3 ALL SOULS / Remembrance Mass Dia de los Muertos Remembering the lives of those family and friends who have gone before us. We especially remember those who have died this year. Liturgy of the Eucharist Stand as the priest says Pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours and remain standing to respond, May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands Kneel for the Eucharistic prayer. If when unable to kneel, standing is also reverent, if you cannot stand nor kneel you may sit. We stand for the Lord s prayer. You may fold your hands in prayer, the Roman Missal does not give direction on hand holding. In our diocese, the Bishop has asked Deacons to hold hands in orans like the priest. Notice the servers, fold their hands in prayer. Remain standing to exchange the sign of peace. The sign of peace is a handshake, or a bow of head towards only those nearest you while saying Peace be with you. Other signs are not necessary. The sign of peace is a witness to the Christian belief that true peace is a gift of Christ's death and resurrection and this gesture is not a greeting. The priest nor deacon leave the sanctuary during the sign of peace, therefore, it is not necessary for us to leave our pews. By the ritual gestures, we unite physically, mentally, and spiritually in our worship of the Lord. In part Adoremus. Coffee With The Saints All women of our Parish Community are invited for prayer and fellowship at our next Coffee with the Saints monthly gathering. Please join us on Sat., Oct., 27th, from 8:30 am 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. We will also begin collecting items for the Homeless: New socks, New or gently used jackets and blankets. Mission San Jose Presents Little Fingerprints of God Mini retreat For children ages 5-14 On Saturday January 12 th, At Mission San Jose Parish Hall From: 9:00am to 6:00 p.m. Fee: $ Our parish will be having a one-day retreat for children in our parish and our community. Registration is open until December 15 th, 2018 and only 50 spaces will be available. It is on a first come first basis. Any adult who would like to receive sacraments, including baptism, please attend this inquiry session. CCD-Classes have begun. Starting with 9am Mass followed by class instructions. Thank you. Our goal is to serve Jesus disguised as sick & hurting folks and to help change their current situation for the better. Archbishop Appeal 2018 Our goal is $12, we have collected $11, Archbishop appeal 2018 We have almost reached our goal, needing $ We thank the 76 families who have helped us get to this point. The appeal helps children and youth programs, St PJ children s home, pregnancy services, seminarians, catholic tv and radio, hospital pastoral services and much more. WHO WE SEE: Those who do not have medical insurance and those who cannot afford to be seen even on the modest sliding fee scale of community health centers. WHAT WE DO: Basic medical exam (i.e. sick visits, check-ups, school/sports physicals) Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment Blood glucose screening Pregnancy testing Vital signs Medication counseling Limited diet / exercise education Limited over-the-counter & prescription medications on hand WHEN: Sunday Nov.4th at 12:30pm- 2pm (Parish Center) La Historia de Mission San Jose How were surveys conducted over 300 years ago, far removed from 21 st century technology? In the 1700 s, there were 3 methods in use: 1) the description of a tract of land by reference to landmarks alone; no exact measurments, only an estimate of the area. 2) a surveyor s chain 3) a circumference, a combination magnetic compass and sighting device along with a surveyor s chain. Methods 1 and 2 were most commonly used. It was very rare for anyone on the Texas frontier to posses a magnetic compass before the 1770 s. When Fray Morfi visited Mission San Juan in 1778, he gave one as a gift to the missionary there. The property de scriptions (based on surveys) for the present sites of Mission San Antonio de Valero and San Juan y San Miguel de Aguayo, have not been found.
