2 Dear Brothers and Sisters, It has been said that pride is the root vice that is the foundation for all of our other bad habits. In order to fight against the vice of pride, we ought to daily cultivate the virtue of humility. Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta shares with us her 15 Rules to cultivating the virtue of humility. 1. Speak as little as possible about yourself. 2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others. 3. Avoid curiosity (she is referring to wanting to know things that should not concern you.) 4. Do not interfere in the affairs of others. 5. Accept small irritations with good humor. 6. Do not dwell on the faults of others. 7. Accept censures even if unmerited. 8. Give in to the will of others. 9. Accept insults and injuries. 10. Accept contempt, being forgotten and disregarded. 11. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone. 12. Do not seek to be admired and loved. 13. Do not protect yourself behind your own dignity. 14. Give in, in discussions, even when you are right. 15. Choose always the more difficult task. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to fill us with His graces so that we may persevere in cultivating the virtue of humility in our walk toward eternity. We ask you to consider helping one needy family by providing a FOOD BASKET for Christmas. Parish organizations and families are encouraged to participate in the program. Contact any of the members of the Committee listed below to donate a basket this year. Thanksgiving Day Collection The collection taken on Thursday, November 22 (Thanksgiving Day) at 8:00 am mass will go to the Community Responsibility Committee to assist with the Adopt - a- family Christmas food baskets. Advent is the season when Christians make spiritual preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ at Christmas. Celebrating with an Advent wreath is a popular custom in many Advent wreath & Christian traditions. We candle set will be selling Advent $20 supplies at all Masses November and November They will also be available in the Parish Office. Candle Set only $10 Thanksgiving Week Schedule: Thanksgiving Day Mass will be at 8:00 AM with a blessing of food. Please bring your bread, pies, cakes, wines, or anything properly covered to mass to receive a blessing. The Parish Office will close at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 21 and will remain closed until Monday, November 26. There in NO Mass or Communion Service on Friday, November 23. Advent Taize Prayer Service Prayer Around the Crib Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Friday, November 30, :00-7:00 PM in the Church Holy Rosary invites you to join us in an evening of Contemplative Prayer in the style of Taize'. The services start promptly at 6:00PM. This is a simple and meditative Taize' worship which promotes serenity in all who take part in it. The prayer consists of music, scripture readings, and reflection. The candlelight service, beginning and ending in silence, fosters the participation of all present by focusing and deepening faith through the power of prayer. The service is free and all are welcome. Ascension offers a new program specifically written to help Catholics prepare for Jesus birth as Mary did. It guides you through Mary s experiences and encounters and sheds light on how they relate to our preparation for Christmas. This program is called Rejoice! Advent Meditations with Mary, from Fr. Mark Toups. It pairs thought-provoking and meaningful meditations with beautiful artwork and encouraging, inspirational videos. This year, we have the opportunity to share these engaging Marian Advent reflections in video and journal form through Ascension s Rejoice! program. We will be holding an Rejoice Advent Mission Night on Nov. 27th at 6:30 pm in church. It s an opportunity to draw more intentionally into the season of Advent and to obtain the grace associated with Advent devotion. Rejoice! Advent Meditations with Mary, prayer guides will be given out free of charge at the Mission Night and the weekend of December 1 st and 2 nd, while supplies last. They kept the tables and chairs clean while greeting and talking to all parishioners. They enjoyed laughter and a good time throughout all four days. PARISH BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE The Parish Book of Remembrance is in the entrance of Church. In this book, parishioners are invited to write the names of all the dead for whom they would like to have remembered at all of the liturgies during the month of November. Simply write the name of the person who has died and they will be held in memory by our worshipping community. Catholics have long had the tradition of praying for the dead and you are encouraged to be a part of that tradition.
