It looks so beautiful up there, surrounded by Christmas cards, our Advent wreath ablaze now with all four candles glowing. It s not a suggestion anymore, I don t think. BELIEVE is a mandate, an absolute demand of our whole self. To BELIEVE puts us right there with Mary herself, who BELIEVED that the promise of the Lord would be fulfilled. On the First Sunday of Advent we all resolved to pray for an unknown reader of this column, recognizing that another unknown reader was praying for us. If you happened to miss that week s reflection, it s not too late. Right now, imagine someone out there who is reading this. That person needs your prayers. That person may have been praying for you these past Advent weeks. BELIEVE that your prayers for an unknown reader are reaching heaven this very minute. But getting back to Mary, her immediate departure from Nazareth to walk ninety miles to Elizabeth s home is just fascinating. She must have been very close to her cousin. Don t you get the feeling that she was as thrilled to hear of her aging cousin s pregnancy as she was amazed to announce her own? I wonder if she rehearsed how she was going to explain to her cousin this most astonishing (and history-changing) news. Was she nervous when she walked into the house? Any apprehension she might have had flew out the window the second she arrived, because the pre-born John recognized the pre-born Jesus and leaped for joy. Oh, and by the way, we don t ever have to ask again when life begins. In what ways do you feel the prayers of the unseen reader who is praying for you? Kathy McGovern Gregorian Chant Appreciation Group The purpose would be to learn, admire, and participate in one of the great musical traditions of the Catholic Church. Each meeting would consist of looking at and singing a small selection of chant while engaging with what makes chant different from other musical forms. Snacks and drinks would follow which I will supply. The estimated time would be minutes a meeting. Meetings would be held at 7:00pm on the last Wednesday of every month at 62 Old County Lane, Edwards. BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASS Saturday, Dec. 8th Our baptismal classes are held on the second Saturday of the month at 9:00am At Church, Eagle. Preregistration is required to attend Baptismal class. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Eagle Mondays at 's from 5:30 to 6:30 pm This is a powerful prayer opportunity and when a priest is with us, we also have Benediction or a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament, and Confession is available. Come and stay as long as you can. Men gather on the second Saturday of each month after the 7:00 p.m. Mass. Women meet on the third Saturday of each month, after the Mass of 7:00 p.m. Saint Clare's School Chapel Noon-3 on Wednesdays during the school year. Baptism: Parents and Godparents are required to attend a baptismal preparation class. Classes are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 9:00am at Church. We light the last candle on our Advent wreath and our preparation for Christmas is almost finished. We also near the culmination of the O Antiphons. In previous antiphons our cry was directed to the Messiah as He manifested Himself to the Chosen People, to the Gentiles, and in nature; now He is addressed in person and asked to remain with us as Emmanuel. Reading this final antiphon gives the feeling that a climax has indeed come. The very term Emmanuel, God with us, reveals the kindly, human heart of Jesus He wants to be one of us, a Child of man, with all our human weakness and suffering; He wants to experience how hard it is to be man. He wants to remain with us to the end of time, He wants to dwell within us, He wants to make us share His nature. 7 St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School BELIEVE IN A HIGHER STANDARD Accredited by North Central Association Celebrating 17 years of Catholic Education in the Eagle Valley Find out more at and Thank Goodness it's Pink Friday Students supported one of their teachers recently diagnosed with cancer through Thank Goodness it's Pink Friday. The sixth grade class organized a free-dress-in-pink day, a pink bake sale, and a short assembly to communicate our prayers and support for our beloved teacher. Advent at St. Clare Kindergarteners made gingerbread houses as they prepare for Christmas. Each Monday during Advent students gather in the lobby for the lighting of the Advent wreath and a time of prayer. Each year on December 6 St. Nicholas visits the St. Clare students on his feast day. Fr. Jose Maria visits each classroom to tell the story of St. Nick, bishop of Myra. Students have their shoes in the hallway during his visit, and when they get their shoes they find them filled with candy.
