day with Fr. Dennis Campbell here at Holy Trinity. I believe he helped set us on a course for the next year with new goals, which are addressed in the article by Senior Warden Nancy Holst. My thanks to Nancy for all the preparatory work she did to make things run so smoothly for the workshop. The goals we set for ourselves are meant to help us continue to foster community that is healthy, mutually supportive, and listening for where the Lord is leading us. I also thank those who have agreed to be part of some new efforts around Holy Trinity. The Vestry created a new Grounds Care Team, made up of Arlene Hodgson, Patty Bridges, and LaVonne Speak. The team oversees the care and maintenance of the gardens and grounds around the church, and are doing a great job. Also, thanks to Jessica Dunn, who has organized a pilot recycling effort for the church office and kitchen facilities. If you are working in the office, kitchen or parish hall and have leftover items to dispose of, please make the effort to put them into the appropriate drawers of the recycle bin in the kitchen, or the bin located behind the drapes, near the choir room. Items include plastic, aluminum and steel cans, corrugated cardboard, paper and glass. Finally, I hope you all have a blessed summer. Enjoy the weather. Play golf, tennis, and pickle ball. Go boating and fishing, and enjoy your travels. But be sure to attend church wherever you are, and join us here at Holy Trinity whenever you are in the Village. Peace, Fr. Neil +
2 Page 2 The Village Episcopalian JUNE-JULY 2017 From the Senior Warden: Keeping You Up to Date Our Vestry workshop on May 9, 2017 went extremely well. The Rev. Dennis Campbell led us in open discussions on the course of action needed to take Holy Trinity into the future. We are grateful for his expertise in guiding us and getting all of us to participate in a meaningful workshop. The following 5 items will be action items over the next year: 1. We all agreed that it is important to support Fr. Neil in finding suitable opportunities for continuing education and to help him stay motivated and up to date in his ministry. 2. We are planning to review Holy Trinity s worship and events calendar to consider offering additional worship opportunities, special music, and events. In the past, these have been well attended and enjoyed by all as community builders. 3. We also decided to move forward in seeking financial support for a Carillon system. 4. We will be studying our process for incorporating newcomers to see how we might refine our current plan/process. 5. We will work with our Outreach Committee to explore needs in the community that are not currently being met. Holy Trinity has completed the on-line registration on the Smart 911 system. When an emergency arises at church be sure to use the phone in the kitchen to call 911, because it will automatically show the location of the church to the Police Dispatcher. I strongly encourage everyone to go on-line at and register all your personal phones. It is very easy to do. Our annual Trinity Sunday Picnic is scheduled for June 11, 2017 at 5 p.m. at the Balboa Pavilion. The cost is $10 per person. The menu will be barbequed chicken, pork and sausage, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad. Cake will be provided as dessert. Be sure to bring your favorite beverage or cocktail for the social hour before dinner. Please sign up on the sheet posted on the bulletin board and pay ahead of time in the envelope provided with the signup sheet. I want to wish you all safe travels as we enter into the summer months. Many of you will be traveling to visit with friends and families, and we will miss you. We will also miss the choir during the months ahead and Episcopal Church Women (ECW) will also be taking the summer months off. Have a great and wonderful summer and look forward to all our activities in the fall. God bless, Nancy Holst
