We will have a Vigil Mass on Wednesday evening at 6:00PM, and Masses Thursday will be held at 8:00AM and 12:00 Noon. Please Note: There will be NO morning Mass on Wednesday, May 28th. Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is in need of Volunteers. The Spiritual Care Department needs a few volunteers to minister to patients two to four hours a week offering, Holy Eucharist, prayer and visitation. Please call Father C.J. Paul was newly ordained to the priesthood on May 17th Sponsor/Eligibility Slip For Your Information When asked to be a sponsor for baptism or confirmation you will need an eligibility slip from your parish. To receive an eligibility slip you must be an active parishioner in that parish for at least six months. An active parishioner means that the Pastor sees you attend Mass regularly and you are a Catholic in good standing. Eligibility slips can not be given if you do not attend Mass regularly. NEEDED CANTORS Would you like to share your time and talent with Sacred Heart Parish? We are in need of cantors. If you feel you would like to give to this important ministry we would love to have you! See Fr. Mike before or after mass. First Friday Communion Calls Father Mike visits the homebound each First Friday of the month. Because of privacy laws remember he can only make a visit if requested by the individual or a family member. Please notify the rectory if you are homebound and would like Father Mike to visit. Thank you! Offertory Gifts If Mass is being celebrated for your family member or friend please remember that your family may bring the three offertory gifts to the altar. When you enter church that day or evening just tell one of the ushers that you would like to bring the gifts to the altar. If they are not told the usual procedure is for them to pick someone from the congregation. Bread and Wine for the Week If you would like to offer the bread and wine for the week in someone s memory, you may do so by calling the Rectory at Holy Hour ~ Watch One Hour With Me Spend some time with God at Sacred Heart s Holy Hour. A holy hour means listening to God. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed every Friday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL PARTNERS WITH THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES FOR SECOND ANNUAL CATHOLIC CHARITIES NIGHT AT CITIZENS BANK PARK After a successful turnout last season, the Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) will partner once again with the Philadelphia Phillies for "Catholic Charities Night". REFLECTION As she grows familiar with the Siamese king s brood of children, Anna, the hired teacher in the Broadway musical The King and I sings: Getting to Know You. A key lyric is As a teacher I ve been learning By your pupils you ll be taught. As a veteran teacher, I could not agree more. It is part of the unexpected satisfaction of the calling that all true teachers experience. However, the case with Jesus the Master Teacher is the grand exception. Yes, in His human nature He did grow in knowledge as we all do. But in His divine nature, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity is omniscient, with no need of learning. What Thomas and Philip manage to do, through their questions put to Jesus, is draw out from Our Lord two ways to get to know Him. First up is Thomas, too often labeled the Doubter because of his reaction to the initial resurrection report. Quite frankly, he speaks for all of us when he asks Jesus: How can we know the way? I can picture Jesus, pointing to Himself with an understanding hint of a smile on His handsome face, saying: I am the Way, and the Truth and the Life. The scholar Pheme Perkins rightly concludes: Jesus is not just a guide to salvation. He is the source of life and truth. Then we hear from Philip, whose request of Jesus to show us the Father rather late since he first met Jesus. Our Lord mentions this, and with a bit of frustration in His voice, says: Philip, after all this time and you do not know Me? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. In our reflection on this scene, there are two unexpressed truths that emerge. They balance out like two items on a scale. On one end we have Seeing is believing. On the other, Believing is seeing. Our task as believers is to go out into the world of our experience and be teachers of both truths with one caution: Faith is really the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see.
