2 Dear Sisters and Brothers, Is the wind of the Spirit at your back? On the church s first Pentecost the Spirit blew into the room where the disciples gathered. With this wind at their backs, they went out into the world sharing the incredible news that Jesus had risen and was offering new life. The church remained facing towards the world, with the Spirit s wind at its back. The wind of the Spirit would send them throughout the Roman Empire and beyond. Where is the Spirit s wind blowing in your life? If we resist the urging of the Spirit, we resist the direction and the energy God is giving us. The Spirit has places for each of us to go and places for our church to go. With the Spirit s wind at our backs, God will send us to amazing places to do miraculous works. Let s turn our attention to the world, where God continues to send the church and follow the Spirit s push. Let s live with the Spirit s wind at our backs! Grace and Peace, Pastor David Luncheon May 20th A congregational luncheon hosted by our shepherds will be May 20 th after church. Our wonderfully delicious menu to be announced! The Shepherding Committee will meet after the church service on May 6 th in the conference room off fellowship hall to plan for our next congregation Luncheon. 3 May Worship May 6 Sixth Sunday of Easter Communion Served 1 John 5:1-6 Acts 10:44-48 Surprised by the Spirit May 13 Ascension of the Lord Observed Psalm 93 Ephesians 1:15-23 Over All Things May 20 Pentecost Music Recognition Romans 8:22-27 Acts 2:1-21 With the Help of the Spirit May 27 - Trinity Sunday Recognition of High School Graduates Isaiah 6:1-8 Romans 8:12-17 Our Forever Home Pentecost Offering Received on May 20 A gift to the Pentecost Offering helps the church encourage, develop, and support its young people, and address the needs of at-risk children. 40% of the Pentecost offering will be retained by First Pres for local needs. The remaining 60% is used to support ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency: Young Adult Ministries, Ministries for Youth, Children-at-Risk. Please use the special envelopes you will find in the bulletin that Sunday. Please shut the door! It is ironic that after our successful effort to create new and open doors into our facility, we must now remind ourselves to properly shut the doors when leaving the building. When you exit on 4 th Street, Wooster or to the parking lot, please insure the door shuts behind you. Closed doors, no matter the time of day, insure we maintain adequate seals against the weather. After hours, fully closing the door will insure it locks behind you. There have been some recent cases where the church was not secure because doors weren t closed completely. This can endanger staff, guests and our members. Music Ensemble Updates: Save the Date! May 20th is Music Appreciation Sunday. In addition; PresbyPraise, Glorify and Chancel Choir will be singing! Rehearsal update: Joyful Hearts and Chancel Choir rehearsals, starting Wednesday, April 25th, will be starting 6 and 6:30 respectively. Final Rehearsals: Both Joyful Hearts and Chancel Choir s last rehearsal will be Wednesday, May 16th. Final rehearsal date for PresbyPraise and Glorify is May 20th before worship to rehearse the mass choral number.

4 Session Summary for April, 10, 2018 Motions presented and approved by session: 1. To endorse Justin Warner to the presbytery as an inquirer to the ministry. 2. To approve a request from B&A for $3400 to Greenleaf Landscaping for the annual clean up of the Memorial Garden and adjacent areas and to remove and install certain shrubs done at the church s request. Funds to be drawn from the Greenspace Maintenance Endowment. Next session meeting: June 12, 2018 Proceeds will benefit : Washington County Career Center purchase toolkits for auto mechanics, carpentry, diesel truck, electrical, masonry or welding Caldwell Presbyterian Church funds to help with installation of a new handicap access lift Rummage date is TBD (July or August). We will be accepting donations of all sorts of items soon. Please note NO adult clothing or shoes! Tools, household items, children s clothing, etc. are all welcome. Begin gathering items and watch for the date when we will be accepting donations. Also, we will have a bake sale! Questions? Please speak to Suzan Warner or Susan Barengo. SHARING OUR LEGACY As we approach mid-year it is worthwhile to remember the many contributions the Endowment Funds have made to our church. The College Scholars program covered by the Noe Organ Fund has been a plus for the church choir; in addition it covers our Resident Organist which provides a strong musical foundation for church programs. In addition with summer on the way, we need to take care of our new church garden which is covered by the Greenspace Maintenance Fund. We have recently started the Unrestricted Fund through donations which hopefully can be expanded. This will provide income to handle requests which are outside the specific dedicated basis of our present Endowments. Thank you to the people who have given bequests to support the many activities of our church. For further information contact John Miller, Committee Chair of Endowments and Special Funds or contact any of the committee members including Jennylou Brock, Matt Evans, Susie Evans, Hank Goehring, Richard Murdock, Allan Norris and Gail Reynolds.

5 **We are seeking two new volunteers for the Shepherding Committee.** I m sad to share we are losing two of our shepherds: Nancy Murdock and Kathy Buckley. Thank you to both of you for your caring work and dedication! You will be missed! Lynn Nelson A shepherd s work involves: 1. sending cards for birthdays, illness, funerals and other major life events to people in your flock (flocks are geographic areas where members live). 2. preparing the food for and serving three Luncheons a year. 3. delivering meals if requested when a member of the flock is in need of meals after an illness 4. assisting the deacons when a member of the church is in need of a ride to a doctor s appointment or a visit. Our general mission is to help extend loving care to our church members in need. If this sounds like something God is calling you to do, please contact Lynn Nelson at or lynn.nelson@cwscopiers.com. Please Join Us for Our Annual Valley Gem Service on the River Sunday, September 30, 2018 (Please note the new date.) Boarding beings at 8:30am. Departure promptly at 9:00am and return at 11:00am. Please bring a breakfast dish or item to share. Coffee, milk and orange juice will be provided. We will also have activities for the children. If you don t like the annual boat outing, watch for a survey in the bulletin about interest in a regular worship service that morning.
